Thats right, bought a new laptop few months back, and QuakeET thus run on my computer, smoothly with the best quality, HAH!
That doesnt mean I play it everyday, but been quite a commoner on certain ranked servers for quite long now.
Changes are simple: classes are more balanced, teamwork is much more important, and now objectives tend to be in one place at one time, meaning that its very rare you can blow up a side door or something like that if you havent done the first objective first.
Now new stuff isnt so simple, since theres vehicles and gun turrets and stuff. But mostly it just means you now have 4th skill tree, vehicles. So no matter you suck at your class like say medic, if you go and pwn the other team with a tank or something, you still get that xp and you can specialise yourself as a driver or vehicle support or something. But heres the differences for each class when comparing WolfET in case youre interested. Hopefully you want to play QuakeET after reading this and we'll meet on the battlefield before my army-period starts
Soldier
GDF and Strogg: no flamer, no mortar, mg replaced by this mixture of mg and minigun, which is really handy for cleaning up places of enemy infantry. Bazooka isnt so pwner weapon anymore, its much more like the bazooka in Battlefield games. Good at vehicles, kills infantry instantly but requires lot of aiming to do so. Soldiers also do destroy objectives so its pretty cool first planting the dyna....i mean the charge and then defending it with your own mg. skills arent that original, just "faster lock on with bazooka" and similar stuff like that.
Medics
now medics can be disappointment for most of the ramboes, since theyre not such pwning machine on open spaces anymore. You cant be a pussy and go to heal behind a corner if there isnt any corners nearby DUH. However, defending forward spawns and objectives, or battling inside big facilities is good for medic pwning. That spawn host thing with stroggs is really handy, because after it is created, it has a flag mark on it, when a strogg comes to it, he can just press an F key so he just took that spawn host, and next time he dies, he spawns from there. Very good at defending objectives. otherwise strogg medics are pretty standard medics, with one drawback: reviving takes around 2-3 seconds of time.
GDF medics can however disable these hosts with their defil..defib...well whatever those electric shockers are which you see on E.R. episodes a lot. Theyre not as good inside fighters as strogg medics due the fact they cant make spawn hosts, but they can revive instantly with one click. They are very good at keeping frontal lines or defending outposts, because they can call in supply box, filled with ammo and health, which can keep your team alive and supplied lot longer. skill tree is the same as in WolfET, except that you get "adrenaline" in lvl 2 as a GDF and lvl 3 as a strogg. Only it isnt adrenaline, it just boosts your health, so you can heal yourself instantly. More medics in your team, more hp every team member has, but maximum is 120.
Engineers arent that good at attacking anymore. theyre very good at defending though. Each engineer has one deployable, and 3 mines. deployable can be antipersonnel turret, antivehicle turret, or artillery interceptor turret which is very annoying to field opses. mines are like proxy mines, you can set them anywhere, and if enemy comes near them, they explode. You can also set them as tripmines which can kill instantly. there is also constructing objectives or repairing objectives on escort missions, so they are still important. theres no real differences in GDF or Strogg engies, only Strogg engies have the ability to lock on their repairer and make it as an automatic flying drone, repairing locked vehicle/deployable automatically. You cant do any other constructing or stuff like that while its doing its work though. after lvl 1, you get a grenade launcher or stroggs plasma launcher, which is like rifle grenade on WolfET: you have to master it in order to play well with it.
Field opses are lot more important this time, since they can deploy 3 different kind of guns. normal artillery gun, rocket mortar, or hammer. Stroggs have the same with plasma artillery, plasma mortar and dark matter cannon. normal artillery gun is the same as in WolfET, pummels the same area for some time. very good at defending locations or preventing enemy passage. rocket mortar is very good against vehicles, because you can lock it on vehicles. You can also use targeting tool to control where the 6 missiles of the mortar go, its fun thing to play with. Hammer and DMC are very powerful and create a big explosion when hitting something so theyre good against stationary defence spots like lots of turrets, or enemies camping around the same place. GDF field ops has the same airstrike and ammo giving ability as in WolfET. Airstrikes cant be prevented by enemy artillery interceptors so they can be handy too. Strogg oppressors (FO) dont have ammo packs, because every strogg has an ability to change ammo to health and vice versa (very good with strogg medics) but they have this cool gun which shoots energy shield in front of you. They deflect every bullet, but can be destroyed by explosions, and they dont last but 30 seconds at best. Enemies and stroggs can still walk past those things. Violator is bit like airstrike, but its a huge beam which comes from out of space. Its lot slower and can be avoided if fast enough but does lot more damage. Field opses have pretty boring skill tree too. "faster airstrike reloading" and stuff like that.
