Title: Random

littlelamb - September 19, 2010 04:09 PM (GMT)
This is now the random news/stuff thread.

First off MERRY will be on another pop punk/rock'n'roll tribute album this year, coming out on the 10th of November. This time it's NEW ROTE'KA or ニューロティカ, however you wish to call them. Seriously fun band. Funny thing is that they also covered a song on THE BLUE HEARTS tribute album Merry was on in February. Merry's covering Shinjuku Nana from an album that came out last year actually. But it's such a perfect song for Merry, love love love it. They know how to pick a song to cover. Too bad it's not on Youtube, but here's another song:

[doHTML]<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YB_Ab1s6SVM?fs=1&amp;hl=fi_FI"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YB_Ab1s6SVM?fs=1&amp;hl=fi_FI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>[/doHTML]

Something else I noticed, Turtles, Tadanobu Asano is also doing a cover on this album. LOL, cute actor AKA Dragon Man. Awesome! I'm in love with that movie's soundtrack. I might have to buy this tribute. :D

Sir Turtles The Great - September 19, 2010 07:05 PM (GMT)
hey cool i have albums by NEWROTEKA :)

and wat for real? I know he's in multiple punk bands so i'm not that surprised, but.. imma dl that for real AT LEAST

littlelamb - September 20, 2010 04:23 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I didn't even notice it when I first heard about this, but then Masuda mentioned it in his Merry news article on Barks while talking about the varied line-up for that album. Good thing I wasn't drinking anything since I was playing that soundtrack while reading this bit of info. Small world. Or Japan, haha.

Anyway, my attempts to catch Merry on radio are proving ever so futile, since that annoying net player that is supposed to stream various radio stations just gives an error no matter what, even if I try to listen from "Tokyo". I kinda wanted to hear Gara talk just now. :( Especially since the caption above the following pic was

"Tonight's guest is メリー's vocalist Gara-san!

Every time,
Gara-san talks deeply about "female announcers" "idols" etc. What kind of talks will you be hearing tonight?
" (Didn't wanna miss that, LOL)

Oh something else I read on the OHP, Crisis Moment will the ending theme of this show http://www.fbs.co.jp/night_s/index.html in October. I don't even know what it's about, but yay for them.

littlelamb - September 22, 2010 08:58 PM (GMT)
Ah, I found a summary of Gara's radio appearance. Apparently they did talk about idols again, ha.

About some idol they'd been discussing before who Gara ended up meeting via her staff/her being staff (not sure which?) or something and Gara was so grateful for the encounter. Aw. Also about some AKB48 related news (convention center, rock-paper-scissors, wat?). AKB48 is this idol group with 48 members divided in teams and they have their own theater and whatnot, I actually remember hearing about some similar thing being formed in VK, good lord. But I recall Yuu talking about AKB48 being on TV not long ago and someone asked him about his fave member. Mariko-sama, if anyone wants to know.

Anyhow, they also talked about baseball and Crisis Moment apparently, but she didn't elaborate on that. And lastly about Gara's hobby of taking long strolls, which end in him taking a taxi back. I do that too all the time, but I'm poor so it's bus not taxi. But random walks are my favourite past time. :}

In other news, Yuu made Merry's on and off roadie Kazuki (from the late Monokuro Kinema) start a twitter as well. And called him Chazuki, aw. But his first tweet was hella sweet. "While helping out today, I got to observe Nero-san's drums from close proximity after a long time, so cool! I'm a guitarist, but Nero-san's drumming is my dream (^_^) Body and soul!"

Here's Nero's soul in the form of a poem, which I wish I could read. Someone needs to write clearer kanji. Or post bigger pics.

user posted image

It's kinda ironic that the good-for-nothing Japanese police won't leave Nero alone, when he's like the sweetest guy ever. And it's obviously just because he's a muscular guy with tattoos and piercings which spells yakuza to these morons. No concept of civil rights in that there country.

Daisy - September 22, 2010 09:06 PM (GMT)
I like random strolls too.
But when I want to get home I always wish I had taken my bike with me or something.

I recently deleted my twitter but I regret it somehow xD

littlelamb - September 25, 2010 04:23 PM (GMT)
Oh hey, something I randomly found on nicovideo. Yuu and Gara's little cover of T-Bolan's Hanashitaku wa nai recorded from radio. It's really fuzzy, but nothing can ruin my enjoyment of those two covering sappy pop songs.

http://nicosound.anyap.info/sound/nm5284411

BTW, anyone have a nicovideo account and know how to steal stuff from there? I can't seem to be able to do it anymore, even though I have in the past. I need to steal some After Effect live footage.

