I just saw on CAG that Shout! Factory is releasing Transformers season 1 on June 16 and GI Joe season 1 part 1 on July 21. Hot damn. I don't need these myself, but it means I'll be able to get the episodes from after Rhino stopped releasing them. (Though I'd be happy to snag these used at some point for the special features.)

Amazon has Transformers for $24.99, but they don't seem to have a listing for GI Joe yet.

While I was looking for them, I spotted the TMNT season 7 sets:
Part 1 - The Leonardo Slice
Part 2 - The Michelangelo Slice
Part 3 - The Donatello Slice
Part 4 - The Raphael Slice
They each have 6-7 episodes and cost $9.99. I don't like the idea of paying 40 bucks for only 27 episodes, but they all come with a figure, and those figures are currently selling for $9.99 or more on their own. So it's a pretty good deal for somebody who doesn't already have all the original figures like I do. They all come out May 12.

I also noticed:
The Real Ghostbusters, Vol 1 comes out tomorrow.
This is the first 30 episodes for $21.99. If the rest of them are priced like this, it's about 70 bucks cheaper than Time Life is charging for the complete series boxed set. (Though that includes a bonus disc and a firehouse collector's box.)

I believe I mentioned these already in the Amazon thread, but while I'm at it:
Just a month away from the 90s X-Men cartoon!
X-Men, Volume 1
X-Men, Volume 2
$17.99 each, April 28

I am so excited for all of this. Luckily i'm done with Transformers and have a little while to go before the GI Joe stuff i need hits, but it's still really cool. I'm going to try to buy Ghostbusters and X-Men as close to right away as possible, those have been in my top 5 most wanted list for a LONG time.

I just wish i could catch up on some other stuff....i've had to drop so much on toys lately that i keep missing DVD stuff i need...still gotta get two different Justice League sets, Bravestarr, and Silverhawks.

A question: The Transformers sets will sell because Transformers fans are crazy nuts and typically have deep pockets. How well do you think the GI Joe sets will do, with a lot of fans ignoring the first couple releases? Or do you think it's been long enough that a ton of people will get on board right away?

Well hopefully the movie (coming out August 7 according to IMDB) will get a lot of people interested.

I wasn't aware that people weren't buying the old GI Joe sets. They didn't seem to last very long on the shelves whenever I saw them. Reminds me though, I've never seen a trace of the last 3 GI Joe DVD-pack figures. I'll never complete the M.A.S.S. Device.

Have you noticed Hasbro having a problem getting more expensive toys onto the shelves? I've never seen those DVD-packs, or the Wal-Mart exclusive Alternators and Masterpiece Starscream. Never seen Animated Ultra Magnus or Wreck-Gar. (And I wants me that Weird Al Transformer.)

Do you have any Bravestarr yet? I have the movie and season 1 vol. 1, but I've never found a deal on vol. 2. No Silverhawks either.

I should've been more specific. I meant to say "Fans ignoring the first couple REreleases". Since a lot of people already have the first two sets, and a lucky few have the third. The Transformers qualifier was in there because Transformers fans will pretty much throw money at whatever has the logo on it, i have no doubt that a lot of people who have already bought the whole series will buy them again. And with regards to the movie, if anything it's going to kill interest in the whole franchise. Thing looks god-awful.

As far as Hasbro not getting expensive toys onto the shelves, no, i haven't really noticed that. If anything they're the ONLY company that still can. Look at the gigantic $200 Star Wars vehicles they released this past Christmas, or the abundance of GI Joe vehicles out and about now. You probably haven't seen the Wal-Mart exclusive Alternators because Wal-Mart never bothers to restock their toy aisles, much less bother to carry their own exclusives. I saw those GI Joe DVD packs EVERYWHERE down here though, but i never paid attention to which ones exactly since i decided not to collect that line and already had the DVDs anyway.

I never got around to picking up any Bravestarr, or Silverhawks. Never finished She-Ra or New Adventures of He-Man either. Hell, i just now got the last volume of the 02 series last week. smile.gif It's all i can do to keep up on the DC Universe Classics toyline, so my spending in other areas has suffered pretty hard. DVD sets especially.

REreleases

Oh, took me a while to get you there. Yeah, that might be a problem. But I think it'll work out. A lot of people missed those old releases, and if the Transformers set is any indication, these will be cheaper.

The DVD figure packs are everywhere here too, but only the first two. I guess maybe nobody's buying them so the stores never got the newer ones.

I think that $200 Millennium Falcon works because Star Wars fans have even deeper pockets than Transformers fans, and cover a wider range of ages.

Still though, Animated seems to be selling really well, so I don't understand why I've never seen a trace of Magnus or Wreck-Gar. Though Wreck-Gar is at least new enough that maybe it hasn't hit every area yet.

Not really though right? Isn't the first season really short compared to the other volumes, and therefore cheaper? Or are they breaking it up differently than Rhino did?

The first season was shorter and cheaper, but I think I remember it being about $10 more than this. From look of it, it seems to be in cheaper packaging, so that might help.

Hey, somebody please let me know if these Amazon links aren't working anymore, or if it's just me.

Thanks.

In a case of shockingly fast (and free) shipping, i got my Ghostbusters set from Amazon yesterday. The case is nice, thin and metal. I like when these sets don't take up a lot of shelf space.

Watched around three episodes so far. If i didn't blindly love Ghostbusters as much as i do, this would basically be another garbagey DIC cartoon. There are some pretty nice monster designs though, so i'm holding out hope for some cool episodes here and there.

Animation is sub-par for almost any other studio but definitely top of the pile for DIC. Voice acting is hit or miss, for some reason Maurice LaMarche sounds like he's working his way out of a coma a lot of the time, and Lorenzo Music seems generally unenthusiastic even compared to his Garfield performances.

Like i said though, i'm a sucker for Ghostbusters and monsters in general, so i'm enjoying it. Definitely worth the $22 Amazon was charging for 30 episodes.

The Transformers set dropped to $19.99. Good sign. thup.gif

I forgot to mention this one when I first noticed it:
Exosquad: Season 1 - $14.49 (Came out a few days ago.)
I didn't see this show much (if at all) when it was on, but I know some people liked it a lot.

I saw Exo-Squad at Wal-Mart the other day, thought about picking it up. I might if i see that they're definitely going to continue with the series. And that IS good news about the Transformers set. Seems almost ridiculously cheap at this point...although at $20 i'm sure they'll make up for it in volume. I'm almost tempted to buy them for the better transfers.

Those better transfers are just frustrating. I want them, but barring some sort of ridiculous sale or finding them used I just can't justify rebuying the series.

Well, it's still going to be crappy animation with the wrong mouths moving and trucks driving through walls. It'll just be a little sharper. I wouldn't be concerned. smile.gif

Aside from being a little sharper, they're fixing the audio and whatever other mistakes were made with the Rhino sets. That helps some. But yeah, not really something to worry about.

My TMNT season 7 sets showed up today. I probably should've figured it out from the photo, but the figures included are not, in fact, the same reissues sold in stores. They're minifigs, slightly over 2" tall. Oh well.