Covert opses are now lot more handy to the team (unless your teams covert opses are sniping pussies). They can call in a radar, which shows every enemy on its radius. Meaning your own map shows enemies too. their grenades are EMP greds, which can disable deployables and vehicles for 50 seconds. they also have some objectives this time, hack an objective which is much like construct objective. GDF CO has a third eye camera, which can be thrown to attach walls or ceilings or the floor. You can use it as spying camera, or simply to defend some areas like Satchel. When enemy tries to plant a bomb onto some objective or something: BOOM! They can also use the traditinional disguise. GDF CO's skill tree has 2 pretty cool things: first is a silenced machine gun, which is very deadly up close, and personal scrambler in lvl4, which makes you invisible to the map.
Strogg covert opses dont have any cool closequarter weapons, but they have this spying drone which you can use to fly around and spy stuff. You can explode that too, so its very funny thing to use, and it requires nothing more than just your "energy". in one Ohama Beach ripoff map, strogg covert opses have to fly those things through this small chutes to blow off a huge emp device, so they can be used to do objectives too. Stroggs get better radar and silent footsteps in skill tree, so they also have some good enhancements.
Disguise is the same as before, only this time your teammates name doesnt disappear if hes close to you, and when he hacks a corpse, also his weapon changes to enemy weapon. This time you can notice enemy in disguise if he acts weird, or runs around you trying to backstab you (instant kill) also if he sprints for too long, he starts huff, and its pretty funny when a pussylooking covert ops starts to huff like some freaky monster when running next to you. they cant collect enemy medpacks either, so medics have no problem discovering enemy in disguise. Also disguised enemy cant shoot his weapon unless he reveals itself, so only thing you have to be afraid of disguised enemy is that hes trying to get into objective, or trying to assrape you with a knife.
Those are the main differences. Vehicles really dont change anything, just adds something to the game. And theyre much like battlefield vehicles anyway, but shortly explained:
GDF has ATV for getting quickly to someplace, Stroggs have grenadespitting jumpjets for that (which are lot handier than ATVs)
GDF has jeeps for quick and moderately safe traveling, Stroggs Hog is very weak against enemy fire, but has very good "mg", and ramming ability which can destroy even tanks with one hit.
GDF has amphibious antiair halftrack for safe journey through tricky lands, Stroggs's tank isnt that strong against enemy fire, but can fire very fast when in stationary mode, and is also amphibious.
GDF tank is your standard tank, with minigun for MG. takes a lot of damage and kills very efficiently. also has SOME defence against aircraft via the MG.
Strogg walker is like some sort of badass mecha, stomping all around, and having 2 plasma cannons mounted to it. Fires very fast when in crouching mode, so if it defends something, it can win a GDF tank easily. However it doesnt have any good antiair stuff to it, so youre just going to have to sprayandpray them with your plasma cannons.
GDFs aircraft consists of fighting helicopter which can be very effective if the pilot is good enough, has locking LAW missiles to destroy turrets and vehicles, and rockets to bully infantry. They also have this aircraft transfort helicopter which can take lot of damage, and is quite annoying pest in the sky if its all MG turrets are manned.
Stroggs have only one aircraft with only one place for one infantry, but its much like the fighting helicopter. Hard to kill and powerful in right hands.
most of the fighting is still done with infantry though, vehicles are very weak against antivehicle stuff like antivehicle turrets, bazookas etc. every vehicle has missile decoys, for if theres missile locking to you. It gives you some time to evade the strike, and if you shoot those decoys early enough, whole missile flies to hell.