Sir Turtles The Great - September 30, 2010 02:57 PM (GMT)
So. new THE STALIN tribute album coming out and LOOK WHO'S ON IT lol

littlelamb - September 30, 2010 03:47 PM (GMT)
Also AA=, Wagdug and YUKI. I love how everything I find through Merry somehow and proceed to get addicted to ends up being on some tribute album with them the next moment. Getting freaky now. But this sounds like potentially the coolest thing ever.

It's funny how after the disaster the first half of this year was for Merry, now the good news just won't stop coming. Only a week until the new single too! Life = good.

Oh and Gara getting to pay tribute to the ultimate object of his fanboy love? Aww x1000.

littlelamb - October 2, 2010 09:57 PM (GMT)
Oh it's Tetsu and Yuu after the live tonight. From Hajime Nishio's twitter. He's the one who named Yuu's Nico-P smilie, haha. ~p~

user posted image

Well seems they had a great live. Yuu gets cleverness points for asking people to tag all their tweets related to the live with #MERRY_LIVE, so I can read them all. ありがとう!

littlelamb - October 3, 2010 02:04 PM (GMT)
Oh hey, set list. From a live report, but hers are usually accurate.

クライシスモメント (Crisis moment)
頭がザクロ(Atama ga zakuro)
ハライソ (Haraiso)
モノクローム (Monochrome)
首吊りロンド (Kubitsuri Rondo)
青年秘密倶楽部 (Seinen himitsu kurabu)
月食 (Gesshoku)
高層ビルの上でラストダンス (Kousou bilu no ue de last dance)
赤い靴 (Akai kutsu)
The Cry Against...
[human farm]
Friction XXXX
ロストジェネレーション (Lost generation)
Fleeting Prayer

Midnight Shangrila
不均衡キネマ (Fukinkou kinema)
Charlie
妄想rendez-vous (Mousou rendez-vous)
コールing (Calling)

T.O.P

Ugh, there are still many people on twitter complaining about preferring メリー over MERRY and things being different. Makes me wonder if they really are that different or if these are just spoiled cosplaying bitches who can't handle change. Just as many people seem to find it refreshing, so... opinions I suppose.

littlelamb - October 16, 2010 06:16 PM (GMT)
A new Garakuta at http://www.cddata-mag.com/series/merry/ :)
This time it's Gara and Yuu taking a stroll from Itabashi station to Sugamo, Gara's old hood. He had an apartment there around the time they got to know each other. Wish I could translate all of it, since it's adorable, but a little too difficult. Yuu reveals his true colours again (not that he's ever hidden them) and Gara teases him mercilessly as always.

Anyway, Itabashi station is where they met to start a band together (I guess when Gara had lured Yuu back into Tokyo), but the first time they met was at some party. Gara was being overly familiar as usual, so he came off as the type that's no good. But then some time later he went to Shinjuku Loft where Yuu's band was taking part in an event and some secret scheming took place. Yuu went to see After-effect too and saw Nero's drumming for the first time (which he liked). But then when Shiver disbanded he went back home.

Interviewer: "After returning home, it must have required pretty firm commitment to leave once more?"

Yuu: "That's right. The intention was of the extent that I cannot return home again. Receiving a phone call everyday (from Gara), gradually you're going to feel like it. But firstly, the thing that was keeping me from going to Tokyo was that at the time I was keeping a cat..."

Gara: "...... Chissaina!! This is the first time I hear of this"

Yuu: "(laugh). This guy takes along companions, you know. It was the saddest fairwell to the cat."

Gara: "Because of that how long did I keep luring you with phone calls? (in the Fool's Mate history book he said Yuu even changed his number at one point, but "clever as he is" he found out the new one and kept calling)
......
Oh well, I also felt a sense of responsibility for luring him. "For Yuu-kun's parents, him leaving again?" I thought. We would have to work to convince them, to give shape to what we are doing and properly show them. Therefore, it's not only my parents, but all the members' parents, who should come see a live and be delighted. For some reason especially with Yuu-kun's parents there was affinity. [Way too may te-forms in a row here to translate, but basically Yuu's mom was spoiling him]. (laugh)"

Yuu: "Didn't know which one was the son (laugh)."

Interviewer: "By the way, I think it's been a long time since you've been to this Sugamo neighbourhood... "

Gara: "As expected it brings back memories. However there isn't a convenience store below the apartment anymore. [Something about Gara being a good milkman back in the day etc.]... Come to think of it, there's something I'd like you to write about. Just now Yuu-kun removed an old lady from a chair she was relaxedly sitting on. After that he sat down himself. What kind of a person (does that)" (see last pic)

Yuu: "But it was not my intention (laugh). I feel bad."

