i said welcome to detroit city
detroit, michigan. one of the most dangerous cities in the country but home of some of the greatest musicians the nation has ever known, too. most prominently, detroit punk. and, at the center of that scene, is demon corpse records, the label that seems to be signing all of the hottest musicians, these days.

He was starting to get better at this whole anger management thing. It was a definite struggle but he was, in deed, improving. No, he wasn't going to some lame ass psychiatrist to do it, either. He was going to the gym, thank you very much. If he wasn't at the studio's gym, he was here, at Mick's. He'd come in and spend about an hour there, punch a bag, lift some weights, do a few laps in the pool. He didn't worry about his cardio too much but that was because he could go running in the city or get his heart rate up by chasing after his son and their dogs. That wasn't the issue. He even brought Levi in. Father and son would mess around with the punching bags and he'd teach the boy how to properly punch and the like for about fifteen minutes before Levi would go play on the jungle gym with his friends in the childcare area. Then, it was down to some real work. He didn't have much form when it came to boxing but that was just how he got his aggression out, anyway. He'd proven that he could fight, over and over again he'd proven it. He didn't have any real style to his fighting but he could hold his own. It felt good to punch something and not worry about breaking a bone or three in your hand. Sometimes, when he was really stressed out, he'd imagine it was the face of an enemy to help work out every bit of annoyance that he had within him so that he didn't have anything left in him when he was done.
When his arms were so tired, he couldn't lift them anymore, Ash moved over to the bench with his water bottle and towel. The sweaty tee he'd been wearing was starting to sting his fresh tattoo on his back and he pulled it off, over his head, and balled it up to put it to rest on the bench beside him. He sat there and caught his breath, drinking water and watching some of the fighters go at it in the ring. If he thought he'd be allowed to do such a thing, he probably would have signed up for it. The problem was that fighters had to deal with injury to the face and there were bruises that Willa probably wouldn't approve of and Levi wouldn't understand. It was weird, making decisions based on others when he'd been so used to just doing whatever he wanted. When did he become so whipped? It was pathetic, really. He understood that people would be concerned about it but it was sanctioned and permitted. That wasn't such a bad thing, was it? Eh, who had time to box, anyway? He was throwing himself into his work, more and more. He really couldn't be bothered.

Jamie had stopped by the gym next door to Hammons and joined up not long after she had arrived, and often found herself in here at this kinda time when it was quiet. She didn't go much into running or cardio either, but did love kick-boxing and had done for quite some time, since she was about fourteen and had signed up at the local community centre back in Texas. A pair of fairly battered black gloves covered her hands, her long dark curls tied up in a ponytail with a black band, though tendrils had begun to fall into her beautiful face. A pair of little black shorts left little to the imagination, along with a white, figure hugging training top which ended just below her chest, revealing the little butterfly tattoo ‘s on her ribcage, the butterflies disappearing beneath her top. The Latina’s body was toned and tanned, but not ripped by any means- she wasn’t at all into that look. She was working with one of the guys from the garage, he held the kick-pads and such for her as she worked out, though he bailed fairly early- he had a new baby at home and a girlfriend who got pissed if he wasn't home at a decent hour- which Jamie could hardly blame the chick for.
She took a break and pulled her gloves off, nodding a goodbye to her friend as he left, and heading over to the water drinker to grab a drink and her towel though she hadn’t really broken a sweat yet- she had only just got started. She was in a better mood this tonight than she had been for a while... sexual tension extinguished for now, and being able to get Sabian out of her head for a few hours was always a good thing. She filled her water bottle and turned to watch the fighting in the ring, a hand resting on the curve of her hip as her other lifted the bottle to her lips. She recognised a lot of the guys from the races and the garage and from Jive, and returned a nod in greeting to one of them. She had settled in well here- it was her kind of place and she liked it, she liked being reunited with her brother too, though she probably wouldn’t tell him as much. She noticed the guy next to her peel his shirt off and instinctively glanced over at him, recognising him she offered a tip of the chin with a slight smirk “Hey.”

