This is where a lot of the action goes on. All four houses are crammed into one large room, so there's bound to be a bit of mingling between students. Throwing food is generally risky since the professors have a table overlooking the entire hall.

Located beneath the castle is an intricate maze of dimy lit tunnels. It's all too easy to take a wrong turn. Slytherins don't seem to have a problem finding their way down here, which is why it's considered their territory.

Constructed beneath the lake, the only natural light that manages to gets through the high-set windows is a cold green glow. The curtains and armchairs are velvet green to match the carpet, while the large central sofas are made of supple black leather.

Hufflepuff Common Room
Just a short walk from the Entrance Hall is the Hufflepuff safe haven. The room is circular and decorated in deep gold and canary yellow. The space is welcoming and comfortable and is happens to be located extraordinarily near to the kitchens.

Privacy is impossible to find unless you're in Classroom Eleven. Or a broomcloset. But Classroom Eleven is by far roomier and more adequetly suited for practicing magic, holding secret meetings, or just a bit of snogging.

The Fat Lady's portrait has always hung in front the entryway to the common room and she hasn't lost any of her elegance either. The well-known scarlet and gold colours decorate every inch of the room, from curtains to carpet to chairs.

Astronomy classes are held in the middle of the night throughout the week. If you're lucky enough to have climbed all those stairs to find the balcony is empty, the only thing left to do is sit back and have a gander.

Ravenclaw Common Room
Up in one of the towers is the Ravenclaw common room, decorated elegantly in shades of blue. The room is quite messy, actually, with books and class notes and homework strewn about everywhere. Intelligent conversation is easy to find here.

There are literally hundreds of owls that utilize the tower during the year. At least half of them are owned by the more privileged students of the school, but those without delivery means are entitled to the school's barn owls.

Complete with stone benches and a flowing fountain, the courtyard is only just around the corner from the Hogwarts Express platform. It's a nice out-of-the-way place to meet a friend or wait for the train.

Hogwarts castle sits on the edge of a vast lake. It's as deep as it is wide, and can look exceptionally intimidating at times. Swimming is permitted. If you feel anything against your toes it's probably just the Giant Squid.

This is arguably the hottest spot on the school grounds. Whether you made your house team or not the Quidditch Pitch is availible for anyone to use. Check to make sure there isn't a team practice first to avoid disappointment.

Greenhouses
Another safe hide away to conduct meetings and snogging sessions, the Greenhouses are (surprise, surprise) also used for classes! You may want to keep away from the more exotic-looking plants though. They're usually dangerous.

Hogsmeade
Signed permission is required for students third year and above to visit the wizarding village. Trips haven't been limitted to weekends (yet). The train leaves frequently on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday, but not so often through the week.

Diagon Alley
It's the number one stop for all things school-related. As far as scheduling goes, the Hogwarts Express only makes four trips to and from the castle on weekends. Students are allowed to visit the Alley during the school year - just not for very much longer.

It goes without saying that while Diagon Alley is open to students, Knocturn Alley is not. It also goes without saying that students can't help but wander down Knocturn Alley despite it clearly being off limits.
