It was incredible to see the effects that those two words had on Zoisite. His happiness was obvious and it made Kunzite pleased that he had managed to bring so much light into the other man's life. He smiled when Zoisite buried his face into his chest and held him close, wrapping both arms around him protectively, feeling his breath against his skin through the fabric of his shirt. His own face radiated pure happiness when his turn came to hear Zoisite voicing his feelings into those two words. Gazing down at the man in his arms, Kunzite couldn't help but wonder just what he had done to deserve to be loved by Zoisite. Aside from the past times, which he wasn't sure how well the younger man remembered, he had never been too close to him, he had never offered him too much attention or even consideration. Granted, the fact that Beryl had been careful to turn him into an almost brainless puppet for her plans had everything to do with his cold attitude towards all of the other shitennou. Even if that changed after Chaos brought them back, the memory of the time when he didn't even fake regret towards his injuries and impeding death, should have probably been enough to make Zoisite feel no different about him than the other shitennou did. And yet, he loved him. Him, the man whom in the past had been the lover of the one who had played a great part in his death.
Holding him silently, idly running his hands along his back, Kunzite observed just how innocent Zoisite looked just by standing there, close to him. Anyone would have found it impossible to believe that the delicate young man in his arms had done such a great share of evil in his life, and that there was even more evil to come from him. As much as Zoisite hated being reminded of it, he was still so young, still a teenager which sometimes even looked so childish into Kunzite's eyes. It was frustrating to know that this apparent innocence had been so tainted because of Beryl – or ultimately because of him, because he had failed to keep him safe from her back in the glorious days of the Terran Kingdom. If only time could be turned back...
Slowly Kunzite became aware of the fact that they were still standing on the dance floor, the song they had been dancing to long finished. He would have liked that they could take their leave, so they could spend what was left of the night just simply into each other's arms, in their true forms, not their temporary disguises. But leaving was impossible while Endymion was still there. ”Would you like another dance, or do you want to return at the table?”, Kunzite's voice broke the silence. After all, Zoisite had warned him that he might take advantage of his promise and spend the rest of the night dancing, but in the light of the new turn of events, there was a chance he changed his mind.

It was probably incredibly impolite of him not to wait around to hear her response to his words before just walking away, but it couldn’t be helped at the moment. He would have to make a point to make it up to her at a later time. For now, his confusion was too great and as much as he had been enjoying Yaten’s company, he just needed to get away from the crowd and find a nice quiet spot to clear his head. The silver-haired man had briefly considered asking Yaten if she felt like accompanying him back out into the gardens, but really that would have been ridiculous. They had just come in from the gardens and she had specifically wanted to come inside. Add to that the fact that he would likely end up ignoring her in favor of his own thoughts once they got there and he realized what a supremely bad idea that would have been. No, he could always see Yaten again some other time, preferably when his mind was less occupied with such confusing matters. After he had bid the silver-haired woman good evening, he carefully made his way back out into the garden. Initially, he had considered just returning to the place he was staying, but after a moment he thought better of it. No, he had come here to enjoy the evening and chances were very good that returning to that place would prevent him from doing so. He would have to return eventually but that wouldn’t be for quite some time. Besides, the ball was still going on. It would be silly of him to leave while everyone was still inside having a good time.
He wasn’t entirely sure whether sticking around would be worth it in the end, but it would at least give him a few more hours that he didn’t have to spend cooped up with those people. That was probably a bit unfair of him, but to be honest he just didn’t trust the majority of the others. It might have been due to the fact that he remembered virtually nothing about who he was, or it might have been something entirely different. Who knew? Endymion was really the only one of all of them that he seemed to trust at all. As odd as it was, he knew. . . somehow that he had some sort of connection with the older man. It wasn’t really much to go on but it was a start at least. He had been enjoying the evening and Yaten’s company until that flash of. . . whatever it was. It was the strangest thing he could remember experiencing and to be honest he wasn’t sure whether or not he wanted to go through it again. But then if that was how he was going to get his memories back, he supposed he didn’t have much of a choice. The sound of a voice caught his attention and pulled him out of his thoughts. Fighting the urge to frown, he blinked a couple of times and turned his head to gaze thoughtfully at the one who had interrupted his solitude. A mix of shock and confusion was written all over his face as he spied none other than the girl he had been hoping to run into in the first place. As unlikely as running into her had seemed earlier, he couldn’t help but feel a little grateful that he had in fact managed to do so.
Of course, now that she was standing right here, he had no idea what he was supposed to say to her. ‘Hi, have we met before?’ just sounded far too corny. And just going by her chosen greeting, he figured it was pretty safe to assume that they had in fact met before. And apparently it had been quite a while since they had seen one another. Well this was certainly shaping up to be a rather interesting evening. What was he supposed to say to her now? Perhaps it would have been wise to figure out what he would say to her if he did happen to catch her attention. Helios realized that she was probably expecting some sort of response to her observation, but to be honest he had no idea what to say to her. It had been a while since he had seen her, but as far as he had known she hadn’t been aware of that fact. Perhaps he was mistaken? He noticed she seemed to be studying him quite intently and that thought alone made him a bit nervous. Then again, it generally made him nervous when people studied him too closely. Her next words only added to his confusion; he didn’t look like himself? It seemed too good to be true, but a part of him wanted to believe that this girl knew him. Really knew him. And not just because he had this odd sort of feeling that he knew her from somewhere. “I am fine. I suppose I am just feeling a bit out of sorts this evening,” he replied honestly, after a moment. It was all very well and good to hope that this girl knew of him, but that still left him pretty much in the dark. He didn’t even know her name, and that was kind of important.
“Gomen nasai,” he began. “I am here, maiden,” Helios added, lifting his gaze to study her face. The fact that she knew his name was a small comfort, but then again It was always possible that she had heard someone else speaking it. Then again, the way in which she spoke to him implied that the two of them were close at one time. It was all very confusing, but he was hoping that he would somehow find the answer to the many questions whirling around inside his head before much longer.

