Title: Carnage's guide to day 1
Carnage - July 11, 2009 01:58 AM (GMT)
Ok before i leave the game, i thought i would share some strategies which can be helpful for both newbies and vets. I'm probably pissing off a lot of vets by posting this but i feel the game needs more good players to encourage competition. :P So please don't be mad. Also, feel free to add/edit anything that would help. This too was something i have put up for new players in GUNS in v18 (bug age)
One of the most important things in the game is to get a good recruitment. The first day of the age would play a vital part and can mean a difference of 100 indigenous population towards the end. But don't worry, even if you screw up your start, there are means to catch up. But that's left for another thread. I will be discussing the races in 4 parts.
1. Elf
This is my race of specialty. Elves are awesome at fighting and wood production. But due to weak level 1 troops, they are the most attacked race in the first days of the game. I strictly advice you use newbie protection if you are playing elf. I will explain what i usually do when i play elf. Then again.. Nobody has to do the same thing. Develop your own strategy.
1. Register with the full newbie protection.
2. Attack for a few turns as soon as the age goes live. (if i happen to be online at that time) Most attacks are for resources. A few for gold. These are carried out using my one and only troop. (May be 2 depending on the situation)
3. Untrain all the troops and put them all to work on wood at 100% resources.
I will be focusing on having the following buildings at the end of Day 1.
1. Wood level 2 and 3.
2. Market.
3. University.
4. All the resource banks. (probably level 2 for wood)
5. 2 or 3 level of gold banks.
6. Stockade.
An elf can very easily get to 7/1 at the first day end. Key is to market wood as much as possible. But if you do not know how to save your resources, better play human. Coz everyone will be targeting you all the time. Once they know you make a lot of wood, then you are in huge trouble..
2. Orc
Another race i specialize in. This is the only race i would advice NOT to use newbie protection. Strength of the orcs lie in their troops. In the first few days, raiding is pretty much the only thing an orc would do. If you are playing orc, you MUST register as sonn as registration goes live and click all the incentives. I think you should have like 300 attack turns when the age goes live.
If you are playing orc, you will need to have troops. Make ore. They have bonus for it. Keep raiding and raiding. Upgrade the buildings in the following order.
1. All the resource storages.
2. Market.
3. Defenses.
Probably a good idea to get the defenses before trying to hit the gold recruiting marks. Coz you will anyway have the troops and it would be a waste not to have the defenses and the extra recruit.
Keep raiding and marketing. Market works best in the first few days. 5/3 or 5/4 at the first day end would be pretty good for an orc.
3. Human and Gnoll
I don't consider myself as an expert in these races but i do know my way around. I will give you the basics.
I recommend using newbie protection for a Human. Of course you can register early if you like but Humans are very vulnerable to attacks. If you are using newbie protection, focus on getting the buildings in the following order.
1. Wood production level 2.
2. Market.
To get these there are a few things you can do.
Raid weak targets with the 1 troop you have. BUT MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT GO FOR 100 VICTORIES. Keep it to 99 or less. The moment you get your 100th victory, you will loose your newbie protection. Produce whatever the remaining you need. Or you can just keep producing everything.
Once you get it, untrain the troop and make all available workers make wood at 100% resources. Keep selling the wood you get at 19 and you should have a lot of gold after they sell.
Once gold starts to flow, build the following buildings and get to 100k gold mark.
3. Wood level 3. (get this before others)
4. Couple of gold banks.
5. University level 1.
6. Armed camp and Stockade.
Have some ore at your disposal to train the troops as your newbie protection expires. You need to have 6 regular troops and 2 mercenaries.
If all goes well you should be able to get to 7/1 at the first day end which i consider a good start. 7/2 would be great and can be achieved if you plan well ahead.
I would say the same for Gnoll. Except that they might have a little bit harder time than humans in getting to 7/day.
4. Dwarf and Troll
First of all let me tell you that i don't much prefer either of these races because they are poor attackers. (I like to see my enemy die in massive numbers ) So my suggestions may not be optimum. Anybody with better experience, feel free to edit this post.
As good resource production races and having sucky troops (specially trolls) i advice that you use newbie protection. You can try the same procedure for what i have written in the guide for elves. (Again that's only what i would have done. Develop your own strategy.) Now i know MANY people do make wood despite their crap wood bonus. However i would not have done that. Instead, i would have tried making A LOT of stone and sell them in the market at 19. Then watch out for any incoming wood and buy them at 19 as soon as i see it coming. In order to do this, you should have some gold banks built. (300k is a good number to have) This is not a good race for a newbie who like to have a high population. But for rank this is awesome even though you would be lagging like 50 regs to the reg leading player.
Ok i know the post is crap for most part. Will appreciate if someone who knows the races well can edit it..

Wow. This guide somehow seems so wrong. 7 is never a good recruiting to be at by the end of day 1. I can't remember the rules of the game at the time I posted this.

Gosh yes, I can't think of some major changes you'll be making to this!

Well my guess would be there use to be a registration period where newbie counted down, market started at 19 and the BM was at 20. Just in case you weren't sure ;)

Zilla, you do understand that that post was from 2009?

And population used to start at 10 , not 20 .......... back then 7 was VERY good , but I generally remembered trying to get like 6/3