Watching the people box was oddly soothing. He almost pictured himself in the ring but the setting was a little different. He wasn't wearing gloves, there were no rules, and he was pounding in the face of that pretty boy bassist that had joined Willa's band. God, he hated that prat. He knew that there was something going on, no matter what Willa said, he just couldn't believe that she was involved with it. How many times had Ash already warned her about the way guys acted and to look out for certain things here and there if they were done? Still, she ignored him and told him that Finn was just a friend? That wasn't possible and he knew that, if she didn't stop it or try to clarify things with Finn to make him realize what was going on and how it looked, she was enjoying it. That very thought was starting to push him towards violence and he was thinking that it might be time to go back to the bag before he moved on to the pool. He wasn't in the mood to sit and pump iron, he needed to be moving, now. Besides, he had a bench back at the loft and Levi loved copying his father. He'd pass the kid the one pound weights and they could work out together. Anything to keep him from having to deal with Willa and her questions. That was, of course, assuming that she was even home. "The band" might have had something to do that kept her from coming home at a decent hour but he was sure he'd hear all about it if he read the next paper...
His eyes were losing focus the deeper he went into his own thoughts and he'd snapped out of it to look at the gym around him just in time to see the gorgeous brunette looking in his direction. There was no mistaking that girl for who she was, her face was pretty unforgettable. "Hey, yourself. How ya been?" Everyone needed a tattoo artist and, since his was in Hawaii, he had to find someone in Detroit. Fortunately, he'd stumbled upon Jamie and she'd been willing to do the work. She'd mentioned that she didn't know how long she'd be in town and that had worried him, a bit, but he also knew that there was a possibility that she'd be sticking around and he liked what she had to offer so he was going to take the risk. Besides, he didn't have too many more tattoos to get. Ash sipped on his water and looked back to the fighters. Five minutes in a ring with Finn and things would be fine. At least... for him and his anger. Finn would disagree and Willa would be furious but she'd get over it. She always did.

She had read the paper- since she had been in it the same week, and after her fury she had glanced over the rest of the crap they printed and had seen his name, of course that had been before she had done his tattoo- but when he told her his name she recognised it from the article. So she knew how inaccurate these things could be- but she wasn't there to make judgements about other people and she didn't buy into gossip rags- she made her own decisions and kept focused on her own life. His tattoo had taken a few hours, and so she’d had the chance to talk to him a fair bit, though it had been at a time when she had been pretty riled and pissed off- she was clearly in a much better mood now. “I’m good... how’s the tat’ doin? Healed up okay?” She assumed if she didn't hear from people they were all good- the only complaints she’d had were when people hadn’t been applying the cream and left the scabs to get dried and sore. His tattoo had looked amazing though- she was proud of her work and wanted to see how it was healing. “Can I see?”
She set her bottle down on the bench and let her fingers run over his damp shoulders to turn him, lingering their absent minded as she checked out her work. “It’s healing really good... You like it?” She asked from behind him, her fingers brushing over it gently. She had herself set up with an apartment now and had all her stuff set up... it still wasn't the shop she wanted, but it wouldn't be long till she got it. Her place was pretty decent, clean and comfortable and quiet, couldn't complain. Wes had offered her a room at the garage if all else failed, but she kinda figured that would look slightly random. She had found plenty of work though since coming here. The word had spread quickly that she was a decent tattoo artist and the fact that she was Jason's sister and Jase was so well known worked in her favour. She had already done Jason a new bit of ink as well as Luke and a couple other guys at the garage, and a load of guys and chicks from the races and Ash of course. Word got around quickly and people who knew people that she’d worked on were calling her and booking appointments. She was fairly busy for the next few weeks between the tats and the work she did for her brother on the cars he worked on. But she preferred to be busy. She had a race later on, so she figured she’d hit the gym and get her adrenaline pumping before heading home to shower and change and then head out. “How’s things?”

