detroit, michigan. one of the most dangerous cities in the country but home of some of the greatest musicians the nation has ever known, too. most prominently, detroit punk. and, at the center of that scene, is demon corpse records, the label that seems to be signing all of the hottest musicians, these days.

think you've got what it takes?

It was something that everyone loved about him. He was always able to make someone stop and think about things the way that he saw them. So many people wanted to see the world the way that he did but they had no idea what he really saw. While some called it innocence, he preferred to call it insanity. Think about it, no child would do some of the naughty things he did and he didn't always question like a child did. No, it wasn't childlike innocence. For all intents and purposes, it was pure, unbridled insanity - all wrapped up in a cute package. "I'd take a ferret but those things smell. Chinchillas are so small... I'd either lose it or sit on it one day and squash it but man are they fluffy!" Kittens weren't exactly outdoor creatures, either. Dogs grew up out of their cuteness into things of beauty but that would probably be his best bet. He wanted something tiny and fluffy and, if it grew up into something big and fluffy, that was cool with him. Mostly, he was in it for the fluff. Then again, cats weren't so bad. It wouldn't kill him to have company in the house when Trinity was out and he was alone.

Regardless of what anyone said, they would blame themselves. Asa couldn't see it being Bobby's fault and Bobby wouldn't let it be Asa's. In the end, they were more than a little hopeless. Having been shut out from the rest of the world, it just seemed to stand to reason that he'd lost his ability to take what people said and deal with it at the drop of a hat. Usually, he put it away to process later but he just couldn't do that these days. Oh, he hoped Willa was free when he got done with this because he was going to need to bury his head in someone's lap. "I don't think it counts when rock stars trash their own stuff. You never see them bust up a guitar, anymore." He had to keep talking, stay focused on the topic at hand. If he could get through that, he'd be solid. He just had to keep things away from talking about them and they'd be good.

He was such an idiot. Why had he done that? Just spill his guts to the guy when he was clearly over it all. He'd moved on and found other interests, he'd offered friendship. What did Asa do? He threw it back in Bobby's face and brought up the past like it was all okay and just some casual event. He wanted to run away from the scene but he forced his legs to move slow enough that it was just a brisk walk. Running away would seem stupid, over dramatic, and immature. Wait... Wasn't that him? He rubbed at his eyes, wiping away the water that was building up in his attempt to be a bit more grown up than what he felt like. He didn't need to cry over this, that was stupid. He couldn't breathe but he figured that was just in his head. His chest hurt but, once he was back on the bus, he could focus on that and only that. Having not heard Bobby call out to him, he gave a soft noise of surprise and jumped when he was yanked around to face the man. That wasn't a good thing to do, it brought back memories. If it had been anyone else, he probably wouldn't have moved past it as quickly but he didn't think that Bobby would hit him for his words. Asa watched him, trembling where he stood. When Bobby finally looked down at him, he had to lower his eyes to stare at the collar of his shirt. It was better for his attention to be there than anywhere else. He looked up and drew a breath to interrupt and correct Bobby but he thought better of it. There was no point in telling him that he'd never said he didn't want him around, he'd pretty much already said that. Asa blinked and confusion filled his features. Take him out to dinner? Was he asking...? "I... I don't understand what you're asking." Asa had just told him that he couldn't just pal around and, now, he was asking to go chill at the movies like it was no problem.

Bobby couldn’t help but just grin at Asa as he spoke about what kind of animal he would like. It didn’t surprise him at all that he was going for some kind of creature with lots of fluff, Bobby couldn’t really picture him with a Rottweiler or something of that nature. ”While on tour we met this dude with a chinchilla. It only had one eye and it was the creepiest thing ever, seriously.” It had been disturbing to see this creature with only one eye in its head and the other one all shut up and obviously missing something to keep the eyelid from sinking in. It had turned him off those creatures for life. Bobby himself had been considering a pet lately. One that wouldn’t be too difficult to take with him on tour when they were out. As odd as it might seem, he’d been seriously thinking about getting a rabbit. The things were cute as heck, easy to feed since they ate a lot of human food and who didn’t like bunnies? Seriously?

Bobby made a face. ”I’ve never seen the pleasure in busting up your own guitar. I’m a crazy man when it comes to my bass, I blow a fuse if it so much as gets a scratch on it let alone smashing it on the floor and destroying it.” Sure, doing that was all for the show and impressing fans with how ‘hardcore’ you were, or how free from reigns and rules. Bobby had pretty much seen that sort of thing as idiotic. If you smash it, that means you have to go buy a new one, who had the money as a starter band to just go out and buy a new guitar because you’d smashed your old one on the stage? Not little bands, that was for sure. Maybe once you made it it was a way of saying, hey look, we’ve still got our rocker spirit. He still didn’t see the point.

