Title: Server move
Description: Oops I do it again...

Theoderich II - May 5, 2011 08:15 AM (GMT)
As promised I will keep you updated on my progress on the server move here.

Theoderich II - May 5, 2011 09:34 AM (GMT)
All your website data has been backed up on my local machine. Furthermore, all files remain on the old server until the account on that server is canceled anyway.

I'm preparing the files and databases for upload now.

Hetan has initiated the domain transfer in the meanwhile.

Theoderich II - May 5, 2011 11:03 AM (GMT)
Databases have been transferred. Files still working (at 20%).

Theoderich II - May 5, 2011 01:07 PM (GMT)
Hetan successfully re-configured the domain and DNS servers. The domain should point to the new location in 24 to max. 72 hours from now. This is the long part.

File upload is at about 50% growing 10% per hour. I expect the file upload being finished this evening.

TODO:

1. finish file upload
2. re-configure all web applications to work in the new environment
3. test all web applications
4. wait for the DNS to be updated
5. unlock forums

Theoderich II - May 5, 2011 08:40 PM (GMT)
File upload complete. Tomorrow I will re-configure the web applications and test them as far as I can. Some settings rely on the active domain name. There have been issues with that, however, with registrar locks and such things. But we are on it.

Hetan - May 5, 2011 08:53 PM (GMT)
There should be no registrar lock - it was unlocked this morning.

Abyss - May 5, 2011 10:22 PM (GMT)
You'll have to let me know at what point i'm supposed to sacrifice the llama, keeping in mind i need a few hours to charge up the batteries.

Also, you didn't specify the gender of the chickens. Please advise.

Theoderich II - May 6, 2011 12:10 PM (GMT)
We have re-configured all web applications to suite to the new environment. The board is already unlocked, but many of the functions (i.e. the skins) don't work as they rely on the domain. Currently, we have two issues to fix yet:

1. 500 Internal server error when logging into ACP
2. the domain transfer

Everything else is ready to go. I'm currently working on the 500 error and that's all I can do for the moment without the domain.

Ah, and I want male chickens.

Abyss - May 6, 2011 02:01 PM (GMT)
Male chickens. got it.

Thank god because the females leave eggs all over the frikkin place and for some reason they fight harder when you try to throw them into the cauldron.

Shit, i need parsnips...

Theoderich II - May 6, 2011 02:08 PM (GMT)
:)

The 500 server error has just been resolved. We are only waiting for the domain before you can continue browsing as usual. No, not as usual: you have 4 times more RAM! B)

Hetan received a mail from Lunarpages that the domain is on the way to the new location too, however no dates have been stated.

Abyss - May 6, 2011 03:27 PM (GMT)
We needs rams?

Fuck, i though goats were going to be okay... are you sure about the rams? ...the frikkin horns make the beheading with that tiny knife a real problem... much less four of them...

Theoderich II - May 6, 2011 04:21 PM (GMT)
You are making a server move a ritual.

Can we REP here?

I NEED to rep Abyss for this. I'm sick with a sore throat and this made me laugh my ass off!!

Imaginary rep for Abyss!

You mean it isn't normally? This is how all our server/forum shifts go down...

The server fail two serves ago was spectacular for its suddenness and the amount of threads that we lost. :) After that one we only had one direction left to go.

Where we're going, there's no need for directions.

The domain name transfer is all that is holding us back now. I have completed all the transfer documents so all we can do is wait for the domain to resolve to it's new home which can take anything up to a week.

Without the domain being "live" Theo cannot update all the URL's etc and ensure that all images etc are working.

Please god, not a week. I don't think we can take it.

The withdrawals...........................................................................

Hetan - May 7, 2011 04:03 PM (GMT)
Heheh - nope - it's gone through today and you can log in again - see the post in the announcements thread for details.

Theo will be updating the URL's when he has the time.

Theoderich II - May 7, 2011 04:51 PM (GMT)
Okay. The domain is on our own servers now and is using our own DNS servers. DNS entries at Who.is have been updated to the values provided by our service provider. Everything works according to our plan so far.

The DNS wave began. Country per country the national DNS servers get an update for our two new servers. This update process can last unpredictably. It may happen that half of you can already browse the board using the domain as usual. The other half still won't be able to access it, me for example. Quote from our hardware provider:

QUOTE
As stated in ticket #2246882, your Nameservers have been set and will take 24 - 48 hours to propagate through out the web.

The problem for me is now, if I update all forum URLs to the domain no one can browse the board anymore until the domain is "really" active. Speak: you type in forum.malazanempire.com and the forum appears.

Unless that is the case the URLs can't be restore without affecting your browsing experience.
