etienne isn't someone who just says thing as they come to him or acts on impulse. he takes time to look at things from every angle and he always makes sure he knows all his options. he doesn't speak much, aside from when he is with claudia, and even when he does speak his words are careful and thoughtfully chosen. he isn't rude, but some people might take his deep silence as simply not liking them. however, even as a human, he wasn't terribly outgoing. claudia brings some of that out but he is still usually very calm and composed. he loves to learn and talk about things, you know light topics like the meaning of life and stuff. that was sarcasm, fyi. he doesn't get frazzled easily and he is the kind of person you can talk to if you need someone to listen and not freak out or add to your stress even more. he has a calming effect on people in general and he isn't very loud or nosy. he is one of those people that doesn't need to fill the odd silence with mindless chatter in order to be comfortable and he allows people to have their space. he doesn't over or ask too many questions. its very easy for him to accept things without being bothered by it - he accepts that edward loved bella and realizes the moment he sees them and he doesn't start wondering about stuff like how he can be close and shit.

he is very loyal to the people he loves and he trusts them with his life. he is loving but not the in way that most people assume you would be.
he isn't touchy and feely all the time, its more emotional then anything. its not that he doesn't show how he is feeling he just kind of doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve or anything. claudia means the world to him and he would to anything for her. he loves her more then he has known he was capable of loving someone and she is pretty much his reason for living. he enjoys that she depends on him because he likes knowing someone needs him and counts on him and wants him to be around all the time. he understands love easier then some and like i said before, he knows right away that edward feels the way about bella that he feels about claudia and he understands it and doesn't question it. he respects people and doesn't try to force things on them. he respects anyone who loves to learn and who is intelligent and even if he doesn't like you, he is still civil and weirdly nice because he just isn't a mean guy in general. etienne doesn't get angry with people, like i said. for him it takes so much effort. i mean, in general. however if someone threatened those he cared about he would be willing to put the effort into killing someone and being angry, you know what i mean? it takes a lot to get him angry and he gets over things really easily. he doesn't like holding grudges or being angry for stupid reasons and it takes a lot to make him dislike you to a point where he won't forgive you. he is a really forgiving person and he always has been.

etienne doesn't like fighting unless it is necessary because after all the fighting he did in his human life he thinks its the way people who can't have intelligent conversations are made to communicate. he would rather use his intelligence and ability to be patient to get his point across. he doesn't use his powers to make people hurt or anything even though he could and he doesn't believe in causing people unnecessary pain. he is still a loyal catholic. for him, being a vampire only strengthened his belief in god because if he could exist, if he could rise from the dead, then why couldn't there be angels or heaven? he knows that religion has never been a good thing for claudia so he doesn't talk about it much, he just wears a cross around his neck. like edward, he once thought that perhaps he was souless, but then he realized he couldn't love someone the way he loved claudia if he had no soul to begin with.

HISTORY }}
born in paris france, in 1805, etienne was not born into a wealthy family. his father was a blacksmith and his mother was a home maker. he had several siblings, three sisters and two brothers, and they got by as best they could with the money they had. etienne aspired to be a poet but in revolutionary france that wasn't exactly something he could just decide to be. he took after his father, and was on the road to becoming a blacksmith like his father and his grandfather. on his off time he loved to read to learn new things and he was always interested in school and learning. however he could hardly afford to go to a hire a tutor and so he taught himself most of what he knew. he didn't go to school past the age of eleven and he taught himself math and latin on his own at home. he was a well liked boy and he had many suitors, even at the young age of only seventeen. his parents wanted him to marry into wealth as he was the oldest and best choice from all his siblings. he didn't love anyone however.
he found the girls of nobility to be dull and boring and stupid, and there was no way his parents would support a courtship with someone just as poor as them. he was raised as a loyal catholic and even after he was changed he remained so. he began to work with his father at a young age, becoming the second in charge at his fathers shop at only sixteen.

he didn't have time to fall in love and his parents didn't support his poetry and art. they thought it was girl thing to do, useless and mundane. he pretended to agree and only wrote in secret. he always loved the arts and one night, a client of his fathers invited them to the opera. she was named roise, a woman who he wouldn't meet again for another three years but we will get back to that. he worked and taught himself in secret. his passion was always the arts and even though girls seemed to find him rather endearing (his quiet, gentlemanly demeanor), he wasn't interested in any of them. the one girl who he was enthralled with was roise. he became a solider and fought in many of the battles, avoiding death more then he should have. he seemed to have extraordinary good luck and he returned in one piece at the age of twenty three. injured, he ended up in a hospital where he met none other then the mysterious roise. he thought he was in love with her - and she couldn't have hoped for anything more. she spent time taking care of him and eventually turned him. she very badly desired for him to be her mate, her partner, her other half to share her eternity with. there was something there though, that would not allow him to be that for her. he loved her, yes, but not in the way she had hoped and there was some part of him that knew deep down there was someone else out there for him already waiting. he was sorry of course, and he felt bad, but she acted like it didn't bother him. she was still very possessive over him and she hoped he would change his mind and grow to love her over time. he didn't like killing humans and he yearned for an alternative. he didn't like killing because he had done so much as a human. she didn't like it much either and while it didn't have the same emotional effect on her as it did on etienne who became depressed, she still wondered if there was another way.

they travelled from paris to budapest, trying to find others like them who desired not to just go around killing humans. after having no success, they followed rumors of an irish coven that still fed but did not kill their victims. they traveled and met iollan and the solas coven. it was then that etienne found what he had been searching for. he found claudia and it was like everything in the world made sense. he'd become this way in order to meet her, he was the way he was to be hers alone, to love her and cherish her and he could not longer hate what he was knowing that because he was a vampire, he had been allowed to find her. he instantly became everything she needed and fell in love with her. this annoyed roise to no end, of course, because insane little claudia was able to get etienne when she had failed. he has been with her ever since, and never looked back. the solas coven traveled to italy for a while and under invitation of aro, met the volturi. they were offered a spot with them and iollan gave them the choice. he had never been one to try and control them even if he had come to love them as his own and they chose to remain with him, obviously. they thanked the volturi and graciously declined, heading to america to see if they could find others and make sense of their aversion to killing humans. they heard rumors of the cullens and made their way to forks, wanting to learn about the cullens and see where they truly fit in the vampire world.
