Details of Disappearance

Allen's father has been her primary caregiver since she was three years old. Her mother, Dara Marie Llorens, had visitation rights to Allen, who is the product of a three-year marriage between Llorens and Allen's father. Photos and vital statistics for Llorens are posted below this case summary. She was reportedly unhappy about the custody arrangement and complained to Child Protective Services (CPS) that Allen's father was abusing their daughter. CPS investigated the claims and found them to be baseless. They suspected that Llorens had fabricated the allegations and ordered her into therapy. Shortly after this, Llorens picked up her daughter for a weekend visitation on April 19, 2002.
When Llorens did not return the child on April 21, her father reported her missing. Llorens was indicted for abducting Allen on April 29, ten days after Allen was last seen. She had moved out of her residence and left a false forwarding address, and stopped showing up for work. Llorens abandoned her vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, in Austin and it is now in the possession of an aunt. All of Llorens's friends and family members say they do not know where she and Allen are. Allen is thought to be endangered due to her mother's personality disorders.

In June 2003, authorities surrounded a house in Mexico City where Llorens and Allen resided. However, Allen was not recovered. She and Llorens escaped after the Mexican police lifted their surveillance. They may still be in that country, or they may be in the American states of Texas or New Mexico. The Mexican authorities stated they could not arrest Llorens because she is a United States citizen and had not committed any crimes on Mexican soil.

At the time of her sighting in Mexico, Allen's hair was cut short and dyed black, as were her eyebrows and eyelashes. It may have since been dyed red. Photographs taken of her while in Mexico are posted above. She was attending the Tegüi preschool in Mexico City under the name Blanca Aurora Fabian Uribe and was nicknamed Blanquita. Her mother called herself Adriana Fabian Uribe. Allen reportedly appeared unhappy and neglected, and told people at her preschool that her mother was having financial problems. Allen spoke Spanish with an American accent and at the time she was seen in Mexico, was learning to read and write in Spanish.

Allen is described as a friendly, curious, and active, tomboyish child. She enjoys Barbie dolls, bugs, spiders, frogs, dress-up games, the television show Scooby-Doo, and movies, especially the movie Snow White. Her case remains unsolved.

Father still searching for daughter, five years after she disappeared

06:58 PM CDT on Friday, April 20, 2007

By CLARA TUMA
KVUE News

Saturday marks five years since the night a little girl from Austin and her mother disappeared and apparently fled to Mexico. The girl’s father, Greg Allen, has legal custody of his daughter, Sabrina. Allen says he won’t rest until she’s back home.

KVUE Online Video
KVUE's Clara Tuma reports
Allen says he believes his daughter and ex-wife are living as fugitives in Mexico. He says he and his private investigator are closer than they’ve ever been to finding Sabrina, even though they don’t know exactly where she is, what her hair color is, or even what name she might be using.

Sabrina was only five when she disappeared, a tow-headed beauty coping with divorced parents, living with dad, with occasional visits with mom.

“On what seemed like a regular visitation weekend, she just didn't come back. And that was five years ago this weekend,” said Allen.

Greg quickly tracked Sabrina and his ex-wife, Dara, to Mexico. He found out Dara had been working for a private investigator, a job that could have taught her how to disappear.

“I believe she was trying to learn how to avoid getting caught by catching other people. Apparently it's worked pretty well,” said Allen.

In the 1,826 days since that night, Allen has come close, but hasn’t seen Sabrina again. Photographs from Mexico show that her hair has been dyed and cut short, and computerized imagery shows what Sabrina might look like now that she’s almost 10.

“We have lots of leads and we're as close as we've ever been in the last five years,” said Allen. “There are things that we know that I am not at liberty to discuss about … what her mom does for a living, about where her mom is going, about where she's being taken. She is not in safe places.

It’s been five years, but Allen remains optimistic, and hopes his days without Sabrina are coming to an end.

“I'm very actively pursuing finding her and won't stop until she's home,” he said.

Allen says the last thing his daughter said to him was, “Daddy, don’t forget me,’ because he says he now believes she knew her mother was going to take her away. He says he keeps looking and will never forget.

Greg Allen is offering a $20,000 reward for information about Sabrina.

Father marks anniversary of daughter's disappearance

KVUE News

Saturday is a bittersweet anniversary for Austin's Greg Allen. It marks the fifth anniversary of the day his daughter, Sabrina, disappeared with his former wife.

Sabrina with her dad, Greg Allen.
Sabrina was only 5-years-old then and was living with her dad, with occasional overnight visits with her mother.

Then -- more than 1,800 days ago -- Sabrina vanished.

"On what seemed like a regular visitation weekend, she just didn't come back, and that was five years ago this weekend."

Allen quickly tracked Sabrina and his ex-wife, Dara, to Mexico. He found out Dara had been working for a private investigator, learning, perhaps, how to disappear.