He'd read the paper, heard about the paper, been shown the paper... He'd even torn and burned the paper. That thing was no good for him and he was already tired of what his occupation was now bringing him. It wasn't like he hadn't expected people to be in his business but the lies that it was shelling out... The worst part of it all, though, was that he didn't know if they were lies or not. While Sully wouldn't let too many people in on it, he had to admit that his relationship with Willa scared him. He'd never been with someone for nearly two years and he'd never cared about anyone the way he cared about her. He'd even said those three little words that could mean death to a relationship! They lived together, his son looked up to her like a mother, and he hadn't bothered to look around for anyone else for quite some time. Whatever it was that they had, it was epic and it was his first. Sully had always been a playboy. He'd always gone around and sought out whatever woman he wanted, used her for the fun she was worth, and moved on. Now, though, he'd given it all up for this girl who'd never had even a real first kiss until he'd come around. She was getting out there in the world, guys were starting to take notice of her, and she wasn't as dependent upon him as she had once been. What if she was starting to explore her options in men and this paper had caught that? He'd put everything on the line for her and he was starting to wonder if that wasn't a bad idea. She was rarely home anymore, claiming to be doing things with the band. If that was the case, why was it only Finn that he heard about when she came back? She didn't even talk about Asa this much, anymore! He didn't like it but what could he do?
Ash nodded to her questions. Obviously, he knew how to handle a fresh tattoo... Not only had he gotten so many but he also did them. They used to bring in extra cash for anyone interested in getting him to do their work but, now, it was just for friends. He didn't have the time for anyone else and he wasn't opening up his home to strangers while they were working on making it big and he had his son living with him. It just wasn't going to happen. "Not too bad. Itches like a bitch but..." He chuckled and shrugged. He couldn't get to it as well as he would have liked but Levi didn't mind scratching at the tiger for his daddy. He was one weird kid and loved growling at the artwork. "Yeah, sure." Hey, she'd put it there, she could look all she wanted. Swinging a leg over the bench, Ash turned his back to her so that she could see his work full and well, leaning forward to curve his back enough that she could see it to the full extent. "Hell yeah, I like it. My first, real, back piece had to be the best and, since I can't do it myself... My kid said it's awesome, by the way. Guess that means it looks all right," he smirked at the gym equipment in front of him.
Bringing himself back to his original position, Ash nodded again. He wasn't about to unload any of his issues on her. No offense but he didn't know her like that and he wasn't going to whine about his life. He had Bobby for that. Besides, he didn't like talking about a lot of stuff, anyway. He wasn't going to tell her, even if he was having the worse day ever. "Can't complain. Band's doing good, family's pretty decent... Got a roof over my head and all that good shit. Doin' better than most." Really, he couldn't. FTA wasn't doing as well as Twitch but they had their own following and he was having his issues with Willa and this rumor and Levi starting school but he managed. He still had everything he could have asked for in his life and more so he wouldn't start bad mouthing that just yet. "What about you? How's business going? Read about you and Hazard," he said with a roll of his eyes.

Jamie smirked a touch as he told her it itched like a bitch, hers never really bothered her too much as long as she put a ton of cream on it. She glanced over her work for a few moments before letting him turn back around, she always liked to hear that people were happy with her work. It would be a pretty big deal if they weren’t since they’d be stuck with it, but she hadn’t ever had any complaints. “It looks hot, your kids got good taste…” She replied with a confident smirk, wiping her hands on her towel. Sweaty guys were hot and all, but she didn’t want it lingering on her fingers.
Jamie wouldn’t be in the least interested in hearing him whine about his life to be honest- it had been more of a general question than her actually wanting to know his life was. She didn’t even deal with her own issues, let alone anyone else’s, she just let them rot in closets. She nodded as he said the band was good and smirked as he told her he was doing better than most, tearing her golden eyes from the guys in the ring to glance over at him. “Sounds decent.” Her gaze lingered on him as he spoke again. She couldn’t complain either- her life was better now that it had been for a long time. She was back with her brother and had started building a decent cliental base, she had a nice apartment, her bike was hot shit and she was winning everything she raced, and was having some of the most amazing sex of her life. She was pretty god damned satisfied. If only she could get the bastard out of her head and move on. Her smirk faltered as he mentioned Sab though, and she rolled her eyes, though the smirk found its way back onto her beautiful face, though in a tired, knowing fashion rather than amused. “Me and Sabian is just bullshit… the sex is hot but that’s as far as it goes. I figured you’d know better than to believe the shit they put in that thing.” She wasn’t trying to be smart and relating it to the crap she’d read about his girlfriend, she just meant in general she guessed he had plenty of shit written about him, and he wouldn’t probably know that most of it wasn’t based on fact.