Interviewer: "In conclusion, now, how do you see each other?"

Gara: "Yuu-kun is, how should I put it, fundamentally kind. His tolerance level, it has a much larger capacity than mine. [Something about his commitment, skills in coming to an agreement?, something interesting I wish I understood] Now that most of MERRY's sound is done by Yuu-kun, he's such a part of the framework of MERRY."

Yuu: "My strong points are Gara's weak points and my weak points are Gara's strenghts. After many years, I feel great knowing that it means that my shortcomings are being compensated for. That's why I can devote myself freely to my part of music. That's the truth, I think well of this guy."

Gara: "That was a good sum up, wasn't it? Like John Lennon and Paul McCartney (laugh)"

Oh Nice with Asano. He did great work on the Electric Dragon soundtrack (though it wasn't written solely by him)..

I was ripping some random stuff and thought someone might like to watch this. It's the FC bonus disc of last year's tour DVD. Just Violet Harenchi and Charlie, but Gara's being hilarious.

Hey,

I randomly found this forum, and I was so happy to see there was a Merry thread! There's so many material I don't know about, even though I try my best to keep up. I just can't read/understand Japanese. =(

Anyway, the Mediafire link has been set to private, but I would really like to see what's on there. Could you make it public for me please?

xoxo

littlelamb - November 25, 2010 04:18 PM (GMT)
If you promise to post more I will. :P

Just kidding, I set it back to public. Enjoy!

Yeah, the amount of Merry stuff in English is rather appalling at the moment. And people are missing out because of it. It saddens me.

Haha, I might come here more often though. Talking about Merry [even though I don't know half of what's going on because of the language difference XD] never bores. <3 *_*

Thank you so much! ^_^

It's indeed hard to come by. I sometimes google with the kanji for Merry and the kanji for Gara, but then I can't really get further since I can't read the rest haha. Just tried to search for some After Effect too, leaves me in the dark. v_v

But hey! I learned something new already by coming here! I had NO IDEA Kenichi was in Syndrome! Eeeeek so much fun to see him like that. ^_^

Ohh, if you want After effect, go to http://www.nicovideo.jp/tag/メリー
though you have to have a nicovideo account to view the vids. Somehow I managed to make one before I knew any Japanese, lol. But I guess you can now register via the German or Spanish version in case you master either of those languages. Just click the little flags at the bottom of the page. :) There's some After effect live footage, and Tetsu's old band ACiD as well. Not to mention all kinds of other goodness. ;)

*_* My gosh.. Gara's a bit silly but I've never seen him stick water in his pants in th&aacute;t way haha. Charlie was great live, as always. That song can't disappoint. *_* Thank yoooou, again! <3

And thanks for the link. =3 I can read German better than I can write or speak it, so reading it in German worked fine. I already watched an After Effect video, the rest is still loading... But OMG Nerooooooooo. <3 And Gara, with the make-up, teehee.
I'm going to stroll there quite some time haha.

*Is even more excited for 1 December now...*

You're welcome! Anything for a fellow Merry fan! :3

Gara looks like a sad clown. In fur. With fake vomit. And Nero looks all pretty. Hahaha. That band really had a concept. :P

I was so happy when I noticed someone had uploaded the original version of Tokyo Telephone live from Shambara to the CORE Act. 2. I love that song so much and they sound so great I don't even... ;_;

December 1st is less than a week away!

Haha you summed that up perfectly, it was so refreshing to see them like that though.
Hmmhmm, that dude with the bandana over his head looked as if he really belonged there with them haha. XD

*_* That's one of the first things that drew me in. Before I had listened to any of their songs I watched a live DVD of them first, and from that moment on I immediately knew they were going to be one of my favourite bands. <3 They're so amazing live, almost no fuck-ups, great stage presence.. *_*

Yes that's true! But then it takes .. two weeks maybe even more, before it's arrived here, from Yesasia. x3. v_v I want to see Fleeting Prayer live sooooo bad. *_* And ofcourse the PV. *_* <3

Same here! :) Just yesterday I was reminded just how unbelievable they are live. Great musicians and artists! They have such energy about them too... it's rare. I kinda wanna hop on a plane right now. ;_; But I also want to wait before I know more Japanese, so they better stick around for a while. Or come to EUROPE.

Why did you order from Yesasia? I did that for some godforsaken reason with Crisis Moment and had to wait 2-3 weeks. Scarred for life. Now I'm sticking with CDJapan. Haha.

