Title: REGARDING CHARACTERS & PLOTS

QUINN PUCKERMAN - August 19, 2010 02:57 AM (GMT)
[DOHTML]
It has recently come to my attention that the amount of drama, both in characters' pasts and currently here on the site, has become a little extreme. While things such as rape, abuse, overdosing, suicide, murder, etc., very clearly do happen in real life, I would like to remind you to keep in mind what is realistic and necessary for your characters. First and foremost, this is a Glee roleplay, which is far different from shows like Degrassi and Skins when it comes to the dramatic lives of teenagers. At the same time, we're also set (for the most part) in a relatively pleasant and boring small town. Realistically, the number of average people going through the average drama of everyday life would far outnumber the amount of people harboring pasts of extreme domestic violence or people currently dealing with other such sensitive issues in such close proximity to each other.

I realize drama is fun and an integral part of the roleplaying experience, but it is possible to have fun and create plots without going to such extreme, melodramatic lengths on such a regular basis. I won't kill your creativity and say you can't roleplay these things, but I do request that you keep the setting and theme of the site in consideration when you're creating your characters and plots. When you're creating your characters, ask yourself if it's really necessary that they have a super-dramatic past, or if it'd be possible to play the same character with a normal past. Are you doing it just to make the person interesting? When you're plotting, are you only coming up with this over-the-top drama simply for the sake of drama? If so, try going down another path; it may surprise you what fun you find there. And remember - we're roleplaying in the Glee universe, which isn't exactly portrayed as a gritty, dark place.