"I believe she was trying to learn how to avoid getting caught by catching other people," he says. "Apparently it's worked pretty well."

In the five years since that night, Allen has come close, but hasn't seen Sabrina again.

In 2003, a teacher in Mexico told him a girl in her class said her name was Sabrina, that her dad's name was Greg and that she was from Texas, but by the time officials followed up, the mother and child were gone.

KVUE Online Video
KVUE's Clara Tuma reports
"She was found one other time in another small town," he says. "There were some things that didn't go as well as they could have gone, there were some precautions that weren't taken that could have been, and she got away again. So, after she had gotten away, they tried really hard to find out where she was and they tracked her to a bus station, but she was already long gone."

Still, Allen and his private investigator press on, remembering Sabrina's last words to him: "Daddy, don't forget about me."

"We have lots of leads and we're as close as we've ever been in the last five years," he says. "There are things that we know that I am not at liberty to discuss about what her mom does for a living, about where her mom is going, about where she's being taken. She is not in safe places."

It's been five years, but Allen remains optimistic. He believes Sabrina is still in Mexico, with her blonde hair cut and dyed red or black. He looks forward to the days she returns to Texas.

"I'm very actively pursuing finding her and won't stop until she's home," he says. "...I'm never going to forget her. I'll find her."

Sabrina's Hope Garden
April 21, 2005 marked the third anniversary of Sabrina's abduction. We held a prayer service in Sabrina's Hope Garden to remember the date.

Sabrina's Hope Garden was dedicated in 2003, at the one year anniversary of Sabrina's abduction. It was planted on the property at Triumphant Love Lutheran Church, where Sabrina attended from age 2 until her abduction.

This garden was designed to attract butterflies, repel deer, and survive in the direct Texas sun. In the middle of the garden is a bench where you can sit and ponder. The church and the garden are on the edge of a large hill, and from your seat you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Texas Hill Country.

In the spring, many of the flowers are blooming. I wanted to share some photos of the garden, taken in 2005.

Fox wraps up Austin trip at UT
11/6/2003 10:19 PM
By: News 8 Austin Staff

Gov. Rick Perry with Mexican President Vicente Fox before arriving at UT.
President of Mexico Vicente Fox ended his Austin trip at the University of Texas.

Fox spoke in Spanish to a full house at the LBJ Auditorium.

His speech touched on the communication between the United States and Mexico.

He said he hoped his three-state visit will help strengthen the relationship.

Fox also said he plans to talk with President Bush soon about rights for Mexicans working in the United States.

Fox insisted there are no terrorists in Mexico.

He commended New Mexico for giving undocumented Mexicans the opportunity to get a state drivers license.

There were some demonstrators at the UT address who were concerned the Fox administration is not doing enough to solve the hundreds of deaths of young women in and near Juarez.

Greg Allen was also in attendance at the UT speech. He needs help finding his daughter, Sabrina Allen, now 6, in Mexico.

Greg Allen said Sabrina's mother, Dara Llorens, took Sabrina to Mexico a year-and-a-half ago.

He put together a packet of information about his daughter to give to Fox in hopes that it will lead to her safe return.

"If you compared those pictures to how she looked when she left, you can see her hair's been dyed and she's lost a lot of weight. It's also got the flyer in Spanish and in English. I don't expect the president would spend a lot of time with it, but maybe one of his staff members would take an interest and make something happen," Greg Allen said.

Allen said he was able to give the information, including a letter to Fox, to a security chief.

He said right now there are very little resources in Mexico designated to finding Sabrina.

Two Years Missing

Sabrina Fair Allen

April 21, 2004 marked the two year anniversary of Sabrina Allen's abduction. Sabrina's home church in Austin, Triumphant Love Lutheran Church, held a service for all missing and hurting children. Sabrina was abducted from Austin, Texas by her non-custodial mother, Dara Marie Llorens.

Several dozen attended the service, including Robert Cooke, the father of missing central Texas woman Rachel Cooke. Songs were sung, candles were lit in remembrance, and worshipers were invited to write names of individual children for prayer.

Sabrina's father, Greg Allen, read scripture during the service and spoke afterward.

Today marks a difficult anniversary. Two years ago today my daughter, Sabrina, did not come home from a weekend visit with her non-custodial mother. There had been repeated threats to flee to Mexico, and I immediately feared the worst. I could not have imagined the journey I was to undertake -- I unwillingly joined the club of parents with an abducted child.

I've worked very hard at finding Sabrina and at raising awareness about parental abduction. Sabrina's story has been on local and national television, including "America's Most Wanted". I've worked closely with law enforcement, and with private investigators.