Haha, I've been thinking/saying that for over a year now: I'm really going to save up money and go to Japan to see them. <3 Even if I don't know any Japanese at all, my English is good enough so I hope I'll manage with one of those common Japanese phrase-books.
Now all my money is spend on my education. v_v Shit. I need another approach haha. AND INDEED, FOR THEM TO COME TO EUROPE. They'll probably skip Holland anyway, where I live. -.-' I don't care anyway, saving up so I can do a small road trip, hopefully haha. On my own, probably. v_v Omg it made me so happy when I saw a comment video and it was subtitled :B and they mentioned overseas and I got all happy. <3 Yeah, happy, let that be clear. XD Just after I get a heartattack from all the stress that's going to come with it. *Has to be front row. Has to experience Merry to the fullest and see everyone..*
Where are you from, in Europe? ^_^

Wow okay I rambled. x3 That's what you get with Merry... *_* Just.have.to.see.them.live.<3

Uhm.. For one, because CDJapan has shipping.. And most of the time I only order one or two things and then I think the shipping over it is expensive. ;_; AND TWO, BECAUSE I FINALLY SAVED UP ENOUGH MONEY FOR TOUR '09 UNDER-WORLD [GI GO] DVD that was very expensive already, and I got a 30 euros fine over it. v_v I don't think that's CDJapan's fault though, but I sort of feel safer with YesAsia, because I've never had any trouble with customs there. Maybe because it goes via Germany.. I don't know, pff.. >_<

littlelamb - November 26, 2010 06:38 PM (GMT)
Haha, I'm glad someone has equally big plans for Merry! But it would be a total tragedy to miss out on their show, I agree. Though I'm sure that'd just leave me hungry for more. :0

I'm from Finland. Yes, the place they were supposed to go to before Gara hurt his back. Been waiting for that postponed gig for a year and a half now. No pressure, guys, no pressure. *bitter smile*

Aw, sorry you got into trouble with customs. Not that that DVD isn't worth it. :) I've held off on buying so many things because I want to avoid the charges. But YesAsia is indeed amazing for more expensive stuff, since they tend to lie about the value. My kinda people. <3

Oh in other news, what is this Nero just said about an open rehearsal? For CORE members? So jealous right now, so jealous.

anewrevolution - November 26, 2010 09:31 PM (GMT)
They're one of the bands that REALLY deserve it. And I'm sure they wouldn't bore me, even if they played the same setlist in the same tour and I'd see them two times. XD <3 Haha definitely! They're like a drug!

Aww fuck that sucks. Fingers crossed for next year, so bad.

I was really doubting about buying it with YesAsia, but CDJapan had a 'free shipping' offer and with thát version I would get 2 DVDs ánd the CD, which I couldn't get with YesAsia.. So I figured, sure, let's get that CD. I never realized that CD was just an audio rip of the DVD. So yeah, that sucks. v_v I've watched [GI GO] so many times now, I can DREAM the entire CD without even putting it on. XD I have no use for it lololol. But yeah, still happy that those sites exist.. Without them, no chance in hell to get all the Merry stuff.

Those lucky lucky people.. Damn lucky to just be able to see them live already haha.

I don't think they ever repeat setlists though. I wouldn't either if I had so many great songs to choose from. :3 Oh and drug is a rather accurate word to use I feel, haha.

LOL, I know what you mean about [GI GO], except that for me it was the other way around. The CD was the first thing that was uploaded online, so by the time I saw the DVD I'd listened to it way too many times. But it was funny, because you can't hear at all in Gara's voice what he's doing while singing, so I was like "oh, he's lying on the floor here... I had no idea". :D

Oh look what I randomly stumbled on. They look so excited. Gara said something about a new album next year. Too bad the only thing I understood was "next year" and "album", and that was obvious already. They talked a bit about it in some interview recently though, and said the theme is decadence in all its forms.

Ha, so true. :D It would be impossible to make thé perfect setlist with all the gems that they have. *_* Unless it would be a setlist twice as long.

Haha cool! Once again proves what a great singer he is. I bet that was a surprise, when you saw the movements with the song, on the DVD? XD

New album, good news.. Though, after The Cry Against... and Crisis Moment and the difference between those two, and AGAIN, difference between those and Yakou.., it's hard to expect what the album's going to be like. ='D Surprises, love 'em. <3

Twice? More like thrice. :P I wanna know what they played today!

Nothing surprises me when it comes to Gara really, haha. But it was interesting. He truly was in top form last year, vocally speaking. Maybe he stopped smoking while in hospital... well who knows, but he doesn't sound as good right now.

