Forum Problem Reports

Is something not working right on the forum? Post any technical bugs and related issues here and we'll do our best to fix them. However, be aware that we're not expert tech gurus and as a very last resort we may be forced to say, "Sorry, dude, we can't figure out the problem so you're SOL."

This thread is just for technical issues. It's not for reporting problematic threads or posters. Please read the Forum Rules to see how you can report something like that.

I'm having problems getting the View New Posts feature to work. If anyone else is also having this issue please let me know. If it's just me I'll suck it up and deal but if it's a widespread problem I'll see if I can get some help in the IF help forums.

Hey Annie, i know it's been a while since you posted and maybe the problem has resolved for you, but i can't seem to get the View New Posts link to work for me either -- everytime i click it, it just tells me there aren't any (well, i get the error message to that effect). But actually wandering around, i can see that there are plenty. Boo!

No, the problem is still unresolved for me and it's totally random. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes one or two threads with new posts will show up but not all of the ones with new posts, and sometimes I'll get the error message like you've gotten. WTF?

I did drop the ball on researching the bug on the IF support boards, so I'll do that this week.

I can't get the view new posts thing to function either.

I've noticed that there's no strikethrough button. I know there's probably not a way to add it, but thought I'd double check. I will miss the effortless snark that a strikethrough button facilitiates.

We don't have the button for it here but the option is still available! You just have to type it in manually. The code for strikethrough is [ s ]your struck text here[/ s ]. You just need to remove the spaces to have it show up, like so:

As for the View New Posts bug, I'm trying to find some help but it's slow going. IF had a datacenter outage last weekend and the search feature on their support forum is turned off while they make sure everything is totally back up and running. It's taking me a while to slog through all of the threadsthe trying to find what I need.

However, IF recently bought out ZetaBoards and IF users have the option of converting. ZB has better security, more features and fewer bugs so I think I may put our board into the queue to be converted. Better now while we don't have that many posts, just in case some data is lost. But all of the other conversions seem to be going well so I think it'll be okay, although I'll probably have to find and install a new skin since I believe this one only works with IF. Anyway, I haven't totally made up my mind yet but I'll let y'all know if I decide to convert.

Any luck with this Annie? I notice that it's pretty random in terms of what it choses to grab as new posts if anything at all... it's a little frustrating as it's how I streamline my visits here...

Hey Jac! Unfortunately, the IF support board search engine is still down and there are just way too many threads to comb through manually. I've tried a few Google searches but no luck. I can't give an ETA on when (or if) this issue will be fixed - sorry!

One tip that may help: if you go to the bottom of the main forum page there are three links right above the Board Statistics. Click on the Today's active topics link and that will bring up any threads that have had new posts in the last 24 hours. Of course, it's not that useful if you don't visit the forum every day but when you can, it works just as well as the view new posts feature.

I know a lot of the forum graphics are not loading. I don't know what's going on with that but I'm looking into it.
