Welcome to all Territorial Disputes delegates

I'm Viivi Rissanen, one of the 2 chairs of this year's Territorial Disputes committee, and I'd like to welcome everyone to the best committee in MUN

Where else do you get to decide the final borders of countries? Where else do you get to decide which countries gain independence and which don't? That's basically the point of this committee: we propose solutions to conflicts over land and borders.

As you hopefully know, our issues this year are:

-The creation of a Kurdish state in the Middle East
-Finalizing the legal status of Tibet
-Reuniting Turkish-controlled northern Cyprus and the southern Republic of Cyprus

Obviously, solving those issues is not going to be as easy as getting dressed in the morning. In order to write strong resolutions, a lot of historical knowledge as well as knowledge of the current situation is going to be necessary.

The point of this forum is to get to know other delegates that will be in your committee, ask questions about things you don't understand (such as how to write policy statements) and to prepare yourself for the conference. Some delegates even use these forums as places to lobby for support for their resolutions. That way, they already have co-submitters and people supporting their resolution when they come to TIMEMUN in February. Just an idea.

So introduce yourself, and have fun getting to know what MUN is about. See you all in February, latest.
