Rules And Other Vaguely Important Stuff We Have To Cover
Even though we'd rather be watching Supernatural.

Registering Is Awesome
but there are a few dos and don'ts

Register with a first name and a last name. That's it. First name. Last name. Dean Winchester. Not Dean Joshua Winchester, not xXAlmightyHOTOneXx, not Xander the Magnificient. First name. Last name. Simple enough, right? All right. If for some reason you register incorrectly, we won't ban you - but we will PM you so that we can help you fix the mistake.

You can't be related to a canon character. Sorry. You aren't the long-lost Winchester sister, or Bobby's daughter, or John's brother.. Period. So don't ask.

You've gotta be at least 13 years old. It's an Invisionfree rule. Besides, we eat people under 13 for snacky food, so this won't be your gig anyway.

Writing a Good Application
how do I do this anyway?

Be smart. When you're creating your character, be sure to refer to the caps list, which will tell you whether or not certain positions are open. There are only so many slots for hunters, psychics, and special children, as well as people of certain ages and genders. We do this to keep it realistic...because there comes a point where it doesn't make sense to have fifteen twentysomething female hunters and no experienced older males, which seem to be the primary age/gender breakdown for hunters in the show.

Do your research. If you're going to be playing a supernatural creature, make sure to research your lore. Wikipedia is a good start, and there are some other links in this thread that can help you out. When you write your application, include a couple of links to articles about the creature so we can look it up if we don't know it. Pretty much anything's possible, and twisting the lore around is fine, just make sure the twists make sense.

You may only have two hunters. One boy, one girl. You can have as many characters as you want, but only two original character hunters. If your first OC hunter is a boy, the second one must be a girl. You cannot have two females or two males. There aren't that many hunters in the world. If you have a canon hunter, you are still allowed to make an OC hunter. And you can make as many demons, civilians, or creatures as you like.

You can't make your character a psychic or special child in your application. There are only so many slots. You can sign up for them in the Signups board. If you want to play a psychic or special child, check the list before you write the application, then submit the app, and apply for the special child or psychic position. We'll add your those apps to your base application when you submit them.

No angels or prophets. There were no angels on Earth until the first seal was broken, and this is a season one roleplay. So, according to canon, no-one may play an angel on Veritas. There are no exceptions to this rule. The same goes for prophets. The Prophet Chuck is an admin account, and as far as Veritas is concerned Chuck is the only current living prophet.

Spellcheck is your friend. We accept roleplayers of all skill levels here...doesn't matter if it's your first roleplay or your hundredth. We're willing to work with whatever. But we'd like everyone to run their apps through a spellcheck at least once before they're submitted. We're not going to ban or breathe down your neck about every little error...but if we see a particularly mind-boggling bit of misspelling, we're going to ask you to change it.

Applications are submitted via private message. Don't post them. Posting the application will give certain things away about your character that we like to keep secret on this board. Instead, we prefer that you send the applications to the Administration account, and you'll recieve a PM from that account when your character has been accepted.

I wanna make it pretty!
my profile, that is

Avatars can only be so big. Maximum size for an avatar is 120x120. It’s a square. Made of pixels. You only get a limited number. Use them wisely.

The same goes for signatures. Signature banner may not exceed 500x300 and cannot be more than one image. There are no exceptions to anyone. If your banner is 502x300, you STILL exceed and it will get deleted. Das. Ende.

Help! I need a face! If you can’t think of a PB (played-by), feel free to ask other members in the Graphics Help forum. They’ll be willing to help.

It's okay if graphics are not your thing. If you need a signature or avatar, and can’t make them yourself, look in the Graphics Help forum. It’s there for a reason. Post a request, or post in someone’s “shop” thread. Fill out an order form, wait a while. Voila! Sig and avatar set.

Other Sites? Awesome!
just make sure you follow the rules when you advertise

Links go in the advertisement forum. If you want to post a link to another board, AWESOME. Put it in the advertisement subforum of the General Chat section. Guests can post there, so you don’t have to sign up to do it.

Thread links don't go there. Do not put links to your threads in the advertisement forum. This is strange, and people will shun you.

No advertising in your signature. Links in signatures can only be either your character profile, character journal, or a rp thread.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT TO ADVERTISE.. If you do, and we catch you, you’re done. We’ll delete your ad, we’ll ban the account, and you will not be a happy camper.

