candlelight vigil at Redbud Park in Kosciusko on Saturday night marked at least two full days that missing businesswoman Vickie Ellington has been gone.

The Kosciusko Fitness and Tanning owner was reported missing around 8 p.m. Thursday, Department of Public Safety spokesman Jon Kalahar said. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting Attala County law enforcement officers in the search for Ellington, who was last seen around lunchtime Thursday.
An adult must be missing 48 hours before they're considered legally missing, Kalahar said. As Attala Countians prayed for the well-known resident, that benchmark passed and her name was added to the national missing persons databases.
Sheriff William Lee told BreezyNews.com in Kosciusko that Ellington told friends she was going to meet someone in Louisville on Thursday. Kalahar said her vehicle was then found in the Walmart parking lot on Mississippi 25 about 1 p.m. that day.
Kalahar said when Ellington did not meet an employee she was supposed to catch up with that evening, the employee contacted the Sheriff's Department.
Lee was quoted by WLBT news as saying that Ellington's case could be one of foul play. Kalahar said as far as MBI is concerned, they hope to find Ellington alive.
"At this point, it's too early to tell. We're going to conduct our investigation as if we are looking for a live person until any kind of evidence or tip leads us to believe different," he said.
Crime lab technicians began processing Ellington's vehicle Saturday night, and officials said witnesses still were being interviewed for possible leads as well.
Anyone with information related to the case may contact the Attala County Sheriff's Department at (662) 289-5556.

No new info in Ellington disappearance

By Leslie N. Dees The Star-Herald The Star Herald Wed Feb 01, 2012, 08:43 AM CST

KOSCIUSKO — A year has now come and gone since local businesswoman Vickie Ellington has gone missing.

Ellington, owner of Attala Fitness and Tanning, was last seen at the Louisville Wal-Mart Supercenter on Highway 25 in Winston County, where she had planned to meet someone on January 27, 2011. Her vehicle was found in the supercenter’s parking lot.

Attala County Sheriff William Lee said the investigation is ongoing but no new leads had surfaced.

Even with no new leads, Deborah Black, a friend and former employee, said people at the Swoll’s Gym still discuss the disappearance. Attala Fitness was sold after Ellington’s disappearance and renamed by new owners.

“The ladies have all been talking about her at the gym,” Black said last week. “We’d like some answers.”

“It’s been too long for us to feel that she’s just up and left,” Black said to refute some locals theories that Ellington just walked away from her life in Attala County.

“I just miss her,” Black said. “I miss her laughing and joking. I miss my friend.”

Lee said his department is working in connection with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations.

The MBI did not return calls as of press time on Tuesday.