Yaten’s behavior was a bit surprising to say the least. Normally she wouldn’t hesitate in calling Seiya a baka or something similar, and she was definitely not afraid to look the other woman in the eye. So to see her standing there staring at the floor as though Seiya might kick her at any moment was just a bit weird. The sound of Yaten’s voice surprised her and she could only stare down at the shorter woman in wonder as she spoke. It was surprising to hear Yaten telling her to not give up her foolish dream of someday winning Serenity’s heart. Honestly, she doubted it was ever going to happen. If the blond queen had not realized she was good enough by this point it was probably hopeless to ever think she would. It didn’t bother her really. She had fought as hard as she could and still Serenity was resistant to her efforts. As much as it disappointed her to know that she would always be just a friend to the former senshi of the moon, she supposed it was a good thing. Her loyalty would always like with her Princess and her fellow starlights. It would likely never work out even if Serenity did have a sudden change of heart. “Mhm. I do look pretty ridiculous chasing after her as though I actually have a chance. I’ll never be good enough for her. She didn’t have to answer my question for me to know that,” she replied softly. It wasn’t the end of the world really. They weren’t here on vacation anyway, so it seemed a bit foolish that she would be so concerned with something other than their main reason for being back.
But that wasn’t much of a surprise really. Seiya had always been easily distracted by a pretty face and it seemed things were no different in this case than the last time they had been here. Perhaps some day she would learn to get it together, but for the time being it was just the way she was. What surprised her the most was hearing Yaten say that perhaps this time would be different. Honestly, Seiya wasn’t overly anxious to get her hopes up for a second time only to have them crushed when she realized that the queen would once again pick someone else in the end. It was selfish of her, but she truly wished that things could have been different. But that was just impossible. No, she would just have to get used to the fact that she couldn’t win them all, especially not in this case. “I suppose anything is possible. Don’t worry, I’m not going to make a huge fool of myself this time. If she does, I'll be very surprised. . . but I'm not going to get my hopes up this time," she added matter-of-factly. The fact that Yaten was smiling as she said this was a bit of a surprise because as far as she knew, the silver-haired woman didn't think much of Serenity or the fact that Seiya seemed to be unable to stop herself from stupidly chasing after her. Just the fact that Yaten was smiling period was enough to lift her mood a bit. She couldn't honestly remember the last time she had seen the other woman wearing any expression other than a scowl or a frown, so to see her smiling now was definitely a pleasant surprise. To be honest, she was pretty sure she preferred it when Yaten smiled, even if she didn't get to see that very often.
"It's alright, I don't mind doing it. Everyone's having a good time, I'm sure they won't miss me," she insisted. "You won't ruin the evening, I promise." When she smiled again, Seiya couldn't help but smile in return. It was very odd, and she couldn't decide whether it was the drink she'd had or something else entirely, but she was beginning to get the idea that spending the evening with Yaten would be better than hovering around Serenity like a sad little person. "Besides, I'm having more fun with you than I was before. Everyone else is just standing around. I thought this was supposed to be a dance," she reasoned. Alright so they weren't dancing yet, but they were doing better than everyone else at least. That had to count for something, right? Well it was completely ridiculous to worry about what everyone else was doing when she was here with Yaten. There was no law that stated she couldn't enjoy a nice evening with her friend every once in a while. Of course, most friends didn't waltz with their friends. . . or wonder what it would be like to kiss them. That was a bit of a random thought, but it wasn't an altogether unpleasant notion. Dancing with Yaten felt surprisingly natural, and not nearly as awkward as she had imagined it might. The silver-haired woman's next remark caused her to chuckle and she shook her head as she gazed down at Yaten. "Really Yaten, it would be my pleasure to walk you to your room. I know you can go by yourself, but I want to do it," she explained as they continued to dance.
Gradually, she began to notice how Yaten seemed to be losing her focus on the dance and though she was a bit disappointed, she supposed she couldn't really hold it against her. Ordinarily she might have just left the smaller woman to fend for herself, but the knowledge that she had had a drink was not something she was willing to disregard. Yaten almost never drank, and for precisely this reason. To be honest, Seiya was more than a little curious why she'd done it in the first place but it really wasn't any of her business. Hell, she had no room to talk, she'd had a glass of champagne earlier before bumping into her current dance partner. Yaten's words from earlier replayed through her mind, and she couldn't get past the notion that something was bothering Yaten. Granted, she wasn't the most likely choice if Yaten suddenly felt like talking about it, but it made her sad that something was wrong and she couldn't do anything to help. That was all she wanted really, for her friends to be happy. After a few more moments of watching Yaten stumble through the motions in an attempt to finish the dance, Seiya just smiled faintly and wrapped her arms around the silver-haired woman's waist, pulling the shorter woman into her arms as she continued to slowly sway to the music. "You've been holding on so long, tryin' to make believe that nothing's wrong. . . not letting it show. And there ain't nothing you can do to make me turn away from you, I need you to know. . . that you can let go," she whispered, pressing her cheek against Yaten's.
For a minute or two she stayed like that, with her cheek pressed against the other woman's. This evening had taken an odd turn at some point and she wasn't entirely sure whether she was even bothered by it. Yaten was acting odd and so was she, it was probably ridiculous to try to analyze it. Chances were good she was just dreaming this anyway. She wasn't entirely sure how long they had been dancing, but when she finally did move it was only enough so she could gaze down at the woman in her arms. This was not normal behavior; she should definitely not be thinking things like this. Even knowing all of that, she couldn't stop herself from slowly inching her face closer and gazing intently into Yaten's eyes. Nor could she stop herself a moment later from leaning in further and delicately brushing her lips against the other woman's, her eyes fluttering to a slow close as she did so.

Juno motioned to Aphrodite, holding one hand facing towards the dance floor and the other facing a table nearby in a gesture implying that she would be joining her friend after she paid a visit to the table in question. Though a part of her wished it was a handsome young man who wanted to dance with her, perhaps a dashing prince of her own with long curly locks, but in lieu of such a thing dancing with on of her best friends was just as good. Glancing at Serenity for a brief moment, she was almost certain it would just be herself and Aphrodite. Seiya had since wandered off and Kogane really didn't seem the type.
