Does anyone really like him? I don't mean to be rude but I really didn't like him. Gandalf is so much better! All Saruman ever wanted was to be more powerful and be on the winning side (which he obviously thought was Saurons' side).
Anyways, tell me what you think...

Hmm, very interesting topic, Ivory! I can't say that I hate him, as a character he is very cool and well written. As an actual person? No.

A very interesting topic indeed. I'm not big on evil characters, and yes Gandalf is so much better, but Sauruman's character was very well written (who am I kidding? All of Tolkien's characters are well-written!). I see him as someone who was power-hungry, didn't care for the people and races of Middle-Earth, and seeped in greed. Which, I think, is sometimes how people are today.

O yes, definitely a well written character! My main reason for not liking him is for when he threw Gandalf around with his staff and put him at the top of the tower. The poor old man tongue.gif

I actually like villains but there was nothing to like about Saruman. Obviously he was a well written character and he played by the only person who could have played him but I didn't like him.
