1. it's september 1978.
2. the marauder's have graduated. they're all out of hogwarts and are coping with adulthood.
3. the prophecy concerning harry potter and voldemort has not been made yet. the prophecy happens in june 1980.
4. peter pettigrew is still faithful to the order. he has not switched sides yet because there is no prophecy and voldemort has no use for him.
5. snape's still a full-blown death eater in love with a mudblood. he won't change sides until he realizes lily is at risk because of the prophecy. for more on how he's handling his love for lily, read the spy who loved me subplot
6. voldemort's reign of terror is very high. his ascension began in 1970 but the death eaters existed for nearly twenty years before this. they were also called the knights of walpurgis until 1964.
7. the red-headed weasley family that we all know and love is already started. molly and arthur have married and molly has gave birth to bill, charlie, percy, fred and george.
8. an appeal to end house slavery took place in 1973. this appeal was defeated.
9. the bill which allows aurors to use unforgivables has been passed. it was passed half a year ago.
10. in 1975, regulus black became enamored with Voldemort and his Death Eaters; he began saving press clippings then. he is entering his seventh year as of now and has already joined the death eaters at the age of sixteen much to the pleasure of his parents. for this reason, regulus is included in this rp, juggling every day student life and sneaking out to go to meetings. of course, he acts as a spy on upcoming students, on whats happening at hogwarts and so on.
11. muggles have felt the wrath of the death eaters. there's been a lot of mysterious deaths and obliviators have been hard at work keeping muggles forgetting some stuff they've seen. of course, not all muggles come out into the open with what they've saw and some who do have been accused of doing drugs or being insane by fellow muggles.
12. augustus rookwood has successfully become a spy within the ministry of magic as an unspeakable. some suspect him but those are the small people who don't hold enough power to do anything about it.
13. voldemort has made five horocruxes so far, plus himself.
