Welcome To the Obsession Studios Academy!
News and Information

Alright, people! It would appear that we have a really full student load! Therefore, I'm going to close applications for now, EXCEPT for PS Elements, because we still have a couple slots there.

Because the chat and request forums were recently switched to over to Obsession-Studios.net, I've added some new forums. There is now CHAT, FREEBIES, and CRITIQUES forums available. Please try not to spoom the chat board. If you really feel the need for silliness, the spoom board is alive and well at OS.N (link above).

QUOTE
And, for your first assignment:
Ideally, I'd like you to take  *this* picture, cut out the horse, remove the halter, and smudge it. Do as much as you can, and put the finished work on a background color of #0099CC (light turquoise/blue)

that one? unsure.gif

ok.

Also, when you're saving, make sure to always have a photoshop file (.psd or something like that, it's the default) so that you can change the pic if needed, and a JPEG so that it's ready for the web. ^^ Can't remember if I told you that or not, nd don't know if you knew or not. lol

Okay. Not bad, for just starting out.

Places you did extremely well:
The backside of the front legs and the chest. Very crisp and neat, very well done.

Places that need the most work:
The bottom of the belly, the back of the horse, the top of his rump, and around the face.
See how there's extra parts of background left over? You can see grass or some sort of something that isn't horse showing up? You don't want that. Also, around the face, there's a lot of bumpy cutting and some white left over. If you've going to leave on white as a blaze, then leave on more so it's a bit more obvious. If not, then make sure it's ALL gone.

Try to make sure that your selection brush is set to 100% hardness. That way, you won't get fuzzy edges. They're obnoxious and hard to deal with.

Last but not least, when you're cutting out manes (if they're long) and tails, make sure that there is no background showing through. If you have to cut off a bulk of the tail to do it, then that's ok, do it. We'll fix that by smudging later.

If you're ok with it, I'd like you to re-do the lesson. I have a tutorial on the tutorials board here that explains the magnetic lasso tool and selection brush tool, so if you want to use that to help you, please do. I'm not saying you have to do it that way, because some people don't understand how to use it or it confuses them, but it should help you if you follow it step by step.

Make sure you pay attention to everything I've told you here, and try to apply it to the lesson this time.

You're starting off very well, though, don't be discouraged! I know I talk alot and it looks a bit discouraging, but I just want to give you as much info as possible so you can really improve fast! Thanks, my dear!

Roo, dear, if you've gone away it'd be nice if you would tell me where you're going so I know, and if not... Well, I may have to drop you as a student.
