It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness… you get the idea. It is the year 1977, and if Charles Dickens were alive today, he would likely find things not so different as the era of which he wrote in one of his most famous works. In the wizarding world, especially, things are dire and bleak.

Of course, while things are getting depressingly darker, the next generation of the wizarding world is within Hogwarts. With the chaos beyond the building's broad doors, they are finding themselves being forced to grow up faster than they would like. Being students of Hogwarts, they still manage to to be the teenagers that they are in this time; friendships are forged while others are broken, and romances begin to blossom while some wizards and witches want to break each others necks.

So now you have to decide - will you help darken the world further, or try to bring it back to lightness?

Welcome to Lumos&Nox, a literate roleplay that takes place in the Marauders' last year at Hogwarts. We're slightly AU as far as canons go, as we've tweaked the ages of some of them for your enjoyment. Take a look around, and we look forward to roleplaying with you!

september

{1977}

The hustle and bustle of getting onto trains brings students to a place with new friends, new enemies, new lovers...and education, of course. But there's a twinkle in Dumbledore's eye nowadays, which could mean one of two things: he knows something about you you didn't think he knew, or he's got a trick up his sleeve. Hold on, because this year's going to have a crazy start.

You may now post on the Hogwarts Express and all of the grounds!

the playwright
a little about you

alias; Doriz
age; 14
gender; Fe to the male.
roleplay experience; ;]
availability; This is my life.
other characters; Dorcas Meadowes and Anastasia Greengrass.

casting call
the basics

full name; Viola May Fawcett
nicknames; Most people call her Viola, but people very close to her may call her Vi.
age; Seventeen.
birthdate; May 5.
    "I'm the fab-u-lous seventeen. Or better yet, not so fabulous - I really don't see the glamour of being legal. It's not like there's an election and I still go to school. Anyway, my birthday is on the lovely May fifth. Yes, it's the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo, but I haven't ever gone to a celebration for it. I have no dire need to, as I have no Spanish hertiage, and I used spend my birthday with my mom and dad before Hogwarts. We went somewhere special, like an amusement park or to the beach."
house and year; Ravenclaw/Seventh year.
alliance; Neutral.
    "I find the idea of war pretty ridiculous. People, in theory, should get along. So if we really can't, we should think back to when we were five - we were taught to talk out our problems with others. Why shouldn't we be able to do it now? I've decided I'm above all of this, being more mature than everyone else. If all of these people were really grown up, they would be able to discuss this."
blood status; Half-blood.
sexuality; Heterosexual.
    "It's not that I dislike girls, I just don't find myself fancying them. If the Muggle religion of Christianity is correct, females were made for males. A witch can like a witch, just like a wizard can like a wizard, and I'm all for it. It's just not my route."
animal familiars; Willow, her kitten.
    "I've always wanted a cat. So as a surprise birthday gift, my parents bought her for me this past June. She's an adorable little thing, and I love her so much. She's a wonderful lap cat, and is pretty mellow - but she'll play with you if you wave a ribbon in her face."
canon or original; Vague canon.
anything else?; n/a

the costume department
the physical appearance

playby; Emmy Rossum
hair;
    While many girls prefer straight hair that they can style into any shape, Viola loves her collection of almost auburn-colored curls growing from her head. The ringlets flow down to her shoulders, but if you straightened them they'd most likely go further. Because they were so perfect even as a baby, people used to ask her mother if she put curlers in her daughter's hair. They're pretty, yes, but Viola only treasures them for just how fun they are.
eyes;
    What allows Viola to see is very soft on the eyes for others because of their toffee color. They match her hair, which only adds to the Plain-Jane appearance; but she doesn't mind. She'd rather people looked at her for her intelligence and consoling words than her outsides anyway.
height/weight; 5'7"/118 lb.
build;
    Viola has always been on the slimmer side; as a little girl, her grandmother insisted she didn't eat enough. She has one of those handy-dandy speedy motabolisms, so it didn't have much of an effect when food was forced upon her - she only felt sick. She's got curves, but she's not nearly as curvy as your average girl. She's a little self-conscious about this, so she tries to keep conversations focused on others instead of herself.
anything else?; if no, leave blank