I've helped to pass a Texas law called "Prevention of International Parental Child Abduction" by testifying before committees in both houses of the state legislature. This was signed into law just days before Sabrina's last birthday. This law is now being used as a model to be passed in other states. It could have prevented Sabrina's abduction, and will help others in similar situations across the USA.

In the last year I have spent considerable time in Mexico, studying Spanish and trying to find Sabrina.

All of that hard work seemed to pay off last June. I received an email from a teacher in a preschool. She was Sabrina's teacher. I was in Mexico City at the time, and ate dinner with the teacher that night. I turned the information over to the authorities. Three very long days later I was told that they were in custody, and that I should fly to Houston where we would be reunited. When I arrived, I learned that they had escaped.

One of my intentions throughout this ordeal has been to raise awareness about parental abductions. Many people assume that a child with an abducting parent is just fine -- they're with a parent, right? Wrong! Parental abduction is an act of revenge and spite, and certainly not for the child.

Last year I read a list of damages to abducted children, not knowing Sabrina's situation. I had hoped that Sabrina's situation would be better than this, but it wasn't. Her hair was cut and dyed. Their names were changed. Her teachers were shocked -- they had had a birthday party on a day that wasn't her birthday. Sabrina frequently went without eating and had lost considerable weight. Multiple people told me that Sabrina was suffering in her mother's care. I'd like to read an email from a teacher that I communicated with. I have translated it from Spanish.

The girl is suffering with her mother.
Sabrina is always preoccupied. The woman has made her believe that a man is looking for her to do her harm.
Sabrina believes that everything that happens is her fault.
The woman doesn't work and doesn't have money. Sabrina only ate what I could give her in the school. She didn't eat on weekends and she was always hungry when she came to school.
Her stomach hurt a lot. I believe it was because she didn't eat breakfast or supper.
Her head hurt and she had fever very frequently. I told this to her mother, but she didn't care.
The woman told Sabrina not to tell me anything because I was very bad. Because of this, it took a lot of work to gain Sabrina's confidence.
If the woman saw that Sabrina was affectionate with me, she punished her. Sabrina told me that she would not be allowed to speak all afternoon.
When Sabrina spoke about you [her father] she cried a lot. She told me about her life with you, and that she missed you very much. She said she wanted to be with you.
The woman always scolded her and told her rude things. She told her that she was very ugly, that nobody wanted her, and that everything was her fault.

I'd say this paints a pretty clear picture of Sabrina's life. Sabrina's teachers wouldn't accept any money from the reward, despite having lost their jobs. One worked very hard to locate recent photos and a video, in hopes of finding her. We still keep in contact.

Parental abduction is child abuse, and inexcusable under any circumstances. People sometimes try to justify it by saying, "I'm protecting the child from abuse." Actually, they are abusing the child. Sabrina told her teacher that she can't live this life anymore. And now her name has been changed again.

It has been a hard two years, but I can say that I have learned to be happy in the face of this horror. I found something else in Mexico City that I wasn't expecting: Mariana. She has been my Spanish teacher, translator, traveling companion, tour guide, and friend. I'm also happy to announce that she has recently become my fiancee.

Although this anniversary is difficult, it is also hopeful. One year ago, I could only guess where Sabrina was, or even if she was alive. This year we found them. We have some leads, and we will find them again -- it's only a matter of time. It won't be as fast as I want, but we will find them again.

I've received incredible support and encouragement from friends and the community. Thank you, and please keep praying. We'll have a lot of work to do when Sabrina gets home. Hopefully it will be soon.

Allen had sole legal custody of Sabrina. The abductor, Llorens, was diagnosed with a personality disorder, and had supervised visitation for six months. For more information, or to see how you can help, please visit Sabrina's website at FindSabrina.org.

Fathers search for missing girls
10/27/2003 9:33 AM
By: Allie Rasmus

Greg Allen's daughter Sabrina was taken by her non-custodial mother.
Nearly 800,000 children are reported missing in the United States every year. Some are abducted by family members; others by strangers.

Robert Cooke and Greg Allen are united by such tragic circumstances.

"We both have a daughter that's missing that we love very much," Cooke said.

Rachel Cooke was kidnapped while jogging and Sabrina Allen was abducted by her non-custodial mother. Even though the circumstances are different these fathers share a common pain.

"I called him up one day just to say, 'You don't know me but unfortunately we have some things in common,'" Allen said.

That's why Cooke helped with the Walk for Sabrina, a community event to raise money for Sarbina Allen's search.

"Greg supported us in many of the events … I just wanted to come and show our support," Cooke said.

Robert Cooke and Greg Allen are working together to find their daughters.

Both Cooke and Allen have reached out to other families in their shoes.

"The Hornbecks, their kid is missing out of Missouri and actually Lacy Peterson's family Web site has added a link to Sabrina and Rachel," Allen said.

