After 5 years, somebody not named Evan Lysacek or Johnny Weir won the men's US championship. Congratulations, Jeremy Abbott! Both your short and free programs were amazing and you are cuter than a sack of puppies. love.gif

Is it just me or is Evan Lysacek just unbearable hot? As in, I have to fan myself when I see him on television or in pictures.

I caught some of the Trophee Eric Bompard on TV yesterday and I'm so happy Adam Rippon won the bronze. I think he's got a good shot at medaling at Nationals this season and making the Olympic team. Now that Lysacek and Weir are practically old men, Rippon is positioned to be a huge player in the men's field for the US over the next few years. Also, he's adorable. Look at him! He's like a precious wood nymph. love.gif

I'm also thrilled Tomas Verner won the silver at TEB. Flove him and I hope he does well at the Olympics, although he has a history of choking in big comps.

He's baaaaaack! In his quest for more Olympics glory, Yevgeni Plushenko returned to training this year. His first competition of the season was this week's Cup of Russia (one of the Grand Prix events), where he won gold. I watched his free program and, like 4 years ago, his jumps and spins are amazing and garner him a shitload of points but his footwork and artistry still blows. Welcome back, Plushy! I hope you fall a lot in Vancouver. evillaugh.gif

Johnny Weir came in 4th, FYI.

Ah, yes. He of the wondrous nose.

I always thought he looked like he should be in ABBA or something. And then a quick trip to wiki confirmed that he actually sang and skated for Russia in the Eurovision song contest. Yes, you read that right. Sang AND skated.

Has anyone down there been following Canada's Battle of the Blades, reality show cheesiness + figure skating FTW? Kurt Browning and Hockey Night In Canada host Ron McLean host it and it pairs ex-NHL hockey players with former champion female figure skaters doing pairs routines a la skating with the stars, except with GIANT HOCKEY PLAYERS, many of whom, like Bob Probert and Tie Domi, used to be mostly thugs. I have seen a few eps when visiting my mom and it's actually quite fun, though I hate reality shows too much to watch it regularly. Despite my ENORMOUS and almost life-long love for Kurt Browning. I heart him so hard.

Rick Mercer, a comedian on the CBC, visited for a segment on his show and Tie Domi showed him around. Skating was involved. For a good laugh, click here.

so basically Battle of the Blades is the reality version of "The Cutting Edge"? Also, I can never look at Plushy skate without hearing Dick Button yelling about how we've all been bamboozled in my head.

Isn't Dick Button the one who always complains that the female skaters "stick out their fannies" when doing their spirals? He cracks me up.