the role
the personality

    -helping other people with their problems

    Maryann Therese Fawcett (nee Garry), thirty-five, house wife, mother; Gavin Alexander Fawcett, thirty-five, International Magical Office of Law, father.
siblings; ____ Fawcett, twenty-four, older brother

background history;
    "My parents were your pretty average couple. They started dating in their sixth year, a Gryffindor and a Ravenclaw, and their friends say they were pretty cute together. Both had beautiful brown hair -- my mum's being straight and mousy brown, while my dad's was curly and dark. My mum had beautiful brown eyes, and my dad hazel. Their peers joked that they'd have beautiful brunette babies together, and little did they know, they would have two -- namely me and my older brother.

    They got engaged a few days after their graduation, and then married only weeks after that. They had a beautiful outdoor wedding in a floral garden nearby their cute little house. My mum got pregnant with my brother relatively soon after their marriage. Granny used to say that Mum couldn't wait to have children. She was blessed with my older brother the spring following.

    He grew up, and for seven blissful years he was an only child. At this time, my mum had tried desperately to have more children; these past several years my brother had spent many nights with my grandparents while my parents were 'busy.' (coughs) Now my mother, for some reason, was not fertile enough to have another child. I think she went through at least two miscarriages. Mum dropped into a depression, and after one last...try, she had me. I was born in the spring, just like my brother - I suppose it was a new page for my mother, renewal and rebirth and all that. I was played with outside a lot while Dad was working at the Ministry (and he still does).

    From a young age I walked to the nearby Muggle library and read through the children's books. I'm told I was a bright little thing, but that wasn't the only significant thing about me. I liked observing people and wondering what made them tick. I liked to think about the scenarios that each person was going through by their actions. I soon got too curious to just make up my own stories -- I wanted to know what they were really going through.

    Continuing with my observational adventures, one day after I had just turned five, I saw a woman pouring over relationship help books. She kept sniffling, wiping her nose on the back of her hand. I picked up a tissue box and walked over to the table she was at and sat across from her. She gave me a small smile as a thanks. 'No problem, ma'm,' I told her, and then cocked my head. 'What's wrong? Why do you need those books?' I gestured towards them. 'You're too little to understand,' she told my little five-year-old self. 'Give it a shot,' I said, smiling. She gave me a hesitant look and began her story. If I recall correctly, her boyfriend was complaining they weren't spending enough intimate time together, and she was afraid that he was seeing another woman behind her back.

    This is the first time someone explaining their feelings around me. I pondered this and gave her the response that if her boyfriend really loved her, he would understand if she was busy with something really important. If what she was doing was unnecessary, then she should drop it to spend more time with her love. She kissed me on the cheek and hugged me with a thank you. The next time I saw her at the library some weeks later, her boyfriend kept catching kisses with her amongst the shelves. I kept doing this with the random strangers I met. Before I knew it, many regulars at the libraries felt they owed me for my kindness.

    I felt like I was betrayed my mum when I left for Hogwarts some years later. She only had my dad and no one else. However, as tears welled up in her eyes at Platform nine and three-quarters, she only gave me a kiss and a wish that I would write to her and stay out of trouble. I kept to her request, writing weekly. My friendships grew, and occasionally I caught an opportunity to help others by therapizing with them. This skill was needed as much then as it is now, when hormones all over the place and hearts are broken and new loves are made within a matter of seconds. Not that I mind it -- I like helping people.

    Sometimes I wish I had a love to fantasize about, or a broken heart that needed mending, just so my own life would have some interest. But all in all, I'd rather not have to think about myself. Most likely other people's dilemmas are more captivating than having my own. Seventh year begins, with more people lacking common sense about what really is right are filling every nook and cranny, and more lovestruck teenagers for me to help."

ALRIGHT, FOR NOW, HERE'S THE JIST OF VIOLA...
    she's intelligent, intellectual, good with people, charismatic, friendly, and naive. she likes talking with people about their problems, whether they like it or not -- but in the end, they usually end up liking it. she's so naive she's easily frustrated by how people can't seem to get along (especially now with rumors of a war). she's got this aura about her that people are drawn to, and it might help she's very cute. viola is so focused on other people rather than herself because she's always putting herself down.
PRETTY COOL, HUH?
