What if research was a resource like stone wood ore?
It would be banked once a discovery was made.
It could be stealable by spies.
Fully researched techs from other empires could be spied to get a boost to your own research in that tech.

I'm sorry I don't quite understand. My understanding of Research is that it's knowledge.. and how can one possibly bank or steal another's knowledge?? Please if I am understanding wrong clarify.

and sent out to the troops and trained with the knowledge
like how the russians got their atomic research stolen from the U.S

I can see it ,but dont know if bhaal would code it.
Rsearch could be done in 50 increments, once 50 increments are reaches they are locked out from being stolen.
the higher the level university the less effective the spies are ti say lvl 16 then no spys could could steal it
high lvl scouts could scout research , but at lvl 16 no spy scouts or spies are efective

Ugh, that'd be so frustrating and also it would eliminate the strategy of getting rid of people who farm you by going onto research to avoid getting attacked because you have nothing to steal.

dont particularly like this feature of the game , removal is a strategy of all wars real and gaming.

Wuus's troops surrender! They know that in their current state they are too dominated to fight. They must research.
Wuus begs for mercy and provides 14 food, 602 wood, 0 stone, and 0 ore,and 1 unit of tatics as tribute to their mighty adversary!

Now I think about it seriously I really do like Willie Limits idea as a fun factor that replaces slave raiding that was removed from the game mechanics. So wouldnt Steal workers just very small parts of research from those who are researching that particular research. OR not steal not take away from the orig researcher, gain the units. but only so much could be counterfeited from a player 3/4 of any research a player has. So it couldnt be. counterfeited to many or templated out from the spier to others
If I were the WoE GoD I would put something back into the game mechanics that replaces slave raiding as the way to accelerate a late start.
It would work as you must have at least 1 tier of that research completed to steal from someone else doing that same research. So its not a game changer, but is fun and useful. stealing 12 of 50 units of architech could be very useful for instance.

Sorry to pop in like this ;) Just using this partial quote to start with, directing my late evening rant to the whole population.
In fact this has become a 'who sits behind his computer the most'- of empires instead of 'war' -of empires. I've seen many many leave becouse of that. Now I am back and temped to leave again, because of that. Don't go using the war argument when you're online alot more as another, and that's a war argument, hehe.
What would you prefer more? 1000+ players enjoying a well, 'social' funtime or 50 active players getting up at night to check their account and win over the 49 others worldwide? LOL :lol: Well, a job well done :ph43r:
I welcome every new feature request. This game has so much potential. It's about time someone started this discussion. MANY did in fact, laughed at by the few forum online addicts.
I do not wish to be negative here, not at all! Nor personnal! Just, some mayor things need to be changed, and I'm not talking about a percentage here and there, but about the feel and love for this game.

I see what you mean about it being complicated.
However when slave raiding was removed It was also a fun factor that was removed.
The game is great I love it. I appreciate that Bhaal has kept it up for another round.
Its main feature is a long 2 month endurance check on errors made and errors Caught. Somewhere in the middle some of the players get pw3nd. The game mechanic was you could capture some workers from other players and catch up. Whereas now if you fall behind you have to be pushed at somes expense. Partials. Currently if you get pw3nd and don't want to delete you can do research, and even doresearch while on vacation. So willies suggestion fits in there as a reason to keep pw3ning an oppent to get thier research . To force them in to vacation mode. where they can't keep collecting turns and researching. but like i pointed out if you bombard a research player their research units are slashed.
I wasnt around when slaving was played out, but many players want it back not only for its competivness, but for its fun factor.
stealin or dealin research seems like something that could be fun to me . Has potential to make accounts more unique.
Especially if the game ever goes in the direction of clan research.

I don't like that research can be stolen or banked or anything along those lines, but it'd be nice to have it attached to the tax slider bar. Tax slider left = more research, tax slider right = less research but produce gold. Would save you having to untrain and re-train alchemists so often through the age, and just generally a little easier to manage.
No numbers need to change (training costs, research points per building etc) but would be nice to be able to research while producing gold.

Onlads still got the advantage here, let the offlads something to make it as small as posible.
