pet peeves, let's talk about them

There's some things that really get on my nerves much more than they should. For example...

"guesstimate". An estimate IS a guess. There isn't some special new meaning derived from combining the two words. It would be like saying "beverdrink" or "fagmosexual". It's not like saying "northeast" where the resultant meaning is somewhere between the meanings of the two original words. People say "guesstimate" purely to sound clever which is the worst part. I had a manager who would say it all the time and he was exactly the sort of person who lived to make himself sound smarter than everyone else. "Well I'd GUESSTIMATE that you'd need a bigger box to ship that." God I hated that guy...

"irregardless". This is a word that really has no use ever. Seriously, it doesn't. People use it in the phrase "irregardless of that" and everyone just kinda smiles and nods like what was just said makes sense. The thing is, what it would actually mean is "without a lack of regard". It's a double negative making it a useless word. In fact, the way people use it what it seems like they mean to say is actually "regardless" which is the OPPOSITE meaning. If it's some sort of "cute" combination of "irrespective" and "regardless", well, see above.

"go-t". Is "goatee" really that hard to type? Really?

Girls who shout "wooooooooo!" I get it, you're excited about something. You don't need to shatter my eardrums to get that across. This is the exact "woooooooo!" that the "hot college co-eds" shout in the Girls Gone Wild ads. I think what happens is society encourages girls to act like that because guys want hot college girls who like to "party", and girls want to feel wanted so they do what seems to be working for other girls. It's annoying as hell though. "I'm inside the bar! WOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm ordering a drink! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm drinking that drink! WOOOOOOOOO!!!! I'm going to the bathroom! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

The thing I hate the most is "ne", or even worse "n e". It's the same number of keystrokes as "any"!

I might've been guilty of saying "guessimate" before, but I can't say I say it all the time.

Hmmm.. I have quite a few myself..

My boss is absolutely annoying and one thing he does is he'll ask me a question, then not even pay attention to me when I answer him. So he responds with this really annoying, "HUH?" Argh! Drives me mad! If you want me to answer, LISTEN to me! *pulls hair out*

I also hate it when people leave empty packages in the fridge! Throw it away! GAH!

Oh my god I hate that too. I always read it as a word and not as the letters. "ne1" should be a capital offense.

I also hate this. That and leaving an ounce of chip fragments at the bottom of a bag then sticking it back in the cabinet. Oh, another great one is leaving only a few drops of milk in the carton. I go to pour milk on my cereal only to get a small puddle on the bottom of the bowl then there's none left. Great, now what?

I am totally adding the words "beverdrink" and "fagmosexual" to my day-to-day conversations.

I've heard people say "fagmosexual" before but only ironically. Sort of like "ecstamacy".

AGH! I hate that word!

*laughs* Yeah, a co-worker sends that to my manager all the time. He's normally "What the hell does that mean?!"

I hate when scrawny, suburban, white kids try to act gangsta. I was at the local convenience store and this group of three pasty guys with sweatpants sagged down their asses were standing around saying things like "Yo, I'ma holla at my bitch real quick" and "Aw naw, son, I ain't tryna hea' dat." I wanted to just walk up to them, call them all douchebags, then walk away. You can make whatever defense you like for being the unique individual snowflake you are, but before you try to act all hood, ask yourself the following questions:

Do I live in or anywhere near a ghetto?
Can I only afford the ugly gold chains I wear if I use layaway?
Do all of my friends have single mothers?
Have I ever witnessed an actual gang shooting?

If you can't answer yes to all of those, YOU ARE NOT A THUG. I don't care how profoundly influenced you were by Yung Joc and Li'l Jeezy, you can't just suddenly decide you're gangsta.

strizzuth, those kids have probably only seen ghettos on TV. Not a doubt in my mind, from my experience growing up with, and living around, black people, they wouldn't put up with scrawny little white kids acting black. They would get jacked or jumped or both or worse. It's such a young kid thing to do, especially if they live in safe® neighborhoods. We didn't have too much of that shit going on where I grew up, those white kids learned their lessons really quick.

Seriously. These kids are too young to remember shit like New Jack City so all they've ever seen of the "ghetto" is the glamourized version from music videos where everyone has platinum pendants of their names with inset diamonds, every man is a pimp and all the girls are 18 years old, good looking, and can't wait to put their barely covered asses in the camera.

I hate hearing people chew. It is disgusting.

I also dislike it when people say addicting instead of addictive. Either one is appropriate, I just prefer the latter.
