Title: What shoes do you wear w/ breeches?
Noel - May 6, 2012 09:42 PM (GMT)
Kind of a weird question, but... at the summer horse shows I usually show early in the morning and then generally hang around at least part of the day to watch my friends show. It's usually seven billion degrees and I don't like wearing my show boots around once I'm done showing, but tennis shoes or just paddock boots look really weird with breeches. I'm way too lazy to change into jeans. So what kind of shoes do you wear with breeches when you're walking around a horse show? Usually there's a lot of walking and it's sandy/dusty, plus there's horses, so I don't want really flimsy shoes.

usually just gym shoes, occasionally paddock boots. it does look kind of funny, but it seems to be what everyone wears.

this is why i wear boot socks, i had them all in pretty colors :igor: id wear old sneakers/running shoes with knee high boot socks (i had pink ones and green ones and blue ones) and it doesnt look as weird as just breeches & normal shoes :D
crocs would work well with boot socks over breeches too! theyd be nice and airy for the summer.

I'm an all boots all the time person around horses. Horses have big feet and are heavy and I value my feet. I've got a friend who rides at a place where they all hang around in flip flops. When I went to visit her last summer, she had a giant and nasty looking gash spanning the right side of her right foot - she had gotten stepped on while wearing flip flops. And all I could think was "that's cuz you're stupid." Well that and "OMG HAD TO HURT SO BADLY."
So yeah. I'd say no to crocs, even if you won't really be around the horses. idk. It's just one of those things that absolutely terrifies me.
I only put my show boots on for my classes and then switch to my other paddock boots, but I also ride in kentucky jods at shows slash if I'm not wearing jeans though, so paddock boots look fine. Some of my friends have even started wearing paddock boots with skinny jeans, which is similar to doing it with breeches (kind of).

^ Interesting point RE the breeches/skinny jeans. My show breeches are kind of short though (that's what I get for not buying Longs, haha) so they end at mid-calf and look really stupid with paddock boots since there are a few inches of skin showing!

zocks! i forgot to put that in my post. but i always wear my fun patterns because it feels weird to have skin showing. looking crazy > looking poorly dressed right?

I keep my long socks on and wear my track-ish type shoes. They aren't as bulky as tennis shoes but they protect my feet.

I rock the long socks and tennis shoes look - since I wear long socks under my riding boots/chaps anyhow. When I'm done I just slip on my other shoes and wonder about. Nobody bats an eyelid :P

I also wear boot socks and tennis shoes. Looks weird, but just about everyone at horse shows is wearing that if they don't have their show boots on, so you blend in ;)

I'll usually throw my Romeos on..which looks ridic.

Another one who wears long socks and running shoes. Or ankle socks. In all sorts of cool colours and patterns. I put my socks over the bottoms of my jods.

I normally have some lucky Zocks on ;) so I wear shoes from these options....
-Dansko's they are comfy as hell and look way better than tennis shoes in my opinion. A lot of people around here where them. And you can get neutral browns/blacks or funky cute ones.
-Dubarry's or similar knock-offs.
-Wellies
-Bogs... the shoe version. Super comfy.
... But my personal favorite is Sperry's! :) They look nice, keep your feet cooler than boots, but they are still leather shoes and offer slightly more protection than tennis shoes or flip flops.

I either wear my Sperrys or my old toms...

I just wear leather boat shoes (similar to Sperry's, I guess, but mine are Colorado brand?). They comfy/good for walking but sturdy and don't look totally silly. They're actually part of the 'uniform' for most studs at the Thoroughbred sales because of the above reasons (and they look smart!).

wellies if it's wet/muddy or sperrys!

i am now trying to justify those dubarry knockoffs...

bahaha me too! I keep looking at them going, "but, but, they'd be so useful..."
