The idea of this one is to show us a peice of music written for your instrument that you thoroughly enjoy listening to and want to share. Example:
French Horn: Mozart Horn concertos <Insert recommended recording, notes, why you like this peice, etc.> If you don't play an instrument, pick something you like. I'm interested to see some obscure stuff to expand my ears, so to speak. I'll start: Solo Marimba with 4 mallets Michi - Keiko Abe Evelyn Glennie plays this quite well, so her CD 'Rhythm Song' would be a good one to pick up. Though she's not the greatest marimbist, she does alright with this one. Michi is Japanese for 'the universe' or 'the all', and Keiko Abe, one of the greatest and most influential composers for marimba, potrays this perfectly with the use of the lower registers, strong rhythms, and deep tonal structure. It's exciting and yet relaxing at the same time. A great peice to have in your library. |
