UPDATE: Scent Dog To Search For Missing Valencia High Student
Written by Jon Dell
Friday, October 30 2009

18 year-old girl hasn't been seen since getting off a bus far from home.
The family of a missing18 year-old girl is hoping someone might know her location.

Brigett Kennemore, a Valencia High School student, was last heard from after school on Monday October 26th. Family members say that she may have experienced a break up with her boyfriend during a trip on a public bus, and she was seen getting off the bus at Cambridge Avenue and Hasley Canyon Road in Castaic. Kennemore's home is in Newhall.

Since then, she has not returned home and her family does not know her whereabouts.

Kennemore is an adult; however her family says that she has a disability which could prevent her from operating in a normal manner while independent.

Update: Brigett's family has notified KHTS that a volunteer scent dog will be canvassing the area where Brigett was last seen.

If you have any information as to the whereabouts of Brigett Kennemore, please contact Los Angeles County Sheriff's Detective Abraham at (323) 890-5500.

Decomposed body of a woman found in Castaic area
November 9, 2009 | 5:34 pm

A decomposed body was found today in the Castaic area near Interstate 5, and investigators are trying to determine whether it is that of a Newhall woman who has been missing for two weeks, authorities said.

The woman, believed to be white and about 18 years old, was found shortly after 1 p.m. behind a strip mall being built by where the 5 and 126 freeways connect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Brigett Kennemore, 18, a Valencia High School student, was last seen in the area Oct. 26 after she got off a bus.

But a department spokeswoman said investigators have not yet identified the body. "It may or may not be her," said Deputy Lilian Peck. "It could be somebody else."

Santa Clarita (myFOXla.com) - A badly decomposed body was found today behind an under-construction strip mall in Santa Clarita, and detectives believed the remains were those of a missing 18-year-old Newhall woman who may have committed suicide.

The discovery of the body near the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway at the ramp to Henry Mayo Drive was reported at 1:11 p.m., said Deputy Lillian Peck.

A law enforcement official said "it is possible" the body may be Brigett Kennemore, who was reported missing Oct. 26.

Peck said an identification had not been made.

Kennemore was last seen at 4:20 p.m. Oct. 26 walking eastbound on Hasley Canyon Road, according to deputies at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station.

The missing woman, who suffers from a developmental disability, had just gotten off a Santa Clarita Transit bus just east of Cambridge Avenue, deputies said. She lives on The Old Road in Newhall.

Peck said homicide investigators believe the body may be Kennemore's and the cause of death is a suicide.

The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner will make the final determination of the woman's body and what caused her death.

Sheriff's detectives were investigating whether the decomposing body of young woman found just off an Interstate 5 onramp on Monday belongs to a Valencia High School student who went missing two weeks ago, officials said.

Detectives spent hours Monday examining the site where a young woman's body was discovered just after 1 p.m. off a transition road from eastbound Highway 126 to Interstate 5.

Authorities said the body matches the description to Brigett Andrea Kennemore, an 18-year-old developmentally disabled Newhall resident who has been missing since Oct. 26. She was last seen getting off of a bus in Castaic.

"There's a possibility it could be the missing person," said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Daniel Rosenberg. "However, we have not made a positive identification."

"The homicide investigators were gathering evidence and working with the coroner's investigators attempting to identify who this young lady is, along with the circumstances surrounding the death."

Rosenberg said the death did not appear to be violent in nature.

Kennemore's aunt, who had legal guardianship over Kennemore until she became an adult in mid-October, said the family is worried about the possible link.

"We're just all right now in a state of shock," said Debra Love. "Hopefully, it's not her."

A gardener found the body in bushes Monday in an embankment on the transition road.

The body was found about 200 yards north of the Newhall CHP office building near a strip mall and next to a Caltrans yard, Miler said.

The transition road and a Henry Mayo Drive onramp were closed for several hours while detectives inspected the scene, he added.

Coroner's officials have identified a body found this week near Interstate 5 as missing 18-year-old Valencia High School student Brigett Andrea Kennemore, and said she hanged herself.

The teenage Newhall resident was found Monday amid a cluster of trees off of the I-5 near Highway 126, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Detective Wayne Holston of the Homicide Bureau.

She had used a bungee cord to hang herself from a tree branch, Holston said.

Coroner's officials confirmed Friday the cause of death was suicide, and detectives found no signs of foul play in her death, Holston said.

Kennemore, who relatives said was developmentally disabled, had been missing since Oct. 26 when she was last seen getting off a bus in Castaic. Relatives said they believed Kennemore had recently broken up with her boyfriend.

Newhall resident Angelica Gomez, a friend of Kennemore's aunt, has set up a Bank of America memorial fund to help the family with funeral and other expenses.

"It is difficult to deal with the process," Gomez said of the family's hardship. "There's still a lot of unanswered questions."

Gomez said the family has not yet chosen a date for a memorial service.

Those who wish to donate to the family may do so any Bank of America branch. Checks can be written to "The Brigett Kennemore Memorial Fund."
