Dras-Leona/Helgrind
A ramshackle city surrounded by a pale yellow wall. Its inhabitants pray toward Helgrind, a near-vertical mountain of bare rock with spires and columns that stick out.
Brom's grave lies in the hills south of Helgrind.

Hadarac Desert
Was once part of the Empire while the Dragon Riders were at their height, but it has been lost to King Galbatorix. It takes up most of central Alagaësia, and is inhabited by nomad tribes who are consantly warring over territory and resources. To journey across on foot or horseback is dangerous, as there is no food or water to be found.

Farthen Dûr
The hollow mountain that serves as the stronghold for the Varden and a home for Dwarves. The Star Sapphire glitters brightly, suspended high in the air within the mountain.

Ellesméra
The capital city of the Elves. The palace and other buildings are in the trees, rather than made of them. Eragon trained in magic and swordfighting here. Also the site of the Agaetí Blödhren, the Blood-Oath Celebration, commemorating the link between Riders and Dragons.

The Forest
The majority of northern Alagaësia is forest, with just a few Elf cities hidden in its immense depths. It can take days to travel on foot, and those who do not know the paths can find themselves hopelessly lost in a matter of minutes.

The Burning Plains
The location of the Battle of the Burning Plains, the first battle between Galbatorix's forces and the Varden, who were aided by the people of Surda. Murtagh and Eragon had their first battle as Dragon Riders here, and it was here that Roran killed the Twins.