Shaking her head to herself, she made her way to the refreshment table. She figured one more glance of champagne wouldn't hurt. She was determined to enjoy herself tonight, at least for a little while, and two glasses of champagne wouldn't impair her mind when it came time for the meeting. . . well technically slumber party that had been arranged for later that night. She didn't really want to think about that now though, not about how she'd break the news to her friends. She'd rather be one of the smiling masses bustling about. She wondered idly if she might be able to tell someone, anyone about it before hand. She couldn't tell Aphrodite: she rarely had free time to enjoy herself as it was, what with her leadership duties. She definitely couldn't tell Serenity, for glaringly obvious reasons. Marisela would take too much explaining -- she had a feeling the other woman would be skeptical-- and she'd rather wait to go in depth until she had everyone together. That only left Ahtene.
That was, of course, assuming she could find her friend amidst the crowd. Perhaps it was just better if she kept it to herself. For the time being she reached for her second glass of champagne, only to be greeted by a familiar voice. "No it's fine, I'll get another," she assured the dark haired senshi, grabbing another as she spoke. "I wasn't sure you were going to come tonight. I love your dress." She grinned, admiring the ensemble of the Martian senshi.

Yaten's weak smile was short-lived, fading away as soon as Seiya opened her mouth to reply. It hurt her too much to hear Seiya talk about herself like that. She was good enough for anyone, even for Serenity. Why shouldn't she be? Just because Serenity was a queen? Being royalty didn't make her better than anyone. Her eyes were filled with sorrow as she replied: ”Don't say that, don't think like that. You are good enough, Seiya. If she fails to see it it's her fault, it doesn't mean the problem is with you.” In a way the conversation she was now carrying with Seiya was beyond ridiculous. Here she was, trying to make Seiya be optimistic about her chances with the woman she loved, trying to convince her not to give up on happiness so easily, when she was perfectly unable to follow her own adive. She was well aware of the fact that she would never be good enough for Seiya. It was obvious just by looking at the other women the raven-haired Light had been interested in. Kakyuu, Serenity... both so kind, both so loving, both so beautiful and gracious. And what was she? Just the “midget” who couldn't open her mouth without breaking someone's feelings, a woman whom everyone thought of as a block of ice – cold, heartless. How could she ever be good enough for anyone? She had destroyed her own chances at ever being happy. Blindly in love with Seiya, she had ignored Aphrodite, the only one who had shown a bit of interest in her in the past, and ended up losing both. She was telling Seiya not to give up on hope, although she was aware that her heart would break if that hope would come to life. But Seiya had to be happy and maybe, just maybe, if she would see her smiling at the side of the woman she loved, be it Serenity or someone else, she could find a bit of happiness just in that. It was enough for her to just be able to be happy for Seiya as a friend. Being happy with Seiya as a lover was an impossible dream.
The petite woman faked a smile in response to Seiya's reassurances that she wasn't ruining her evening. Despite not saying anything, she couldn't help but think that Seiya was just saying it to be nice, possibly to show her that she wasn't holding any grudge against her. She was far from being a fun companion on any day and it was even worst now when she felt like she could burst into tears at any second, or be overwhelmed by the urge to close her eyes and sleep. If anything, the only fun Seiya would be having will be at her expense, if she happened to shed tears all of the sudden or make a complete fool out of herself and fall asleep right there in the ballroom. The inner senshi would have probably been a far better company for Seiya. Or Taiki, but she had still not spotted the taller Light around.
”So stubborn... You may walk me to my room, arigatou”, the empath softly replied. It really was useless to try and argue with Seiya. No matter what happened, eventually she ended up having the last word – well, unless she managed to insult her away out of the argument before that happened, but it was really not the case to be doing such things when she was dancing with the woman she loved. Yaten couldn't really remember if she had ever danced with Seiya before, not a ballroom dance at any rate. That little bit of closeness which the waltz pose offered was enough to make her heart race inside her chest. The fact that her tiredness was making it almost impossible for her to keep up with the dance made her frustrated, her lips forming a cute little pout. The moment which she wished to hold as a precious memory forever was slowly and surely heading on the way of a possible hilarious memory, if she happened to stumble into her own feet and fall. Her green eyes widened a bit with surprise when Seiya pulled her into her arms. Bringing both her hands to rest on the taller woman's shoulders, Yaten leaned her head against her chest, closing her eyes as she allowed Seiya to guide her to the slower motion. It felt so good to be so close to Seiya, to feel the warmth of her body, to feel her arms around her waist. Her embrace was so comforting, so protective... even if it was just a dance which would end in a few minutes. Why was she doing this to herself? Why was she even allowing herself to enjoy moments which would, without a doubt, never repeat themselves? It was hard enough to put up with everything as it was, she didn't need the long after Seiya's embraces, to make it all even more difficult.
The sound of the other woman's voice close to her ear made her open her eyes and it was impossible to stop the tear that slipped down her cheek. Maybe she fell asleep and she was dreaming, that explained why Seiya was now singing to her. And why the lyrics seemed so perfect to her situation. The silver-haired woman pressed her tear-stained cheek against Seiya's, trying to engrave every word of the song, every note of the melody, into her mind. How she loved Seiya's voice... True, she had never said that to her, in fact she had teased her a lot about it, but the truth was that she simply adored her voice. Too bad that it was a dream... why would Seiya sing to her? Why would she even imagine that something was so painfully wrong? There were moments in which she would have wanted to tell Seiya just how well she understood what she was going through, when she would have wished that Seiya would encourage her and tell her everything will be alright, even without knowing that she was the problem to begin with.
Yaten wasn't sure how much had passed before Seiya pulled her head away and she found herself into her blue eyes – a blue so deep that it seemed to pull her in like the waters of the ocean. Every time she gazed into them, she found it impossible to look away, they captivated her, hypnotized her. Only in a dream could she stare into them for so long and Seiya would be leaning closer. Her eyelids slowly fluttered close as she assured herself that when she'd open her eyes again, she'd realize that nothing really happened. Yaten felt Seiya's soft lips brushing against hers and decided not to open her eyes just yet. All she had were her dreams and she didn't want to make it fade away so quickly. The petite woman hesitantly pressed her lips against Seiya's into a soft and tender kiss. So perfect... but dreams couldn't last forever. Slowly she opened her eyes but instead of being met with the sight of her bedroom, she was staring at Seiya's face, she was... kissing Seiya.