Sully put cream on it but he didn't pile it on. He hated the way that it felt on his skin or caused his shirt to stick to his back. It was just something that made the experience unpleasant and he was just glad to know that he was a moderately quick healer and wouldn't have to worry himself with the itching of healing for too much longer. Levi liked "helping" his father our by smearing it over the tiger in an attempt to give it a bath but the poor boy always left far too much on his back and that was just uncomfortable. "Damn right he does," Ash laughed. "He better, He's my boy!" How many fathers got to say that their first was a boy? Not that he wouldn't mind if he had a daughter or two but every father wanted to have a son and this was his first kid. A little early, sure, but he was proud of his son and wasn't ashamed to brag about him.
He nodded. Yeah, it was decent. He was living a better life than most were in these times. He had the opportunities that only others could dream of. It would be ungrateful of him to complain about it, otherwise. Sighing, he shook his head and looked at her from the side of his glance. "I do," he informed her with a raised brow. "Just sayin'. I'm not the only one in the papers, lately. I can't see Sabian taking on anyone as a serious thing, not even a hot tattoo artist." Apparently, that was a rather hot topic to be discussing so it might be best to leave it alone. "How's your brother?" It was a small world when you lived in the same part of the city and had similar interests. Ash had gone to her brother's garage on a few occasions in order to get some work done on his car. It was, actually, how he'd managed to find her as an artist.

Jamie smirked softly as he spoke about his kid. She wasn’t honestly too hot on kids- she had never been around them or understood them really... and she definitely didn’t want any of her own. If you gave her a kid she wouldn’t know the first thing to do with it- and her lifestyle wasn’t exactly accommodating to children. Her life hadn't been easy in the past, but she couldn’t exactly complain about it at the moment. She thought she’d turned out pretty well considering the messed up start she had been given. She glanced over to him and saw the swell of pride in him, and the expression on her face was one of amusement , though she was pretty impressed with how he handled being a father- he certainly seemed to do a better job at parenting than either of her parents did and he had way more going on in his life.
She laughed a little as he told her he couldn't see Sabian settling with anyone. “Are you saying you can see me settling with someone? C’mon now... I know we don’t know each other that well by now but I never figured I gave off the vibe of a soul-mate kinda girl...” She cocked her brow at him in amusement as she slipped her gloved back on and adjusted them, a smirk flickering at her beautiful tanned face. “This ‘hot tattoo artist’ is happy taking her thrills where she pleases thank you.” She dropped him a wink playfully, her demeanour flirty as ever- she was set on showing everyone she wasn't some chick drooling around after Sabian Hazard. She shrugged her shoulders a touch when he asked about her brother, she was grateful that he was putting her name around to his friends, he was catching her a lot of clients. “He’d good I think... got his panties in a twist over some girl though, but you didn't hear it from me.” She knew it, Wes knew it, and the only person who didn’t know it was Jason apparently. She didn't think it was anything serious- it never was with Jason- or her, but she knew him well enough to know he liked her.

Ash had been like that once upon a time. He had never thought of himself as much of a family man but, when introduced to his son, Sully changed his opinion on children and actually looked forward to the opportunity of having more. Not that he was looking to have them anytime soon, though. He had a career to get started on. He had plenty of time to do all that he wanted to do before he had another kid. Sure, Levi would have to deal with being an only child for a while but he was fairly certain that he wouldn't mind too much. After all, that meant that he got to enjoy the perks of being an only child before he had to share his parents with anyone. It might have helped that Ash had helped raise his brother when they were younger, though. It meant that he at least got to understand what went into child care. Life hadn't been the easiest but it had helped him grow up enough to be able to raise a child with confidence so that there were no questions about his ability to raise his son. He'd done enough insane things to last him a while so that he could focus on what was more important in life. It'd been a shock and he'd been in denial about the boy for a while but now, he was proud and more than happy to accept Levi as his son.
Sully laughed at her and shook his head. He couldn't say anything about her but he knew that Sabian wouldn't be the kind of guy so he could only say that he hoped hat she wasn't that way. Even if she was, though, that didn't mean that she saw her future in Sabian. He didn't think she'd been to serious about her words, though. Obviously he didn't know her and he wasn't one to make assumptions about people. In truth, Ash was very careful about the people he put any trust in. He was slow to giving a person the kind of respect that they might deserve just because you could only say so much about someone without knowing the real them. It took time and testing. "Wait... We're talking about the same guy, right? Jason's trippin' over some girl? Since when?" He hadn't heard about that but it was amusing and, at the very least, took his mind off of his own girl for a moment.
