LAS VEGAS, NEVADA.

To hundreds of thousands of people, this city is a prime tourist spot -- a sparkling, shining distraction.

To many, it is a home, a place to work and play, raise children and live out the rest of their lives.

To others, it is a territory that must be worked.

For some, it is their cradle. For many, their grave.

But for the Mancini and D'Ambrosio families, it is a battleground for a war they are unwilling to lose.

Both families settled here in the 50s, when the gambling trade was still young, using the typical mob methods of gaining leverage in a town like Vegas - extortion, illegal gambling, kidnapping, frauds, counterfeiting, infiltration of legitimate businesses, murders, and even tried their hands at political corruption.

The law could not touch them. Every chance they had, the families slipped through their fingers. Whether it was corrupt judges, tainted evidence, crooked cops, paid off prosecutors, black-mailed juries... Something was always there to keep the families from falling.

Now, 50 years later, they are in the midst of their second generation. Both original dons are dead, and their sons have taken over. For the Mancinis, it was Durante, the oldest over twins Vinicio and Vincente, and Saverio. For the D'Ambrosios, it was Achelio, who was later murdered by his brothers Aurelio, Alessio, and Aemilio, to be succeeded by the second eldest, Aurelio. Both these men and their brothers are raising families of their own, hiring in their own soldiers and associates, as well as building on those of their fathers, securing a Las Vegas Cosa Nostra for the next generation as well.

Both families now do legitimate business in addition to their mafia endeavours. The Mancinis own the Tuscany and Olympic Gardens Strip Club. They also have their hands in loansharking, as well as several restaurants and bars, pawn shops, liquor stores, and other legitimate businesses, using their soldiers to collect the "protection fee" from the owners they parasitize. They are also skilled in kidnapping, walking away with ransom money from desperate parents and loved ones.

The D'Ambrosios specialize more in fraud and counterfeiting, as well as strategic abduction and murder. They also own two Casinos, the pyramid-shaped Luxor and the Bellagio, which makes high-stakes illegal gambling an easy trade to slip into.

The turf wars that rise between these two powerful families are devastating. When one family makes a move into the other's territory, they are swiftly beaten back. Gunfire, bomb threats and sabbotage rain down from both parties, and while territories may shift, while lives may be lost and broken, neither side gains any ground.

Everyone in the city is affected by these families and their wars, whether they know it or not.