Gasping, Yaten hastily pulled herself away from Seiya's arms, stumbling a couple of small steps backwards, panting in an attempt to calm down, speaking harshly before she even had the time to process her own words: ”Did you make sure Serenity was watching? Is this your new strategy to catch her attention?”. The empath lifted her hand to slap Seiya but as she realized the gravity of her own words, her hand froze in mid-air, before touching her cheek. She trembled as she tried to keep back her tears. She had insulted Seiya yet again, minutes after having had apologized. But it was her fault. How could she kiss her? Why would she do it? To make fun of her because she had been drinking? Because she wanted to get back at her for having offended her? Or maybe some silly idea to steal a kiss from her because she thought that she had a boyfriend? Or did she really want to catch Serenity's eye and make her jealous? Her hand slowly fell back at her side as she gazed at Seiya. How could she do that to her? How could she steal her first kiss and make it so meaningless? Only her eyes showed how truly hurt she was by what Seiya had done. Her vision was blurry with tears. She tried to open her mouth but no words would come out. She had to get out, she had to get away from Seiya and put her thoughts in order. Turning around, Yaten stormed out of the ballroom, running into someone on her way out. She didn't even notice who it was, nor did she care for apologies. Her running didn't take her too far. Physically and mentally exhausted, the petite woman collapsed in the middle of one of the palace corridors.

Zoisite felt at once relaxed and relieved to have Kunzite's arms around his again as he kept his head pressed to the taller man's chest. He didn't care if people were watching them now or not, since they hadn't been dancing now for quite some time. In fact, he rather hoped people were watching the two of them, so they could see that he was with Kunzite; it made it seem more real, more solid. He had long since given up on thinking he was dreaming this whole thing though.
He enjoyed the feeling of his hands running along his back, a small smile finding it's way to his lips as he listened to the rhythmic beating of Kunzite's heart. Though he was quite comfortable with the way they were, he knew the dance floor was at the very least an inconvenient place to be standing. He heard Kunzite's question, the words rumbling into his ear. He lifted his head off of the other man's chest and gazed back over to the table they had previously occupied. He returned his gaze back to Kunzite, uncertain, if only for a moment, what he really wanted to do. He had teased the other man about making him dance all night, but now that certain things had happened he didn't really feel the need to take him up on it. One danced seemed enough to satisfy him for the night.
"We can go sit back at the table," he said at length, pulling away slightly so that they could make their way back to said table. He had to unhook his arms from around KUnzite's waist -- a regrettable action, but unavoidable. As he turned his gaze to look at Kunzite he found himself thinking back to earlier in the evening. He couldn't imagine now why he had found balls to be dull and uninteresting. He was having a great time at this one. He just hoped Endymion would get his mission settled soon. So he could share some time with Kunzite without having to worry about their King's safety.

"Even if I am good enough, it doesn't matter. . . because he'll always be better," she replied evenly. It was the story of her life really. She'd been foolish enough to fall in love with her Princess and it was the fact that she was just a senshi that had prevented her from saying anything about it to the woman. With Usagi it was a bit different. Her shine reminded Seiya of her own beloved Princess, but there was no mixing the two up. They were as different as night and day really. Where Kakyuu was graceful and reserved, Usagi was excitable and eternally cheerful. She supposed it was probably that eternal optimism that had drawn her to Usagi in the first place. But it would never have worked out with her either because she was already dating someone. True he was overseas at the time, but even with him in a different country, it had been fairly obvious that the raven-haired woman didn't stand a chance. Not only that, but she knew very well that there was no way she could ever convince Serenity to leave this planet and come back to Kinmoku with her, just like there was no way she would ever be able to permanently stay on Earth just to be with her. No, it seemed like they would just have to settle for being friends forever after-all. "Besides," she began after a moment. "This isn't our home. I don't know how long we'll be here, but it won't be forever. . . so it would never work anyway."
She had to fight the urge to chuckle at Yaten's next words. "Good. I just want to make sure you get there safely. And before you tell me you can take care of yourself, I don't want to hear it. I know that already. . . so quit being so stubborn and just let me take care of you for once," Seiya replied, the corners of her mouth twitching. Anyone who knew Seiya at all knew her to be pretty stubborn and chances were good that she would insist on having the last word in any argument. In particular, she took great pride in doing so when it came to her almost daily confrontations with the woman currently occupying her arms. She couldn't help but feel proud that she seemed to have won the most recent argument, though she wasn't entirely sure it could even be called that. Still it was a small victory and she was willing to take that rather than nothing at all. Besides that, the fact that Yaten had had a drink was nagging at her and as much as she preferred to think that the silver-haired woman was perfectly capable of getting herself to her room on her own, Seiya just couldn't quite feel right about leaving her to fend for herself. It wasn't an entirely new thing, her looking out for Yaten, but this time she just didn't want to leave the other woman's presence just yet. Seiya had already decided to chalk that up to the drink she'd had, because ordinarily she and Yaten couldn't be together for very long at all before one or both of them said or did something that resulted in an unpleasant argument.
It was a bit of a surprise when Yaten didn't protest to the slight shift in position, but Seiya wasn't going to complain about that. Seiya felt her heartbeat pick up as Yaten moved to rest her head against her chest. She realized she was just being utterly ridiculous now, but at the same time she couldn't help but wonder why it was so ridiculous. Just the fact that it was Yaten was the first thought that popped into her mind, but somehow that didn't seem like it should be enough to make her behavior now seem so silly. This wasn't the way she and Yaten behaved at all. No, normally they were at one another's throats over every little thing. But by some strange fluke they seemed to be getting along fairly well this evening and honestly she was beginning to wonder why they didn't get along this well all the time. It wasn't as though they hated one another, or at least it wasn't as far as she knew. It would be a bit of a shock to discover somehow that Yaten secretly hated her, but chances were very good that she was just being ridiculous for even entertaining that thought. Still, sometimes she had to wonder why the other woman even bothered with her at all. True, they were friends now but they hadn't always been that way. Why was she even thinking all of this now anyway? It was just a simple dance, it didn't mean anything. . . right? Yes, that was what she was going to tell herself.
