Sometimes you don't have enough to say about a movie to give it its own thread so here's the place where you can talk about what you've seen recently and give brief reviews/opinions. If a movie gets a bunch of discussion, we can split it off into its own thread.

Indy 4 was, for the most part, cracking good fun. But the "plot" (such as it was) resolution was so stupid it almost ruined the entire movie for me. LOL INTERDIMENSIONAL SPACE ALIENS WHUT. Also, The Beef still annoys me. And some of the CGI was terrible. But Harrison and Karen were A+++++++. Indy/Marion OTP! And Cate Blanchett was hilariously and awesomely over the top. love.gif Overall, I'd give it a solid B.

I liked Indy 4 a lot, though I agree with Annie about the ALIENS WHUT. Also, city of gold? Hello stealing from National Treasure 2 much? But I still loved it. I'm not looking for Oscar material here, just fun. And in that respect, this movie totally delivered.

I actually like Shia LaBeouf so when I went to see this with my mom, I crushed on him and my mom crushed on Harrison Ford. Indiana Jones IV: Fun For The Whole Family.

So yeah, i saw SATC on opening night, complete with three girlfriends and lots of cosmos. Sue me tongue.gif

It was... really cute, and pretty much just like the show. It was also loooooooong, but where some folks have complained about the extended Carrie's-closet fashion shows and other assorted filler, i thought it was cute and fluffy and entertaining. I liked it a lot; i cried a little in a couple of spots, as i figured i would, and i laughed my head off probably more than expected. Basically, if you liked the show, you'll like the movie; if you didn't buy into the whole SATC thing, then skip it. It didn't really go much deeper than the show does, so it's really just one long-ass episode. But it's summer, and the shoes were fabulous, and the clothes were vintage SATC, so to me? Couldn't ask for more.

Iron Man was HOT. Robert Downey Jr. is HOTHOTHOT. The post-credits scene was made of Supreme Awesomeness.

I finally got around to seeing Iron Man, and while I liked it, I didn't think it was the end all be all of summer action movies like some people have been raving. I thought Robert Downey Jr. was an inspired choice to play Stark (and very good in the movie), and don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but overall, *shrug*

It was similar to my feelings regarding Batman Begins. Batman Returns (with Michael Keaton) is still my fav Batman movie, and while I enjoyed Batman Begins, I didn't find it to be as orgasmic a viewing experience as most people. Don't these moviegoers remember the Tim Burton days of Batman??

[Don't read below if you want to avoid Iron Man spoilers]

Having said that, the last scene of Iron Man was MADE OF win, and Samuel L. Jackson makes everything badass. EVERYTHING.

Well, I've had crappy luck with DVDs lately.

Superbad: Misogynistic shit. I couldn't make it past 30 minutes, despite my deep love for Michael Cera. I had issues with the way the female characters were written and talked about by the male characters in Knocked Up (which is why I will always love Katie Heigl for speaking up about it) but that was nothing compared to this. Judd Apatow and co. really need a few swift kicks in the nuts.

Year of the Dog: This wasn't bad, per se, just not what I expected. It was a lot weirder and more depressing than I thought it would be. Molly Shannon was really good but, I don't know, it just left me cold and a little bit disappointed.

Also, my Netflix copy of Shoot 'Em Up is cracked so I have to send it back and wait for a new one. Hrmph.

My crappy luck with DVDs must've earned me so good karma with theatrical releases because OMFG you guys, Iron Man is made of 100% delicious awesomesauce. I know I'm late but still. It was A+++++++++! Addded bonus: this was the first movie of hers that didn't make me want to punch Gwyneth Paltrow in the face. \o/ love.gif

ETA: Just read Marile's comment earlier in the thread. Hee, whatevs. My OTT gushing still stands. tongue.gif

Annie, I was never as crazy about Knocked Up and Superbad as everyone else seems to be either, but Judd's new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall is absolutely hilarious. I didn't really have the highest expectations of it (I just went to see it for Kristen Bell *shamelessly girlcrushes* ), but I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't purely "guy humor" like the other movies and I thought that women were written much better. Of course, this has less to do with Judd and co. and more to do with Jason Segel, but whatever, it's still worth seeing. The movie was also very well acted. I loved Mila Kunis in this, and Kristen ( love.gif ) managed to make Sarah pretty likable. But I might be a bit biased.

Shoot 'Em Up: ENDLESS LOLZ. And I mean that in the good way. This movie has actually no redeeming social or artistic value but holy cats is it FUN. I can almost imagine thE conversations Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti had each morning when filming:

CO: 'Morning.
PG: Same to you.
CO: Seen the pages for today?
PG: Yep.
CO: Looks like we're going to be trying to blow the shit out of each other again.
PG: Yep.
CO: ...
PG: ...
CO: biggrin2.gif
PG: biggrin2.gif biggrin2.gif

Hee.

Vanity Fair: Gorgeously filmed and acted movie and I really enjoyed it. The happy ending and more sympathetic portrayal of Becky Sharp was a bit jarring but it didn't bother me too much. And I liked Reese Witherspoon a lot as Becky but I didn't totally buy her as English. She's just got too much of an American essence about her.