Well someone had had to do it, finally talk about what had gone and, say something that let the two of them know they were sort of on the same page with what the other was feeling but both too awkward or misunderstanding of the other to mention it. Bobby had only offered friendship because he felt that was what Asa wanted. Their past fling had left to him landing in the hospital and then in a psych ward, who would want to be around Bobby in anything other than a very tentative friend sort of way after that? He hadn’t meant to startle him, not in any way. And he felt sorry for having done so but he pressed on, wanting to take that sadness away from Asa’s face. Not wanting to be the reason for another tear coming from those beautiful blue eyes that could nearly take his breath away. As Asa questioned his comments, Bobby could have kicked himself for his incoherency. What was it about Asa that made him jumble everything and lose his ability to speak properly? Bobby scratched at his jaw and couldn’t help shaking his head at himself, a self-mocking smirk coming over his lips for a moment before he was pressing on. Let’s try this again shall we, and perhaps a little more clearly? ”You don’t want to be just friends, and honestly I only said I just wanted to be friends because I thought that was all you’d want from me now.” How could he have expected more, all things considering. ”So let me take you on a date... A real one.” His dark eyes were watching Asa’s face closely for any sign of how he was going to take this now that he’d actually come right out and plainly said it. Bobby had no idea how anyone would take any of this should Asa say yes. Trinity would likely want to kick his ass for getting involved with her brother again, Willa would more than likely try and join in. But he didn’t care, he missed Asa and he wanted to know what this was between them. He needed to know. Because after all these months and after everything that had happened, his interest in him hadn’t waned.

The type of animal you chose said a lot about you. While he wasn't very fluffy, he was adorable and cuddly. At least, that was what Willa said about him. He'd been considering getting his own place, a small loft that could use everything in the place as a prop in any of his shoots where he could be up and moving around at all hours and not worry about waking his sister. She'd still be close but they could live their own lives, as it should be. For her, this was a good move because, then, she could have whatever guy she wanted over or have her chick friends over for slumber parties or whatever met her fancy. He was a big boy and college partying was appealing to him and his friends were wanting to hang out but he didn't want them over too extremely late, just for her sake. With wide eyes of excitement, Asa began bouncing at the visual image he now had in his head. "They should have given him an eye patch! He could have been the first mate! Do chinchillas growl? He could have been all "Arrrrrrgh"." Yeah, that was one way to look at it, Asa...

Asa shrugged. "It'd be like me smashing my camera against a brick wall and calling it a- ahhh!" Leave it to Bobby to inspire him. "That would totally work, too. Buy an old, cheap camera and photograph me smashing it against a wall? How cool would that be?!" And, then, he could call it art. Of course, it wouldn't be one of his nice, expensive ones. He would, definitely, use an old and cheap one but they wouldn't be able to tell too much more from the shattering pieces. He could be the rock star of photography - hardcore and proud sans the idiocy.

If they both wanted something more... Well, Asa wasn't a psychology major so he honestly couldn't tell you what any of that meant but he had his own deductions. Asa didn't think he was incoherent, he just wanted to make absolutely sure so that there weren't any misunderstandings, that was all. His reply had left him blinking, completely unsure of what he should do, next. It was like his mental functions had shut down and he was officially brain dead. Bobby Brandon Savage, bassist of From the Ashes and hot guy extraordinaire wanted to take Asa out on a real date? What did he even do on a date with another male? He knew how he treated girls on dates but he honestly didn't think that he needed to be treated like the girl in this situation. So... what? Just two friends hanging out but with there being something more between them? He was going to have to call Willa up on this one. Wait, he needed to focus. Waiting too long to answer would ruin everything! A smile worked its way onto his lips and Asa tipped his head to the side, looking up at Bobby. "When?"

Well who knows what it said about Bobby then that he wanted to get a rabbit. He didn't put too much thought into what it would seem like, him and a bunny, he just thought it'd be a sweet pet. He liked dogs, but everyone had a dog. He really just wanted something a little different from everyone else, but something that he would still want to pet and play around with. Plus, bunnies hopped. That was totally better than dogs. His bunny would totally beat Harley D's dog walking ass! Bobby just sort of stared at Asa for a moment as he went off on his little tangent about the chinchilla pirate. He opened his mouth to reply and then shut it, raising a hand to scratch at his head as he lowered it, chuckling a little as he tried to decide how best to respond to all of that. Finally he looked up and over at Asa, shaking his head a little. ”Chinchilla pirate? Seriously?” He just sort of grinned, head still shaking a little. ”Where do you even come up with these?” He teased him, a true grin spreading across his lips. You never could be certain about what would come out of him, which was half the fun of being around him.