It was perfectly acceptable to dance with friends, even if the dance of choice was the waltz and even if the friend of choice just so happened to fit perfectly into your arms. Oh no there was nothing fishy about that at all. As they continued to sway, Seiya couldn't help but notice how warm Yaten was. It wasn't particularly chilly but the warmth of the other woman's body was incredibly inviting and Seiya was pretty sure she wouldn't have been offended if that moment had stretched on into eternity. Unfortunately, things don't always work out the way we intend them too and this was obviously no exception. She wasn't sure what had possessed her to press her cheek against Yaten's and if asked, she wouldn't be able to explain why she had felt the need to sing to her. She wasn't one to normally analyze her own behavior but after tonight she figured it might be a good idea to start questioning her actions. It had seemed like a good idea at the time. She had known Yaten was upset earlier in the evening but it was anyone's guess as to what was bothering her, specifically. Alright so she probably could have found a better way to go about it if she was going to do the whole . . . cheesy, meaningful song lyrics thing. But it was just Yaten. She hadn't really meant anything by it, other than the intent of letting the other woman know she could come to her if she needed to talk to someone. Even that wouldn't have been so terrible if it had stopped there. But oh no. She just couldn't quit while she was ahead, could she?
Standing there gazing down into Yaten's eyes was, well, she couldn't quite put into words the way she felt right at that moment. Surreal seemed like a suitable word, now that she thought about it. On any other day Yaten would have pulled away or shot her some kind of snide remark, but instead of either of those things she was just standing there, gazing up at Seiya and that was probably the most confusing thing about all of this. This wasn't the way things were supposed to be, was it? That should have been the warning sign right there. She should have looked away or tried to focus her attention on something else, like leading the smaller woman through the dance. Instead of that, she leaned in and brushed her lips against Yaten's as though it was the kind of thing she did all the time. The most surprising part of that was the fact that Yaten was actually kissing her back. For about five seconds before she finally seemed to come to her senses and pulled away from Seiya. Her eyes widened as Yaten practically threw herself backward out of her arms. Granted it was probably not the best idea to kiss her out of the blue like that, but it wasn't such a tragedy was it? She wanted to say something, she needed to say something to try and explain or apologize for being odd. But before she could even open her mouth to say anything Yaten had beaten her to it. For a moment she was speechless. What was she supposed to say to that? It was bad enough that she felt like a complete idiot for acting so strangely and Yaten wasn't really helping that feeling now.
"I don't care if she's watching. If I was that worried about it I would have stayed over there with her. I wanted to see you," she managed to reply after a moment. "She doesn't want me, I doubt seeing me kissing someone else would bother her." Seiya cringed in anticipation of the slap she knew she deserved and was shocked when it never came. She stood there, staring over at Yaten in shock and disbelief. Alright so she had almost been expecting to get into an argument with the other woman, but she never could have imagined something like this happening. Sighing, she opened her mouth to try and apologize, only to watch as Yaten turned and unceremoniously fled the scene. Well this was turning out better than she had expected. Fighting the urge to scowl, she wasted no time in taking off after the shorter woman, completely intent on apologizing and setting things right. By the time she had reached the doors leading out into the hallway, she realized that she really had no way of knowing which way Yaten had gone. Fortunately, luck seemed to be on her side for the time being at least. The raven-haired woman blinked a bit and rushed over to kneel in front of her target. What the hell was she supposed to say now? "Yaten. . ." she began weakly, "are you alright? Look. . . I'm not going to apologize for what happened back there. I'm not sorry it happened. I didn't kiss you to make anyone jealous. . . I did it because I wanted to." It was the truth, she had wanted very much to kiss Yaten in that moment, and so she had done it, simple as that.
"C'mon, I said I'd take you to your room. This hallway is nice and all but it's no substitute for your bed, which I happen to know from personal experience is nicer than mine," Seiya added, reaching out to pull the smaller woman into her arms for the second time that evening. This whole evening was turning out to be one crazy ride and she had the feeling that it wasn't quite over yet. Frowning at that thought, she wrapped an arm around Yaten's waist and slipped the other under the smaller woman's knees, pulling Yaten's smaller form close and cradling her against her chest before slowly climbing to her feet. It was going to be a long walk back to Yaten's room, but fortunately for Seiya the other woman weighed practically nothing compared to her.

Shin's brown eyes followed Zach's as they were turned towards the table and then back at him. He couldn't conceal a slightly surprised expression when the younger object of his affections opted for returning at the table. Kunzite had been pretty sure that Zoisite would be more than willing to make him keep that promise and, in all honesty, he wouldn't have minded at all if he did. Not that he had suddenly become more passionate about dancing, but it did offer him a good opportunity to hold the man close in his arms. ”Table it is. The promise still stands, though”, Kunzite assured the younger man, offering him an honest smile. Smiling came so much more easier when he was displaying his human disguise, probably because smiles seemed too unnatural on his usual glacial treats. Nevertheless, he promised himself that, from that night forward, he would smile more often, even in his real form, only for Zoisite's eyes. Now that he thought about it, probably it had been slightly too hasty to confirm that the promise still stood. He had yet to tell Zoisite – although, he probably suspected it himself – that soon after Endymion would take his leave, he would have to return to their realm of darkness. Orders were sure to come from Chaos, either from the lord of darkness himself – though he rarely addressed the shitennou directly - or through Endymion. He couldn't be missing when they would be looking for him, as much as he would have preferred, for once, to put his life in front of his duty.
Kunzite felt a bit disappointed when Zoisite pulled away but he knew that it was inevitable – they couldn't just walk to the table while embracing. Locking his gaze with Zoisite's, he offered him his hand before walking back towards the table which they had previously occupied. Reaching the table, his eyes fell on the globe which Zoisite had given him. Releasing his hand for a couple of moments, Kunzite reached towards the decorative bouquets on the table, gently pulling out a perfect white rose. Bringing one hand behind his back, Kunzite offered the rose to Zoisite, with a very slight bow of his upper body. No words accompanied the gesture – they would have been useless. His eyes showed everything that could be said anyway – the love which he felt. It probably was a small gift compared to the one Zoisite had bought him, but it was meant from the heart. A better gift would follow with the first occasion, that was a given – a gift which wouldn't be as ephemeral as a rose.
