THE LEAST YOU NEED TO KNOW
CARPE OMNIS is rated R for the following reasons:

VIOLENCE/GORE -- If a mafiosi feels the need to crack someone's skull open with a shovel, push someone off the balcony of a high-rise, or shoot up a whole crowd of people, well, let 'im at it!

LANGUAGE -- Profanity may abound. Jun abuses the no-holds-barred profanity policy.

SEXUAL SITUATIONS -- We encourage members to vy on the side of tastefulness, and we do not allow graphic depictions, but sex is a part of life, kiddos.

DRUG/ALCHOHOL CONTENT -- From narcotics trafficking to just plain old alcoholism, the citizens of Vegas get their fill.

We are a literate site aimed at players who consider themselves of intermediate to advanced skills. We won’t set a word count because I consider them silly, but be sure to put some effort and thought into your posts, and try to post roughly to what the person you're RPing with is posting. One-liners are not appreciated. Also, we are not a journal game. All posts should be in past-tense, third person format.

But all in all, we're just here to have fun. :]


BASICS
SIGNING UP: Please sign up as your character’s first and last name with proper capitalization. No underscores, please!

APPLICATIONS: We have a slightly different system here at CARPE OMNIS, which I fully credit to December, Esq, from RPG-D. Instead of requiring painfully long apps at the beginning, when you really don't know the character, we have a short application to get a feel for what you're thinking for the character as well as a feel for your writing level. That app can be found >here<. Then, as you play, we have you fill out a longer character biography so that people who are curious can get a good feel for your character. That profile template can be found >here<.

ACTIVITY: Regarding activity, we aren’t going to be particularly stringent. You are by no means required to post every character every day, but please make an attempt to be timely. We understand that sometimes posts get neglected because of RL obligations, and that’s perfectly acceptable – we do recommend that you remind us in the absences board why you’re going to be a bit delayed.

We’re not completely forgiving, though. If you go missing for a period of three weeks with no explanation or posts in between, your characters are eligible for the chopping block, and your accounts will likely face deletion. Again, use the absences and activity board to your advantage!

CHARACTER LIMITS: As far as character limits go, you are allowed up to have two ‘free’ characters. You may start on a third character after you have 25 in-character posts (The only areas that apply to post counts are in-character boards and the Extras section. None of the OOC areas add to your post count). After your third character, you may request for additional characters, and the admins will consider your case based off quality and posts-per-day.

Keep your male/female, mobster/civilian ratios fairly even, please!

OOC/C-BOX: Just remember to be courteous, please! No dramaz (Save it for the plot board ;3) ! No spammage! :] Also, chat speak is discouraged. We’re all writers here.


GRAPHICS:
AVATARS: Avatars should be 100x100 pixels.

SIGNATURES: Images should not exceed 500 pixels in width. Height isn't as much an issue, but additional text should be minimal. Keep images tasteful. No nudity please.


POSTING
TAGS: The use of tags in topic descriptions is encouraged. Don't worry, they're simple – seasoned players probably already know them. If you're leaving it open, simply put "open" in the description. If you're tagging a person but want to leave it open for others to join as well, do something like, "Open, tag: Jayne Doe." If you're tagging one or more persons but want to keep it closed to only those people, something like "Tag: Jayne Doe" or "Tag: Jayne Doe, Jon Smith, & Chuck Norris" will suffice. :3 Also: RESPECT THE TAGS!

SEX: Though we realize this may be an unpopular rule, unlike most real life RPGs hosted on InvisionFree, here at CO we do not allow graphic sexual material on our boards. It is against the host rules and we want to adhere to and respect that, so we will not be allowing anything but foreplay with an appropriate fade/fast forward/tame description to follow. To reiterate, have all the foreplay you want, but take the sexin's somewhere else.

FORMATTING: Formatting alignment, fonts and colours is allowed. Please be aware, however, that using neon colors like lime green and yellow are hard on the eyes; similarly, really light blue or really light pink are also hard to read. Use colours and fonts that are easy to read.


CHARACTER TYPES, CANONS, & CELEBRITIES:
CHARACTER TYPES: Current available character types are as follows:

MAFIA FAMILY – There are two mafia families to choose from: The Mancini Family and the D’Ambrosio Family. These characters are fixed and are canon only characters. There will be no original characters who are suddenly Aurelio’s sister’s husband’s brother’s neice, etc. Just not happening.
MAFIOSI – Where would a mob family be without the members that make up the foundations of their gangs? These characters include Soldiers and Associates. Most of these characters are canon only, but if you have an exemplary original who fits the bill, the administration may incorporate them into the ‘family.’
LAW ENFORCEMENT - The Las Vegas Police Department. Ranging from police captains, patrol officers, detectives, CSIs and lab techs, they are on the front lines against the mobsters and criminals.
CITIZENS – This gives people the most open ranged, they fill in the veins and give the City life. Citizens often are caught in the crossfire of the feuding families, and a select few are even recruited into the life of crime.
CRIMINALS – The low lives of Las Vegas. Ranging from drug dealers to car thieves to arms distributors, they flesh out the darker realms and give life to the city’s nickname.

CANONS: We currently have a lot of canons, ranging from high school students to mafia bosses. One thing we wanted to do with CARPE OMNIS was provide a little something for everyone, even within our ‘mafia game’ premise. :] Canons are on a first come, first serve basis, so if you see one you’d like to play, snatch it up! Please remember to keep your character ratios (male/female, mobster/civilian) as balanced as possible.

PLAY-BYS: Also a first come, first serve basis. However, canon PBs take priority over original characters, and are already listed in our face claim section as being taken.


CHARACTER RULES
NO MARY SUES/GARY STUS OR SELF INSERT CHARACTERS: I shouldn’t need to explain this one, but if you need a definition, PM June and she’ll enlighten you.

THE SUPERNATURAL: No vampires, no demons, no zombies, no wizards or witches. No one named Edward Cullen. You get the drift. All of this should be self-explanatory. If you want to play one of those characters, then join another site.

HOMOSEXUAL CHARACTERS: I'm putting a heavily-enforced cap on the number of homosexual characters on this site. Basically, it will be roughly 1 homosexual character to every 10 straight characters of the same sex. Currently: NOT ACCEPTING.


IN-GAME GUIDELINES
DEATHS AND SUICIDES: No deaths or suicides without first consulting the admin. That includes killing other characters besides your own. You must first consult the person who owns the character, then the admin. All canon deaths must be approved by the administration.

ROMANCES: All we ask is that you be reasonable about it. No Mancini x d'Ambrosio relationships or the like unless it's plot based and admin approved. Also, try to steer clear of love-at-first-sight types of relationships even though it can be tempting. That's just not how we want our game to be played out, and we're not afraid to be mean about it.

IN-CHARACTER FIGHTING: Any Mafia Members may fight an opposing family in their own time. I do not mind fights at all. They happen often and there is nothing you can do about it. But, keep in mind that if fighting in a public place, law enforcement may intervene (Even in a closed thread! (Admins will PM players if their fighting gets to the point where it attracts the attention of law enforcement. ;] )). Fight at your character's own risk. NO GODMODING OR POWERPLAYING.

Rules always make us admins sound like total control freaks and we’re really not!
