Fletcher looked at the hand as she held it out to him to shake, one of the most formal introductions since mankind evolved from apes. His eyes glanced at Harper then back down to her hand, deciding whether or not it was benificial for him to shake and introduce himself.
"Fletcher Sutton," he replied ignoring her hand and giving her a drink instead, as he signalled down the bar tender for a few more rounds. "What's your story?" he asked as he turned to face the bar once again.. |

Harper blinked in slight surprise as Fletcher pushed a beer in her offered hand instead. She shrugged. Either one works, she thought. "Oh, same as everyone elses, i'd imagine," she explained. "Father was a big name cop before the Virus, and was killed shortly after. Older brothers went off to try and help rebuild. I haven't heard from them in nearly a year. And i...well, I joined a group in the hopes of saving myself, as well as my mother and little brother." She took a swig, then turned to the man. "And yourself?"

Fletcher listened to her, "I can't say I've joined any group, I'm not one of those people who need a mindwashing organization to tell me what to do." he said plainly, he knew he was rude to say it. Opposing opinions often led to fights, that's how wars started. He took a sip of his drink and looked at Harper, "I'm a loner, I don't have a group to go running to."

Harper raised her beer to Fletcher. "I take no offense," she said, her mind following the same as Fletcher's. "Normally, i would defend for myself, but i have my mother and brother to think about. The people i...ally with help to protect them." She took a swig. "My father would rise from the grave and beat me senseless if i didn't do all i could to protect them."

"Handy to know that your family still care..."
The truth in the matter was that Fletcher's parents loved him, he just didn't really have anything in common with them, nothing enough to actually like them enough to talk to them. He was one of those Teens who disregarded their wishes, walked on the wild side and never came back to reality. One of those boys who took drugs and went out partying every night, never coming home until the police draged him back. Those days were over, but his attitude was still the same. "So, who or what killed your dad?" he asked, side glancing at Harper while sipping his beer. |

Harper shrugged. "Gang killing a year after the Virus," she explained. "THe gang was robbing a local store and he was one of the first to respond. He got shot in the process," She sipped her beer. While her outward appearance seemed calm and unfeeling, her inner emotions were raging. SHe looked at Fletcher. "So, you got a story, or are you just floating by?"

"I have stories, but none of them are really worth telling, supressed memories which don't need to be brought back to the surface." he said coolly. Turning his body around, he leaned his back against the bar, his elbow resting against the edge, with his beer in his hand.
"I've got parents, and... siblings. I don't really have much time for them, so I don't talk to them." he said detached. He was a heartless man, this he already knew. His lack of loving emotions were yet to be recovered, he couldn't remember the exact reason for his loveless heart, but it suited him fine. |

Harper glanced over at tha man. He doesn't seem to care, she thought. She downed the rest of the beer and placed the empty bottle on the bar. "ANything happen to cause this uncaring nature?" she asked as she waved the bartender over. "Just water, thank you," she ordered. To people she worked with, she would appear heartless, but she wasn't. She absorbed everything that happened to her, her family, and her city.

Fletcher shrugged, "Not really, I just don't really want to have much to do with them." he said looking down into his glass. He could have told her many stories of how much they loved him, and he pushed them away because mostly he didn't feel as though he was worth the bother of being loved, but on the other hand he was just a selfless, heartless person who loved to swim in his own misery.

"It's not a bad thing, letting people in," Harper said, taking the water the bartender had brought. She sipped it, the cool water running down her throat. "Even if it's for 5 minutes." She was slightly referring to the young prostitue who had shone an interest in him. "Nothing wrong with a little well needed company. Can be a good stress reliever." She suddenly reflected on how long it had been since she's shared her bed with anyone. She mentally rolled her eyes. Oh well.

Fletcher looked at Harper with a cocked eyebrow, before turning back to his empty glass. "If I let people in, they just use me, I get angry, and someone gets hurt. So, I'd rather not let people in, I don't want to be a murderer more than once." he said flagging down the bar tender once again, shortly after another small scotch of the rocks sat down in front of him. Picking it up and sipped it slowly, it didn't really interest him all that much what Harper was thinking, but at the back of his mind he fought with the notion that he wanted to know what she was thinking, feeling. What was he doing? Was he actually letting her in, after he just swore he'd never let anyone in again?

Harper lifted an eyesbrow at Fletcher said "I don't want to be a murderer more than once." Murder was not uncommon at this time, either as a crime or self defense. SHe had been fortunate, for she had yet to be in a situation where killing the other person was the only option. "The loner act can only work for so long," she commented. "Everyone needs someone in their life."