Sitting down on the chair which he had previously occupied, Kunzite allowed his gaze to linger upon the ballroom. A few familiar faces – Serenity and her senshi – and many strangers. Friends, family, couples, dancing, socializing, having a good time. He hoped that they would be having as much fun as they could. His heart constricted a bit at the though that none of the people in the ballroom, aside from him, Zoisite and Endymion, were aware of the true significance of the night. The last night of peace. Tomorrow... death and disaster. So many innocent lives to be taken for the purpose of fixing mistakes of the past. A high price to be paid, but also an inevitable one. ”Fights and battles have begun, revenge will surely come, our hard times are ahead”, Kunzite recited in a low and solemn voice as his eyes slowly returned to look at Zoisite. His words were lyrics from a song which he wasn't too sure in what circumstance he had heard, probably during his patrols throughout the locations where the other three shitennou would spend their time in the city. They had seemed so fit for their situation that they remained into his memory and now that merely hours separated them from chaos and destruction, they seemed perfect. Kunzite reached for Zoisite's hand before speaking again. ”This time, I won't let anything happen to you. I won't let anyone harm you.” Despite being in Shin's body, his face showed as much determination as it usually showed when he displayed his true body. The emphasis he placed on the word “anybody” hadn't been intentional. For as long as he would have a single breath left in his body, he wouldn't let anyone hurt Zoisite, not even Chaos and surely not Beryl or Aphrodite for a second time. No matter what sacrifice it took from him, Zoisite would not be met with an untimely demise again.

Zoisite smirked at Kunzite's confirmation of his previous promise. "I'll keep that in mind later," he said. He found the smiles that the older man flashed endearing. He didn't often see the stoic figure smiling, and it was a nice change -- so long as he was the reason behind the smiles. He flashed a smile of his own, lacing his fingers with the hand offered to him as they walked back to the table. When they finally reached i, he watched as Kunzite looked back to the strange little snow globe. It was easily the best gift he'd ever purchased, as it had given something to him in return.
He tilted his head to the side curiously as he silently watched Kunzite reaching into the centerpiece. He fought back the wry grin that tugged at the corners of his lips with little success as he was offered a small bow and a white rose. He wrapped his fingers around the stem of the flower, accepting the gift silently just as the offer had been. A pleased expression spread to his features as he, too, took his former seat. He glanced out at the other guests without really seeing anything. His mind was more interested in the white rose he was turning over in his fingers.
He was drawn out of his little daze by the sound of Kunzite's voice. He stared at the other man, he wasn't used to hearing him speak so cryptically, but his words seemed to perfectly sum up the situation at hand. He frowned slightly at the words. He knew it was true, or at least it would be true soon enough. Hard times were most assuredly on their way for the lot of them. He gave his hand to Kunzite as he reached for it, inwardly immensely pleased that Kunzite was willing to be so protective of him -- even if he didn't think he needed the protection. He smiled at the other man. "If anyone's going to need protection, it's going to be them," he said gesturing at the senshi dispersed amongst the crowd, a cruel smirk playing at his lips. He shot a sidelong glace at Kunzite as he thought about the end he'd met in their previous servitude. True he had been dead long before Kunzite had been destroyed by the other senshi, but he still didn't much care for the idea of it. He'd make sure those girls regretted it too. "No one's dying this time," he assured Kunzite. He tightened his grip on the other's hand ever so slightly. He'd already seen two of his friends die and left one at the mercy of Beryl and the idiotic senshi; he had no intention of letting the past repeat itself.

Serenity had a feeling that she probably should have recognised the person in front of her, but really there were just too many people in Crystal Tokyo for her to really be able to remember all of the people there. At least, that was the way that she was thinking about things. Brushing her hair out of her eyes, she bit her bottom lip gently, the smallest of smiles appearing as she glanced down at the ground for a moment. Looking away, she glanced back at her friends noticing that Juno had left Aphrodite. Feeling slightly bad for her friend and fighting back the urge to join her, she glanced around again, noticing that Juno was with a familiar figure that she hadn’t quite expected to come. Someone she would definitely go and greet a bit later...you know, when she seemed to be in a better mood. Even from that far away, she could tell that her friend wasn’t really in the best of moods, and even know Marisela had a temper that she didn’t want to mess with most of the time.
As she looked back at the person in front of her, she couldn’t help but grin when she heard his words. Okay, so she really hadn’t expected him to argue when she told him to actually call her by her name, but it still made her smile. She also knew that her friends would probably have a fit if they knew that she was saying things like that to strangers, most especially Aphrodite because she took her duty so seriously and everything, but unlike her friends, it just definitely wasn’t in her to be mistrusting of the people around her, even if they turned out to be the biggest evil. She wouldn’t mistrust someone if she didn’t know that they were evil, and she didn’t particularly care if that made her stupid or airheaded as she knew a lot of people thought, it was just the way that she was, and people could like it or hate it, she didn’t care.
Giving him a rather cheerful grin, she flipped her hair behind her shoulders ”Great!” she said in a cheerful voice as she looked at him. She had to admit that even like the old Usagi she loved to get things to go her own way. Especially when it came to things that the others wouldn’t like her doing. Right now, she was a little unsure about what to say. In the older days she would have probably talked this person’s ear off, but that wasn’t really the way that she did things anymore. Although she did have her moments, she did know that she had to be a lot more mature about the way that she did things, and she was trying, really she was and she hoped that people saw that she was trying to do things right and didn’t think that she was still the same person that she once was.
When he asked her to dance, she narrowed her eyes slightly, hesitant about whether or not she should. Sure there was no reason for her to not do it, but for some reason it just felt kind of weird to her. Kind of like in a way it would be disrespectful towards Endymion’s memory. Although, some people might say that a lot of things she had done since that fateful day had been disrespectful towards Endymion’s memory. Biting her bottom lip gently, she directed her blue gaze down at the ground, she wanted to do this really she did. It had been ages since she’d actually danced with anybody, and dancing was always something that helped her to relax when she felt tense about something...
As she thought about all of that, the smallest of grins appeared on her features as she looked up once again ”I’d love to!” she said with a soft laugh as she looked at him ”It’s been forever since I’ve danced with anyone, and most people don’t seem to want to dance with me.” she ended that last comment with a rather girlish giggle. She supposed that most people would want to dance with her, but she hadn’t really thought about dancing with anyone except for her friends.