No spamming. You are not allowed to PM or email anyone to advertise your site. This is weird, and some people consider it rude. It’s like spam. No I don’t want your natural male enhancement, thanks.

Good Roleplaying
is more than some holy water and a shotgun filled with rock salt

Never roleplayed? If you are new in roleplaying here, please read RP basics.

Not everyone lives by credit card fraud. Or uses shotguns filled with rock salt. Just because the Winchesters do it, doesn't mean hunters haven't come up with other ways to fight demons. Salt works, but it doesn't have to be delivered through a shot gun. There are other ways to get money besides credit card fraud. Be creative.

Give your fellow posters something to work with. You are not required to make long posts of 5, 6 paragraphs when roleplaying. However, please keep your minimum posts to two lines. It’s really not cool to give someone three or four paragraphs and get three sentences in return. It’s like getting socks for Christmas when you wanted a Wii. You cannot play MarioKart with socks.

Canons are not expendable. Dying of CANONS must be first approved by an admin. Your opinion counts for nothing in this matter. Get over it.

Mind the rating. Posts should be kept at a maximum rating of R. Don’t be stupid. If you feel the need to write some literary porn, fine. We really don’t care. Just keep it out of the forum. Do it over PM where no one will be bothered by it (or get in parental/school-related trouble over it). If you think a thread might be headed in that direction, please, hit the fast forward button.

You can't control someone else's character. Godmoding will not be tolerated. Godmoding is also called Powerplaying or Metagaming. If you don’t know what this means, please see RP Basics.

Miscellaneous
stuff that won't fit anywhere else

Everyone plays and plays nice. Elitism is NOT acceptable. If you feel another roleplayer is being treated unfairly by an individual or group, contact an admin IMMEDIATELY.

Dean and Sam aren't your boytoys. Looking at them is nice, we know. And we all love them here. But please don't design your character specifically to romance Sam or Dean. A trend with Supernatural boards seems to be a board full of women designed to get into the boys' pants. That's not going to happen here.

We aren't all-powerful. That's right. We're not gods sitting on thrones waiting to throw down if you break a rule. In all honesty, we haven't got that kind of time...so we're not going to be breathing down your necks waiting for you to make mistakes. And we'll openly admit that we're going to make them, too. It's all right if you point them out to us, even - as long as you use a respectful tone, we're not going to get angry, punish, or ban you. Promise.

Think of us less like monarchs and more like college dorm Resident Advisors. We live and play here too, and we just want to have fun. We'll enforce the rules if we have to - so if you do something dumb, don't point it out to us...and if we notice, then, well we'll fix it and move on.

RP Basics
just some stuff to help you out

Talking in and out of character. In character dialogue will always look like normal text. If you need to talk out of character to explain something in the RP, use double parenthesis or colons. Please crack open an English book and do your best to spell correctly and use correct grammar. Nothing destroys the illusion of a fantasy world like "hay guyz, wutz goin on in this room? r u duing huntz? kewl lol." You will be banned for this.

((This is an out of character post.)) ::So is this.::

"This is an in-character post," Sam said.

Godmoding/Powerplaying/Metagaming.

-Controlling Someone Else’s Character: In a thread, you control YOUR character, and only your character. You cannot control what another character says or does without permission. This includes changing what a character does or says after the fact. Don’t put words into another character’s mouth.

-Acting on Another Character: You may control the action, but you cannot control the reaction. If you throw a punch, it doesn’t necessarily hit.

-Physics: The laws of physics DO apply to your character. If you jump down the stairs, you will stumble. You don’t float happily to the floor with a flourish and a cloud of pink sparkles and songbirds. Just no. Also, the reverse. If you trip and fall, you can scrape yourself up, but a scrape will not bleed for three days.

-Metagaming:Just because YOU know Sally from Chesterfield is a vampire doesn't necessarily mean your character can instinctively know that he needs to chop her head off.

Just because YOU know something, doesn’t mean your character does. Using your knowledge to influence your character’s actions is Metagaming. If we cite you for Metagaming, we won’t take the time to explain it, so read this and KNOW. If you have questions, ASK THEM before you do something stupid.