And I know what you mean about surprises. Really I have no idea what to expect, but then again that's what I love about this band. And Yakou being so different from Crisis Moment is smart IMO, since that single is hard to top and making something else entirely makes it harder to compare. Anyway, there was some more talk about the new stuff here: http://www.pia.co.jp/kansai/ent/music/1011012-1.html but trying to make sense of that article broke my brain. It's very interesting, but loooooooong. At some point the interviewer was like "So does this 3rd single conclude the first chapter of new MERRY?" and Gara says no, it's not complete. But the album is the "landing point".

Ah, Fleeting Prayer *_* and Montage.. And and.. Guh. <3
No Gekisei.. Gosh I hope I can experience that live one day..

Haha, the part about Gara quitting during his stay there, that would really explain quite a few things. ='D Though it's still awesome that he's managed to keep his voice so pure and beautiful.

I'm so happy that Merry is doing all of this.. *_* They've proven to be one of those bands that can handle a lot of styles and still keep their uniqueness. I was seriously too negative over them around The Cry Against.., but then Crisis Moment came and it got better, and now.. I've listened to Yakou, full version.. [Someone on LJ posted it and I just couldn't resist.. ;__; Can't wait for weeks for my copy anyway.] And Yakou.. Shit.. That intro.. I love it. When I heard the shortest preview I had no idea the rest of the song would be the way it was, and it's turned out for the best. *_* Respectttt. <3!

littlelamb - November 30, 2010 05:28 PM (GMT)
I tried to download Yakou for like an hour and it just kept failing for some reason and I was ready to hang myself, but then it worked, wohoo. Then I spent another hour looping it and DYING all over the place.

OMG, what is this even?! And I mean that in a good way. <3 At least I've learned by now not to trust the previews to be at all representative of the whole thing. Just... woah. I thought this was supposed to be straight? The guitar... *_* And the acoustic in the TAIHAI mix! Aaaadore.

I was freaking out over The Cry Against... as well, though it did soon grow on me after hearing the whole thing. Crisis Moment is brilliant to me and I can't believe some people are still complaining about them becoming a clone of certain other bands. No, they still sound way better. It's not the ingredients, it's how you put them together.

Back to listening!

anewrevolution - December 1, 2010 06:33 PM (GMT)
Yakou = pure win. <3 Both the song ánd the remix.
I don't really understand why Lost Generation was re-made though, still don't. XD It was a great song already, the first time around, and this new version is okay too, but it doesn't add much to it for me.. Yet. [?] Would rather have heard a new track (A). =3

Crisis Moment has Merry's own style in it and whoever's comparing them just wánts to hear what they want to hear; that they're 'copying' bands.. -.-'

Okay, so MERRY wins AT LIFE. OMFG that Michiro Endo cover! Dying right now.

And looks like Gara wrote a novel in the booklet. About Michiro. Aww.

What can I say.. The original song is a bit crazy but not crazy enough for me lolol, Merry did a good job in making it chaotic but still a pleasure to the ears. ='D <3

littlelamb - December 4, 2010 03:31 PM (GMT)
We think alike. ;D This song is just so much fun I could listen to it all day and still grin like a fool at the end of it. It's so deliciously long too! Is there a longer version of the original I'm not aware of or did they really add 2m 45s to it? Haha. The "jazzy" bit cracks me up.

anewrevolution - December 5, 2010 12:19 PM (GMT)
The more the merrier. XD [Quite literally haha.]
Almost seven minutes that will NOT bore. *_* It's one of those songs to play when you need to get psyched up for something.. Like Oriental BL Circus or Aikoku Futatsu ~ BURST ~.. Gah indeed! I wouldn't mind hearing it all day. In fact, I hadn't listened to it yesterday after hearing it once and now I put it on again and sometimes there's just this relieved feeling you can have when hearing a song again, y'know..? XD Definitely happened haha.
They're great at covers! Jeeeeeeez. <3

littlelamb - December 5, 2010 03:56 PM (GMT)
Hahaha, I know exactly what you mean! About those songs. I think I've ruined part of my hearing already listening to this one too many times in a row. But it can't be helped! Like 2 mins into the song I'm already thinking I need to play it again. :3 I seriously wonder what crack they put in there...

Did you like the NEW ROTE'KA cover? Oh I haven't listened to that one for a while...

Identity

They had an open rehearsal again for CORE members pre-live, where they talked and played a few songs. Monochrome and Yakou at least. Some snippets I read about the live: Gara had a tambourine again during Haraiso, Tic-Tac had a longish a cappella, Mado had a cool intro and [human farm] was played twice because Gara had some problems the first time around (back related?). Oh and everyone seemed to have loads of fun. Nero's final words of the night were "zenshin zenrei de aishitemasu!" meaning "I love you with all of my heart". Aww, Nero.