As she looked at the man in front of her, Serenity felt a strange excitement welling up inside of her at the idea of dancing with him. She wasn't sure if it was the idea of dancing with him that brought on the excitement, or just the idea that she'll be dancing in general. It was kind of confusing for her since, well she hadn't felt this kind of excitement since the day that she had married Endymion. Wrinkling her nose slightly, she glanced back over at Juno and Aphrodite for a moment, she had to resist the urge to invite the two of them over. The past couple of months she had been so surrounded by her friends that it felt weird not to have one of them near her, but she knew that she needed to stand on her own two feet, she had to stop relying on her friends as if she was nothing more then a fourteen year old again. She couldn't go back to being that girl anymore. She'd done too much since then to go back to being a whiney little brat. She often wondered these days how her parents hadn't managed to kill her. Honestly it was how she felt, sure she missed the old days, but she also knew that she would never go back to them even if meant having Endymion back.
Sighing softly, she directed her blue eyes down at the ground for a moment. She was an idiot, she knew that even if her friends tried to deny it. Before she became queen, anyone would have told her that little fact, now people were too scared that she would get angry with them or something like that. That showed that they really didn't know her that well. It took a lot for her to genuinely get mad at someone unless they were evil. Grinning slightly to herself, she closed her eyes as she listened to the music, she didn't recognise what was playing, but that was probably due to the fact that she hadn't really had much time to listen to music recently. Opening her eyes once again, she looked at the man in front of her...Apis he had said his name was, so she should probably think of him that way rather than as just the man, or the person in front of her. It was just that something didn't seem right about thinking of this person witht hat kind of name. Shrugging her shoulders slightly, she narrowed her eyes slightly as she looked at him, studying him carefully. Well, as much as she could actually study him considering the mask he was wearing and that. She decided from that, that she liked what she could see of him, well that and he actually seemed to be a nice person.
Thinking back on her previous comment, she frowned slightly to herself. Forever...Had it really been forever, or was she just exaggerating once again? Okay, so it really hadn't been forever, just the time that Endymion had been gone really. It still felt like forever, and well there really hadn't been that many opportunities to dance with anybody, well that and the fact that she didn't really want to dance with anybody. Until now apparently. It was that thougth alone that confused her. Serenity hadn't wanted to dance with anybody. It was as simple as that, well she would dance with her friends, but that was an entirely different thing, there was nothing even remotely intimate about dancing with her friends, and they had been the ones to encourage her to dance with other people, to have a little more fun in her life now, but she hadn't wanted to. Groaning softly to herself, she tried her hardest not to linger on these kinds of thoughts, they were only serving to confuse her even more then she was already confused right now. It was definitely not something that she needed right now. Brushing her hair out of her eyes, she forced a smile onto her lips as she glanced back at Apis once again. If she just went back to thinking positively, then she'd be able to get through everything, from tonight to, well basically anything else that could happen to her.
At his words, she couldn't help a genuine smile appearing on her lips as she laughed softly "It's true!" she grinned slightly bigger "I think some people might be intimidated by me, just you know because of what I am." she wrinkled her nose slightly, she didn't want to think that people were actually intimidated by her, she really wasn't that type of person. When he took her hand and they started dancing, she settled rather easily into it, in the old days she would have failed miserably with a dance like this, but now with a lot of practice, she could actually dance with some ease now. She had actually missed dancing, but a part of her wished that the person dancing with her was Endymion and not some person that she had just met today. She ignored that though because she knew that it was impossible to dance with him anymore and that she needed to get used to that fact now, and she needed to actually put herself out there a bit more then she was these days. She could actually have some fun and perhaps meet some people that might help her. Maybe...

Endymion forced himself not to think about how good this all felt, how right. This was exactly the sort of thing she'd done to him in the past. He became somehow weakened in her presence, and he didn't need to go losing himself in this dance. Especially not when he knew he was being watched by more than just the shitennou. His mind began to formulate excuses already for why he had done this. He knew Chaos would find out one way or another. Luck had never exactly smiled upon him, and he didn't see why now should be any different.
He forced a smile to his lips at her words. What she was? A queen sitting pretty on a throne that didn't by any means belong to her? Yes he could see why people would be intimidated by a woman who falsely ruled over his kingdom. He pushed those thoughts aside. If he wanted to get through this dance, having those kinds of thought about the queen wouldn't be very helpful. "People don't understand that just because you're royalty, doesn't mean you don't want the same things that everyone else does," he said sympathetically. That statement was true enough as far as he was concerned at any rate.
He allowed himself to become absorbed in the moment, not willingly, but somehow it happened. He had forgotten how good she was at dancing, her petite form moving in time so well with his own. He felt strange, he didn't have that nagging sensation at the back of his mind like he usually did. He allowed his feet to carry them in a few graceful turns, his blue eyes so like the ocean never straying from her face. He could feel himself leaning forward, his body acting on instinct. On some level his mind realized what was happening, and ground him to a halt before he could get very far. His eyes widened as he fully processed what his mind had wanted him to do. "Gomen nasai Serenity," he said, pulling away from her completely. He took a step back and inclined his shoulders in a half bow. He was too flustered to even be upset that he had to show her that kind of respect. "I should be going," he said quickly. "I have to. . .meet a friend."
He turned and quickly made his way through the ballroom and outside. He had to get away from all this. He had to let himself process this and find a way to prepare himself in the future for more encounters with the queen. Now that he knew what it would be like, he should be able to put up a better resistance in the future. He made his way to the grounds, and after checking to make sure the coast was clear, he opened a portal to the Chaos's realm, more specifically his and Beryl's room.

Zoisite's enthusiasm about the idea of sharing more dances later into the evening had proved to be contagious. Kunzite honestly hoped that they would manage to be close to another on the dance floor later into the evening, that they wouldn't be forced to retreat too soon. Though the idea of the ball hadn't been all that exciting at the beginning and he had nearly forgotten about it, now he was finding himself wishing that the night would never end. He had never imagined that an event organized by the Queen he so despised would end up offering him the happiest moments in a long while. Maybe to some it didn't seem like much – hearing the one you loved admitting to their feelings, sharing a dances and a couple of kisses, receiving a small gift – but to him in really meant a lot being able to experience such candid emotions. In a way, it made him feel as if the gods had forgiven him for all of his sins and were finally smiling down upon him, blessing his existence once more with a love which, this time around, he would be careful to cherish and protect from anything and anyone that could try to pull them apart.
