pet peeves, let's talk about them

My mother had palsy when she was a child and parts of her face are still paralyzed. She has a hard time keeping her mouth closed while she chews so it's really loud and gross and makes me want to club baby seals. One night at dinner she gave me an icy stare of death out of the blue and said, in a really condescending tone, "can you not chew so loudly?" I was so taken aback that I just responded with a surprised "excuse me?" She said that it's impolite to make loud chewing noises.

I really need SA's headdesk or suicide emoticon right now...

Kinda reminds me, my sister can't stand the noise of crumpling packages such as chip bags and candies. *laughs*

I however, can't stand the texture of construction paper or licking popsicle sticks. They completely ruin the ice cream! *shutters*

Oh god, I hate popsicle sticks too! No seriously, even since I was a little kid I hated them. The feeling of them on my teeth is just awful. I think part of it is the irrational fear that I'll get a splinter from them but more than that I just hate the feeling of the wooden texture sliding against my teeth. Those Haagen Dasz tiny ones are an improvement, but ice cream sandwiches got it right. No wood, just deliciousness.

You know what genre descriptor needs to die?

"Arena Fighter"

It's a completely assinine term. Why are we even using it to describe games? It doesn't even MEAN anything. I've heard Smash Bros., Castlevania Judgment, Powerstone and Bushido Blade all called arena fighters. That's really weird because none of them play anything like any of the others. It's like someone decided that any fighting game that doesn't play EXACTLY like Street Fighter or Tekken has to be thrown into this one, giant catch all category. Most of these games don't take place in arenas, and don't try to tell me that the main qualifier is that you can pick things up, because Pit Fighter, Samurai Shodown and Street Fighter Alpha all let you pick things up, meanwhile CV Judgment and Bushido Blade don't.

GO TO HELL, ARBITRARY GENRE DISTINCTIONS THAT I DON'T AGREE WITH!

You know what pisses me off? The Madden and Tiger Woods series are both in the so-called "sports" genre, even though football and golf are nothing alike. It's like somebody just decided that any game with a ball where you score points should just arbitrarily get lumped into one category.

I hate it when people decide that out of an entire fucking room the best place for them to be is right by me. Or people who get mad because they can't talk to me when I have headphones on. I mean, can't you see the black wires coming out of my ears? This really pisses me off when I take the time to tell them that I'm wearing headphones and that if they want to talk to touch me or something. Then not 5 fuking minutes later,they start shouting at me.

I also hate people who come up to you to talk and then say "so what do you want to talk about?" not a damn thing that's why I wasn't over there talking to you dumass!

I hate when people wear headphones to a night club. You'd think this doesn't happen often, but it does. I wonder if some of them just forgot they had them in, but we're talking uncomfortable-ass iPod ear buds.

I weep for humanity.

One thing that has occasionally annoyed me is when someone decides to come out of the woodwork, and say that I can't draw worth shit, or even know how to draw at all. While I've never denied the fact that I'm not among the best artists out there, I know the basics of it quite well, and don't need some random troll coming out of the woodwork to flat-out say that I don't know how to sketch a figure or background at all (in all fairness, though, my backgrounds usually suck anyway ^^; ).

Anyway, it's just a minor peeve of mine. Nothing for you guys to worry about.

Heh heh, nothing like that. I'm more into doing original stuff, and some videogame fanart here and there.

One thing I should've mentioned is that while I draw as a hobby, I don't mind getting useful feedback on my pics, or how to improve my style. I might post some stuff in the "Pure Creativity Somehow Bound in a Forum" section here, once I feel like drawing again.

One thing that really annoys me is people talking about their pet peeves.

What doesn't annoy me at all is when people get meta and make a topic go recursive. That amuses me.

You know what I just freaking loooooooooooooooove? Overuse of meta humor and sarcasm. Those are both fucking greeeeaaaaat.

Man, I hate when threads do that.

I hate when my untalented art peers say that, "Art can be anything! It is abstract." to defend their shitty excuse for a piece and their laziness. I understand that art is subjective, but I can tell when someone colored something in 5 minutes before the critique. Don't try to defend that garbage in the name of art, because it is insulting to those who actually give a damn about it. Actual abstract art (Which admittedly is not something I tend to like) does have an incredible amount of thought and concepts placed behind it. And usually artists who go into abstraction can actually FUCKING DRAW IN THE FIRST PLACE. They understand basic art principles and after having that understanding then they are able to go further and play with the ideas. I feel like eating all of the "abstract" art that litters the walls during critiques.

Ugh, I hated that so much in my 2D class a couple years ago. About half the students obviously did their assignments the night before, despite having a week+ to work on it. ><

Same applies to my current photography class. Students are taking their photos that they had weeks to work on, on the day it's f'in due in class!! Asking "What's depth of field???" -are you serious!!! ARGH!! *pulls hair out*

I hate how people just take art classes for an easy credit. Grr