Bobby’s eyes widened a little at Asa’s sudden, excited exclamation. ”Actually, gotta say it would be pretty cool. You should definitely take that picture and then I’ll buy it and brag about how I was there when the concept was conceived.” He smirked softly, brushing his fingers through the newly cut poof of hair on top of his head. Bobby inspire? Really? He didn’t really see himself as muse worthy. Though everyone had their occasional influence he supposed.

Bobby watched Asa carefully after he stated quite plainly that he wanted to take him on a date. He watched, and he waited. He was starting to get a little worried that Asa had completely changed his mind and was about to tell him no, not in his wildest dreams when he finally tipped his head in that adorable way that he had and smiled. The smile made Bobby smile and he took it for a good sign. ”Um, how about Friday night? Does that work for you?” He suggested, his mind suddenly raking over all the possibilities of places to take him. Where should they go? What should they do? He wanted it to be a nice place but not too stuffy either, or too fancy. He liked good food and he didn’t want to take him to McDonalds or something crummy like that. But it had to be the right place, for both of them. Neither of them had done this before and it was a big step. Asa was finally going to get to be treated like the other men in his life should have treated him, and Bobby was going to be seen in public on his first official man date since the whole thing with the attack and him coming out. ”I can pick you up around 6:30? Maybe start with some dinner first?” That sounded okay right? He had to admit it’d been a while since he’d actually taken someone out on a date. That was sad, but the truth. When had he become so completely such a sleaze? Wow... instead of evolving he’d literally begun deteriorating in his decency levels. Well, now was the time to start correcting some of that deterioration.

If that question was posed to Asa, he could have fun answering it but, fortunately, no one asked him for his opinion. It was hard to find a domesticated pet that was original. The list was, actually, rather short. He'd probably opt for a cat, if anything. Chinchillas were great and clean and fun but they were ever so tiny. In getting something like a cat, he could play with them but he had to earn their love, too. It wasn't like with a dog. A dog was devoted to you no matter what you did to it. Asa wanted to know that he was loved and that he was loved for a reason. So why not? He'd have to look into that. Of course, between school and work, he didn't want to leave the poor thing at home, alone. That meant it'd need a playmate. Oh, this could be fun... Yeah, okay! So he was a little weird, leave him alone. He had a very active imagination and he thought it was the cutest thing, ever. If Bobby couldn't roll with that, it was his own problem. "I'm an artist, man. I've got to come up with these things." If he couldn't, he wasn't living up to his choice of occupation and what good did that do for anyone?

Asa nodded and tried to swallow his stomach back down to where it belonged. "Yeah, that works fine. I've got an early Saturday class this semester so early is good." Could someone please tell him why he was feeling like a silly school girl being asked out by the school's quarterback? This was ridiculous. It wasn't as if they hadn't hung out or more in their time together so why was he so worried? "Um... Did you have an idea of what we're doing so I can not look like a freak wherever we go?" He wasn't going to dress up to head to DTs and he wasn't going to wear jeans to a nice restaurant. He usually suggested the locations to his dates and made sure that was okay. At least, then, they knew how to dress but it was okay to keep things a surprise as long as he didn't have to worry about looking silly. He knew that they'd probably get more than enough attention with it just being the two of them going out after everything that had been going on.

His brow rose. ”Class on Saturday? That kinda blows doesn’t it?” But this was good, he had an early class, which meant he needed to be home at a decent hour and Bobby wouldn’t be allowed to misbehave and keep him up late in all sorts of tempting ways. It wasn’t that Bobby didn’t want that again, having already had it, why wouldn’t he? But this time around, he felt like he owed it to Asa to take things a little slower and make this better. Things had ended so terribly the first time, and even though he didn’t know exactly what it was he was wanting out of all of this he knew he couldn’t bear to hurt Asa in that way again. Bobby thought about his question for a moment and then realized he didn’t have a plan about where he was going to take him or what they were going to do. He’d been thrown off balance by Asa’s declaration that he couldn’t just be Bobby’s friend because he wanted more and had acted on his turbulent, mixed emotions.

He raised his hand to brush back through the dark and golden hair. ”I don’t really know just yet.” He offered Asa what he hoped was a charming smile. ”Let me figure it out and I’ll call you.” He grinned once again, humour at himself and his own un-collectedness. He’d never actually taken anyone on a date here in Detroit so he didn’t exactly know where the good date spots were. He knew he didn’t want something as impersonal as a club or just a movie, but maybe a nice dinner at a quite restaurant where they could just talk and maybe spend a little time healing the space between them. Bobby did his best to appear confident and assured despite the way being around Asa tended to leave him feeling unsettled. Not in a bad way, just in an affected way. He couldn’t quite describe it really.
