Title: 3 rods blank off of the ledges
Description: coaching

Took three lads out from a local youth center for their second bash at sea fishing last night. Fished off the ledges at Clevedon over high into the flood. Hardly ideal as it was ripping through, but it was the only time slot going. They all struggled to put a lead in the right direction and/or beyond 15-30yrds! All three of them blanked, but credit to them though - tied their own rigs and were patting with a variety of baits, and out right refused any help towards casting. Whoever fished there this morning would have bagged up on my lost leads! Interesting experiment though as I've often wondered how short casts into the rocks would do, but never been brave enough to give it a proper go. Ledlensor lent some R70 head torches which was really supportive of them and Gemini sorted me out with a few rig bits. Can't help but wonder if I should have taken the lads further down the channel? They seemed to enjoy themselves though...
I'm still struggling to work out the best easy/safe high water water mark for young groups from around the Bristol area - they've only got to twist an ankle and I'm doomed!

Kingston Seymour wall on a spring may be worth a try especially for short casters. About 2 hours either side of high water onto cleanish ground. If they lose any gear they can wait a further half hour to pick it. Arrive early to see what you are fishing onto.
Send me a PM if you want some old weights

Great effort and brave to fish in that tide with young lads, right thing to do as well though so long as you didn't lose any!
Maybe a sea wall such as Severn Beach or B-O-S would also suit or even the steamer pier in Posset or off the grass further up the Channel?
Let me know when you next go as I need some more leads :P

Arrrrgh nooo! Not more people fishing the pier. I thought my ghostly rumours would scare them all away. Clevedon Pier is a safe and easy mark to fish and there is always a chance of a decent fish off there even during the day.

Ha! Funny you should mention the pier - that's where I took them for their first taste back in October and they blanked there too. This time round, the pier wasn't an option, as they were only able to get out in the evening. It would be good if Clevedon Pier Club would let my groups on out of hours - hint hint. I could even get them to join up as junior members...
Thanks for the offer of leads John - may well have to take you up that offer if we get a proper program together for them. It pains me to say it, but they want to go carp fishing next week :o

You can always talk to Linda Strong, she is in charge of the pier on behalf of the Pier Trust. There should be a contact number on the pier trust website.
Contact details for Clevedon Pier Sea Angling Club committee members are on the club website. There are also details for mebership fees for juniors and application forms on the site. We have a few junior members, but they must be supervised by an adult if fishing out of normal pier opening hours. If you need a hand with suervision on the pier pm me.
P.S. I have emailed our club secretary to see if CPSAC can do anything to help.