There had been a small moment in which Kunzite had feared the fact that the gesture of offering a rose from a table decoration would seem too small, but the look on Zach's figure came to prove him wrong. It was good that, even in this human guise, the younger man was still so easy to read at times. The older shitennou decided that starting with the morning he would keep a close eye on Zoisite, in order to figure out what gift could be more appropriate for him. Much to his dismay, after so many years of servitude under Beryl he still didn't know Zoisite as well as he would have liked to – as well as he should have known someone to whom he had been professing his love. He knew the personality, the overall details that had drawn him in, but he lacked knowledge about the small things, the tidbits that refined who the other man was. It was time to change that and know more – even if the next day would also bring forth death and destruction.
Feeling Zoisite's hand into his, Kunzite offered it a very gentle and loving squeeze. His gaze followed the other's man gesture, lingering for a few seconds upon their enemies – resting only for one second upon her. Aphrodite would probably try to protect everyone, that's how he remembered, but who would protect her? Kunzite scolded himself for allowing his mind to think of her in such moments. He reminded himself that they were enemies and nothing more than that, that it was probably the way Fate had mean things to be from the very beginning but they just went against it with their romance. She was the enemy and all he could do for her was keeping himself from being the one that would end her life again. The feeling of Zoisite's grip tightening brought him out of his musings and he offered the younger man a small and warm smile. ”No one but our enemies”, he added. It was comforting to see Zosite's determination not to let himself killed this time around, though deep inside his hear he knew that death couldn't be evaded so easily, that luck played such a big part when it came down to that.
Kunzite didn't manage to dwell on the thought for too long, spotting a very disturbing scene from the corner of his eye. For a moment he thought he had just imagined, so he turned his undivided attention in that direction. Unfortunately, he only realized that his sight had not failed him and he stared with wide eyes at Endymion, dancing with the Queen. ”Impossible...”, he whispered in a breath. ”What is he thinking?”, he added seconds later, indignation apparent in his voice. It was probably more than rude towards Zoisite to have just switched his focus on their master like that but the scene unfolding in front of his eyes was very disturbing, to say the least. There was something in the way in which the two of them were dancing that just didn't seem right, that seemed just too familiar... One thought materialized itself into their head: was Endymion betraying them again? Had Serenity caught him into her spell once more? Kunzite nearly stood up as he realized what Endymion was about to do in the middle of the dance but, fortunately, the other man snapped out of his daze in time and rushed off. Turning his gaze back towards Zoisite, Kunzite offered him an apologetic look and another gentle squeeze on the hand. Not too long after that, he felt the familiar energy pull of a portal being open close by and he realized that the king had returned to the realm. As much as he hated it, that meant he had to return too. If Endymion would report to Chaos, than he'd have to be around as well, in case he would be needed. However, that didn't meant he had to ruin Zoisite's night too. ”Gomen nasai, I have to return home, I might be needed. You may stay more if you want to. Thank you for this night, I will never forget it.” Placing the small globe into his pocket, Kunzite stood up and walked out through the palace doors, deep into the garden. Once he was satisfied that he'd be far away from the Palace to be spotted, he focused and opened a portal, stepping through it to return to the realm of darkness.

Zoisite new it was foolish, cliche even, to want this night to never end. He was young, and for the first time he could properly remember someone cared for him as more than just a friend. Someone in all this darkness had found it in them to care for him. He felt that he had earned the right to be a little cliche if not foolish, if only for this night, or rather for a little while longer. He smiled to himself as he looked at the rose again. True it wasn't much in the ways of a gift, but he felt as though this was one of those "the thought that counts" scenarios. The fact that Kunzite had wanted to give him something was enough to keep the smile on his face.
He felt Kunzite's hand tighten around his own, but softly. He noted distractedly how normal it felt for him to fall into this sort of action. He nodded determinedly at Kunzite's agreement. He was determined to make sure that none of them died this time: not just himself -- though he was pretty high up on his priorities list-- he especially didn't want Kunzite to have to die again either. He was drawn out of his thoughts by the sound of the aforementioned man's voice. He turned his gaze to the direction he was looking, only slightly put out that Kunzite seemed distracted by someone again. The feeling lasted only moments as he realized who that person happened to be.
"Masaka," he hissed out, his eyes landing on their king. Their king who seemed to be getting a little too friendly with a certain baka-sama. He bit his bottom lip to keep himself from commenting any further on his actions. He didn't trust himself not to sound overly treasonous, not mention using some rather colorful language to describe a man who had once been his friend. He tried to hide the pang of betrayal he'd felt watching the actions, but was somewhat relieved when he saw the dark haired man making his departure. He was drawn out of his emotions by the feeling of Kunzite's hand again. He tilted his head curiously until he saw the apologetic smile and felt the stirring in energy to signify Endymion's departure. He could put two and two together.
"It's all right," he replied, suppressing the sudden urge to smack Endymion upside his head for leaving so suddenly. He'd wanted more time to talk, dance, anything really. Of course, working for Chaos was a full time job: one simply doesn't get to choose when to have a social life. He shook his head slightly at Kunzite. He wasn't going to stay if he was leaving. He didn't want to dance with anyone else, and it wasn't as though the other two planned on showing up to give him some amusement. He felt a, by now, familiar heat spreading to his cheeks at Kunzite's departing words. It had a note of finality to it which was a bit alarming, bu he ignored that for now. "Neither will I," he replied, watching as Kunzite picked up the snow globe and put it in his pocket. He watched him make his way towards the door before his brain decided to start functioning properly again. He shook his head and stood up, careful to remember to take the rose with him. He didn't put it in his pocket: he was worried he'd crush the petals. He made his way outside and out past the gardens; he wanted to be sure not to be seen while teleporting. He caught a glimpse of Kunzite disappearing as he turned a corner. He took a few more steps, cast a glance around just to be sure there was no one coming before opening a portal to their realm -specifically his own room- and stepping through it.