Web sites are a vital source of communication for families looking for missing loved ones. They serve a dual purpose, not only do they get the word out about search efforts but they also provide a source of moral support.

"There is, Robert calls it, a club no parents want to belong to ," said Elaine Cooke-Hettenhausen.

That's why websites like FindSabrina.org and Rachelcookesearch.org have links and resources to other search efforts.

"Because it helps us to know we're helping someone else through this tragedy," Cooke-Hettenhausen said.

Both on and offline, these two fathers are finding comfort while they attempt to find their daughters.

Sabrina sighted in Mexico City

Sabrina Fair Allen

On the morning of Tuesday June 10, Greg Allen received an e-mail tip with the address of a preschool in Mexico City. It was the daycare that his missing daughter, Sabrina, had been attending. One week later, she was again missing.

Coincidentally, Allen was in Mexico City when he received the tip. He had arrived two weeks prior and was scheduled to stay for two more. "What has been missing from the search for Sabrina is my ability to speak Spanish well. I am in an immersive Spanish program and living with a host family. In the mornings I take Spanish lessons, and in the afternoons I try to find Sabrina," says Allen.

"I was trying to generate press in Mexico so that we could find them. I got great press in Texas, but was still having trouble in Mexico. I did have an article on Saturday in The Herald, an English newspaper in Mexico City," he said.

But Allen did not find Sabrina -- someone that knew Sabrina found him, unaware that he was only about 10 miles away. "It was nothing short of a miracle. I came here knowing the odds; this is a city of over 20 million people."

The tipster wishes to remain anonymous, so we will call her Maria. Maria says that she has known Sabrina since she began attending the school in September. She goes by the name Blanca.

Maria says Sabrina is obviously a troubled child. She is sweet and friendly, but has inner turmoil. In school, she seems very distracted. She seems like a child with an unstable home.

Maria says that Sabrina is suffering in her mother's care because she does not get enough attention. It is obvious that Sabrina's hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes are dyed black. Sabrina told Maria that she is not allowed to talk about what is bothering her.

Sabrina told Maria, "We don't have money. We don't have it to eat or to pay the school. A friend pays the school." Maria says that Sabrina obviously feels responsible for the situation. One time Sabrina refused a second helping of lunch saying, "It will cost my mommy more money."

"Sabrina frequently misses breakfast, and sometimes goes without dinner. She looks like she has poor physical care. Her mother has a bad reputation at the school; I don't think she has a job, and she is frequently rude, with a bad attitude," said Maria.

Maria went to the internet, and searched the website of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC, ncmec.org). She found a picture of Sabrina with blonde hair. She was convinced it was her, and made a tip.

Maria also tried for a few days to contact Allen directly. Armed with Blanca's real name from the NCMEC, she found Sabrina's website, FindSabrina.org. Before this, she was unaware that there was any reward being offered. "My motivation is Sabrina's well-being," Maria says.

The e-mail tip was short, but detailed. "I had a good feeling as soon as I read it," said Allen. "I forwarded the e-mail to the FBI and went immediately to the Embassy. I also met with the tipster that evening. The next day the AFI went to the school and followed them home." The AFI is the Mexican equivalent of the FBI.

"I knew it was Sabrina. Before the abduction, Sabrina mentioned that she was going to have Snow White hair; Snow White was her favorite character. Now her hair is short and black, and she is using the name Blanca. Snow White is Blanca Nieves in Spanish," said Allen.

Sabrina has been missing for almost 14 months. She was taken by her non-custodial mother, Dara Llorens, on April 21, 2002. Llorens was diagnosed with a personality disorder during the Allens' divorce. Llorens has used many aliases, and had supervised visits prior to the abduction. When the court allowed unsupervised visits, Llorens took Sabrina to Mexico.

They were in Mexico illegally, and the authorities got the proper paperwork to deport them. Then something went wrong. "Friday I was told that they were in custody, and to get on a plane. When I landed, I heard that they were locked in their house," he said. "I had a bad feeling. Dara is very skilled at manipulation. I tried to warn the authorities that she would do something unpredictable."

"It was a difficult Father's Day. I didn't know what was happening down there."

On Tuesday, he learned the bad news. "She escaped. I was very upset and frustrated. How did this happen?"

Llorens is charged with Interference With Child Custody, a felony in Texas. She could also face federal international kidnaping charges.

Allen is concerned about Sabrina, "Dara's care of Sabrina is consistent with the past -- it's so sad what Sabrina is going through. It is obviously affecting her. She needs a stable, loving home."

"I told Maria she was a hero. She gave me an incredible gift, even if they got away." said Allen. "Dara planned the abduction for a long time. She apparently had false identification papers, too. This time she is on the run. Losing them is difficult, but better than not having found them and all. Hopefully we can find them again soon."
