Title: OFFLAD guide
Description: it may help you, it may not.
Bob Villain - May 30, 2008 05:53 PM (GMT)
I see so many new players struggle, and well I can't take in every new player to train.
Most clans are willing to help teach a few at a time, so I took the time to write this up.
It may be helpful for some, others will already know everything I have to say.
If anyone has a question or something to add please feel free to do so.
Onlads and Offlads, terms often used in WoE.
ONlad= Online all day, meaning these players are able to log into WoE whenever they wish.
OFFlad=Offline all day, meaning these players are unable to access WoE for a good part of the day.
There are a few things new players and OFFlads can do to make up for their lack of online time.
1) Market, use the market to store resources. Sure you will lose 15% if and when you remove resources from the market,
but the average attack 25% and 50% if you are at war with the person attacking. So this automatically saves you 10%.
Doesn't seem like much but it adds up.
a) when using the market for storage remember that when you do not wish the resources to sell you can re-price them
at the same price , this will add an hour time til they will hit the market. Refreshing the market page after doing so
will add another hour.
B) the Market is by no means a replacement for banks. Its best to have banks large enough to cover most of your upgrade.
For each merchant you train, you are using more food and making less income.
2) Research when you know you will be offline.
Saving up gold to train alchemist for research while you are offline is a good way to not be a target for stronger players.
Early in the age if you are a wood producing race, and all you do is make wood while you are offline, well you are going to become
another players milk cow. And they will continue to rob you blind as long as you are willing to keep feeding them your hard earned goods.
Many people disagree about the order of research. But in my experience as an OFFlad and someone who likes to sleep at nite, I always research
Management first, then Camoflauge.
3) Produce when online. Untrain those alchemist and put those geeks to work in the field.
To use the market you will need stuff to sell. Make it while you are around to protect it, and send it to the market,or bank it or spend it.
4) Fight effectively. Use your option of viewing your attacks and attacks on you. If the attacker had 12 more troops than you, hitting him back
early on in the age is nothing more than a wasted turn. Use the player ranks page to find good targets. You can view battles, and if you see
someone has not been attacked in a few hours, well chances are they have goodies for you to take.
If you are new player having a hard time, never be afraid to ask for help. WoE is full of nice people willing to help you learn the game we all love so well.

Great advice Bob, also you can message me in game with off-lad questions, just expect a delay.

the market as a storage is more for onlads than offlads, offlads are better with large banks and full management...
i have tried camouflage, and i dont think it helps much, cause you lose a little less every time, but you end being attacked more...

I agree Ger
but a smart offlad loads the market before leaving so that their banks are empty, allowing a larger benefit from management.

nicely done Bob! Good advice for all the new players.

thanks, but really let's keep it clean.
I'm sure other OFFlads (glares at the hunter) have something they can add that they do differently than me to survive and succeed.
also if any new player has any questions, I am off work and not playing the current age, so most my weekdays I sit here bored. Feel free to ask me any questions(about the game, if you need personal advice that will cost a negotiable hourly rate  ).

On the topic of research, I want to mention Architect as it saves up to 20% on building cost... pretty handy, and also a must for offlads and onlads alike.
As for resources... Spread your production to whatever your banks can hold. This only goes for those who have management researched, but if you're going to be away for a while, then make sure that you don't produce more of any type of resource (including gold) than your bank room / number of turns you're away. Example:
I go away for 8 hours to sleep. I've added a few alchemists, but I still want to produce something. I have 50k wood storage so my maximum production is 1k/turn.

As a small change to IF's suggestion I would add 20-25% to what you can hold , you will get raided so if you produce 50k and can hold 50k you may come back to 35k still available whereas if you produce 65k you can be fairly confident you will come back to a full storage.
As far as researches I put them like this ...... 2 marketing , 4 architecture , 4 efficiency , 4 construction ...... that takes care of your economic researches ....
if you are in an empire at war you will probably need to throw a regency in there after your architecture (1 should get you until you start losing more than 20 or so mercs in 1 attack. Then finish your regency after the economic researches are complete.
The military researches you need is based on how you play but everyone should try and complete tactics and medicine as those help your attacks and build your ranking.

I'm speechless...
I never thought I'd see the day when Helmaker would have the desire or the knowledge to write a mini guide to WoE.
When I saw the post, I thought that it must have been an abridged version of my partial WoE guide -
'WoE is me. Old dog new tricks. HMFTW and so on.... From one of the minds that brought you the game of GER'
To my utter amazement, it is an original, well thought out document.
Here's a bit of my OFFLAD advice. I've become quite an OFFLAD specialist in the last 2 ages.
OFFLAD = Gold
Gold and gold banks are the offlads bread and butter.
You'll need gold for training Alchemists every night before bed, and let them go the 16 hours that you sleep/work.
Gold for training scouts. They eat a bunch and pay for their own re-training if you aren't going to use them for 8 hours.
Gold is tougher to take from yea cause of them walls and siege defense and whatnot, so it's fairly safe to produce for long absences.
ANYTHING SOLD ON THE MARKET GOES DIRECTLY INTO YOUR GOLD BANK. I hate caps, but love direct deposit.
If you know when you'll be back online, time your marketable resources to go on the market, about an hour before you get home, depending on the market conditions.
The market is a replacement for banks for ONLADS. For OFFLADS you'll need resource banks only after you have researched marketing to level 3 or 4.
Marketing 4 and Architect 4 should be your first researches. You'll fall behind in the beginning of the age, but will make up ground once you have those taken care of.
Because you have to do your battles in a narrow time frame, I suggest scouting your little but off for about 10 minutes prior to attacking, then try to get all your attacks off in less than 10 minutes, targeting clan less empires first.
If you do get a chance to pop on in the middle of the day, or you wake up during the night to pee or smoke or something, waste an attack or two, just to throw off anyone that's tracking your online/offline times.
If your a specialized producing race(Troll, Elf and Dwarf) go against the the counselors advice and produce the resource that doesn't come naturally to your race when offline, after marketing 4. Folk targeting you for your primary resource will move on if you only have 1/2 as much of what they aren't looking for.
Maybe you can work some of this into the guide Helmaker.
I'm very proud of you.....

Nice guid, just yeah I would say have storage rooms as main priorety the bigger the better! let management vill them :) when your not going to be on for a while spread resources production to all 4 resources make like 40% resources 60% gold so that whatever people hit for you give as less as posible.
in the timesyou are online do to full resources, and before you go spend as much as posible and empty on the market (if you have gold left buy something to resell!)
and about the researchers only untrain them if its for a longer period if your just on for a hour leave them researching! :P
the only addidions I could think about :)
