What do you think? Do you think that graphics are important in games?
I choose 'No' because look at Pac-Man, Space Invaders etc. Are all 2d games and will be classics for ever.

But then again the GTA series will be a classic, but thats mainly GTA 1 that was 2d too....What do you think?

Graphics don't make the game but if the game is already in 3d I'd prefer good graphics rather than bad graphics(unless it is for stylistic purposes). But graphics upgrades don't always work for the better. Look at Sonic the Hedgehog. If they'd return to 2d everything would own.

I have to admit graphics do improve the game a bit, but if the plan is solid, and its original, the game could be text based and still kick ass lol

Graphics don't make games but they can ruin games, If a game chooses to have have graphics then they must be good/suitable graphics and not something done in a few seconds in ms paint.

There are many great games without graphics (both big games and small games)
Chart Wars, Championship Manager (do have some graphics but not many.) and lots more.

But some games just wouldn't work without graphics, can you imagine playing tiger woods pro golf as a text based game.

***************************
* WHAT SHOT WILL YOU PLAY? *
* 1.) HOLE IN ONE ***********
* 2.) BIRDIE ****************
* 3.) PAR *******************
* 4.) EAGLE *****************
***************************

Wouldn't quite be the same, would it?

Well , it depends on the genre of the game ... since I'm a text-based fanatic then I'd say no . But from time to time I like playing NBA or FIFA and graphics do play a big part in em

Graphics, usually, do improve the game. Fancy animations (2d or 3d), fancy sounds and rest multimedia, make playing of the game much more enjoyable experience.

But extra-realism put in graphics does not necessarily have significant impact. Some genres require more realistic graphics, some less, but I believe that extra-realistic graphics with pathetic keyboard-mouse or gamepad/joystick interface can be silly.

Graphics also do not need to be realistic to improve the game. Like smoofdude said, just look back at Sonic The Hedgehog and other games from 16-bit and 8-bit era.

Simulations do not need realistic graphics, and if someone decided to make sim games with extra-realistic graphics, one would need to change the way we control the game (interface - keyboard,mouse,joystick..). Otherwise, it'd not have any significant impact.

Games where complete immersion is the goal need good graphics. But it all depends on what you mean by "good". Is good Crysis with it's ultra-realistic environments or is it Team Fortress 2 with it's stylistic, yet comparatively primitive cartoony art style?

I'd say that graphics don't make the game, overall. Is some genres it is important to have at least adequate graphics but for the most part they are just eye candy. IMO it's not so much the graphics that make the game as the "meat" of the game, the UI, engine, storeyline, etc that make the game good.

Still, good graphics can help when a game already has a good UI, story, engine, etc to support them.

In short, graphics don't make the game, but they can make the game better.

well, graphics play a big part in the overlook of a game,

but i supose, if the story line is cool, and the way the game is run - like what you do ingame- the games graphics could be kinda excused if there are mistakes or low quality.

I might be old fashioned but I love classic 90's simple 2d games, like mario, or even sonic .
