I believe they are weak, and I think every time they get together they prove that. In fact, I can't see how you could say they are very strong.

The UN sucks. It's a fraternity of dictators and despots who spend more time passing resolutions against Israel then they do ever even looking at real problems.

I don't know much good about it, except maybe that it might help propagate the illusion that countries can cooperate thus bringing us closer to some shadow of closeness.

I think you have hit upon something deeper here... it is about illusion, an unrealistic assumption that having a body named the "united nations" is actually worth the trouble of putting up with the real UN itself. It is a completely dysfunctional body marred by the bribery of despots and dictators to the incompetent bureaucracy that infects the fine city of New York. Eight small examples... 1. The UN allowed China to rape Tibet. 2. Darfur ('nuff said) 3. Libya on the Human Rights commission 4. Oil for food for dictators 5. Numerous resolutions against the only functioning democracy in the Middle East (Israel) 6. Giving votes to representatives of dictatorships (they DO NOT represent their people) 7. The child rape scandals of UN forces in Africa 8. The utter failure of the IAEA under Mohamed ElBaradei to control the proliferation of nuclear weapons... under his watch, Pakistan, North Korea, and now Iran and Syria are 'nuking up' What do they actually do besides waste money on failed programs and bad mouth Israel and the USA? Believe me, if I were president I would sign an executive order kicking the UN out of NYNY and use the former UN building as the new world headquarters of Levis, McDonalds, Coca-Cola and Colt firearms :P |

I completely agree. The United Nations is a pathetic insult to the the sovereignty of the United States in addition to being corrupt and worthless. The idea that we, the most potent power the world has ever seen, should be beholden to such an inept, blustering circus is ridiculous, as is the "small world thinking" that permeates it. And if such an organization must exist, so as to make everyone feel good or something, it can be headquartered somewhere else. Geneva seems a fitting location.

Tairos, that was one of the most arrogant and blatantly racist posts Ive ever read. The UN is built for the weaker nations of the Earth to have their say in the world.
Although I think the UN is useless as well but thats just because they dont do anything, lol. BTW Rome was vastly more powerful than the USA will ever be, rofl. |

Rome was very powerful indeed, and it shaped many of the cultures in the world today, but the US has so much influence in the world right now, it would be hard to say that the US has not surpassed Rome. I didn't see how Tarios' post was racist. Could you explain that position? |
