SoN General Site Info FAQ:1. How do we affiliate or advertise our site on your board?Easy, just send me an e-mail at fleech_hunter@live.com with the request, and we'll see what we can manage. ^^ SoN also has a advert-trade forum at the bottom. Just post your stuff and there ya' go!
SoN General Game Info FAQ:1. Okay, I’m here...now what?Well that’s easy. ^^ If you have just joined SoN let me be the first to welcome you to our little slice of bloodstained darkness. It’s really a lot friendlier than it sounds...trust me. ;)
If you’re new my first suggestion is for you to check out our
Rules and Regs, familiarize yourself with everything there. There really aren’t many, just the basics plus the new Flaws/Merits statute. But that’s easy, and if you have any questions feel free to ask the staff. We’ll gladly help you. ^^
Then haul yourself on over to the
Game Information forum and breeze over our info. We have set mythos for races here but there really just guidelines. If you’d like to bring in your own species you’re more than free to. ^^
Then I’d say the best thing for you to do would be to check out our
Gransvale Character List to see who is alive and well out there in the city. Someone might have an opening in their app for characters involved with them. Might find yourself an easy-in. Then I’d advise you hit the
OOC Ideas and Planning forum and take a look at what’s going on currently. The
"What're we doin' this time around?" thread is always helpful for getting ideas on what sort of story you’re looking for and you might find something you’d like to jump in on (or you might want to offer an idea of your own); or check the
Adoptable Characters forum to see if there is something there you might like.
Once you’re done picking through the info or if you’re just itching to get started go pick up our
Character Application Template and fill it out. Once you’re done with that either e-mail the app to
fleech_hunter@live.com or post a new thread in the
Newly Submitted Characters forum. Either way, someone will get to ya’.
Once your character is approved you will be able to start posting in the IC forums. I hope all goes well and you have a great time. Good luck! ^^
2. Where would be the best place for a bus-station? Do I add a location?General forums can be used for locations that do not possess their own sub-forum. So basically, because the Industrial District has the Docks, Rails and Cannery, the general forum can be used for a bus station quite easily.
3. Airport...if it takes a turn in or out...does Grensvale have an airport and where would that be?Grensvale Skyport (GNJS) is located Downtown. It does NOT recieve or send international flights currently.
4. NPC's I know we can have some leeway on this and can conduct a little interaction with a self created npc...but how far until it becomes necessary to create a character around it?That is an issue completely up to the player in question. If you want to use NPCs frequently, feel free. If you would like someone to adopt a concept, put it up in the adoption area. If you would like me to GM certain instances, just let me know; but ultimately, it is up to you as the player. You are God to the NPCs you create. All I ask is that you keep things as realistic as possible. Bar fights do get out of hand, and shifting into a Were form in public is going to bring about some negative attention. Keep it real, if you please. xD
5. Can there be a -----------?Bar? Bus station? Club? Mansion? Train station? A river in the woods? An old road nobody knows about but your character?
If it should in all rights be possible, it's probably there. Use the "beer bottle" rule on locations and places you think should be in an area despite that they're not specifically named. Y'know, if you're in a bar and you want your character to grab an empty beer bottle to hit another character with, you wouldn't ask me if there's a beer bottle right? It's a bar! Of course there's a beer bottle! xD lol
Doppelganger FAQ:(also added to the race list)
1. Do Doppelgangers eat/sleep/breathe/die like Humans?Depends on the form they are assuming. Doppelgangers take on every aspect of the creature they have copied. If the creature needs food to survive, so will the Ganger. Their body functions on all levels except; they cannot breed. Some magic strain of their bloodline merges with whatever DNA they are using at the time and prohibits them from passing on genes in that fashion, though they can still mate, it just won't yield results.
Doppelgangers would not need oxygen if they could remember their true form. Bummer on the memory loss. lol
Same with sleep, if the creature whose form they're using requires sleep, so do they. They copy every aspect of the creature they Doppelgang.
Yes, Gangers can be killed, their physical endurance is limited by the creature's whose form they've copied.
Keep in mind: when a Ganger copies a creature's form, he/she is taking on every aspect of that being including DNA, disease, weaknesses, strengths etc. If they are caught by police and it turns out the person whose form they stole commit murders in the area, and they are DNA tested, the test will come back positive. Same goes for Supernaturals. If a Ganger copies another Supernatural's form they will inherit the being's powers i.e. telepathy, kinetics, piromancy, shape-shifting etc.
2. Do Doppelgangers have a gender?Doppelgangers have no true gender of their own (or really, they aren't really sure since they forgot what they look like) so many tend to take on a gender by choice. Some prefer the bodies of Human males, others the bodies of Human females, whichever suits their tastes. Gangers will then take on personality traits associated with the gender over time, even becoming attracted to opposite/same sex.
3. Doppelganging; how does it work?Gangers can take any form that is not inanimate. It could be as small as a germ or as large as a whale. It doesn't matter. As long as the creature is alive, they can assume the form and copy it 100%, gene for gene.
4. Are Doppelgangers a secretive race?Yes, as are many Supernatural races. They do not announce their species to just anyone as, their purpose has become one of stealth and guile. Most Doppelgangers nowadays consider themselves keepers of the balance for the overall good and evil. They enjoy tempting mortals both towards and away from their fates, often becoming ensared in the monumental happenings of an area or region. Humans have become their favorite target for Doppelganging, and so many have a favorite form they stole from some hapless being. Some Gangers even go so far as to murder the person whose form they stole, so that they can claim that form is their true form, which is nowhere near true since the Gangers forgot their true forms long ago.
5. What sort of names do Doppelgangers have?Gangers may have Spiritual-like names, mystic names of a more ancient era, but many nowadays have chosen to take up Human names or names given to them by their Supernatural guardians. Names like Jura, Sereha, Luan and Iruun are common Spiritual-like names for their many interpreted meanings. Each culture and bloodline has its own interpretation for such words, and so two names (though similar) will never mean the same thing.
But some Gangers have chosen to adopt completely Human names, making it easier for them to adjust and fit into Human society.
Children of the Wild FAQ:(also added to the race list)
1. What is Beast Speech?Beast Speech is the language of the Beasts (I think it's fair to assume, lol). Beast ranges in numerous different dialects from Lupine to Vulpine, Feline to Avian and Reptilian. Each species has claimed their own dialect and so limits the range most Supernaturals can speak. Children are not bound by this disadvantage, all Children know Beast Speech in and out, without having to study or train whereas a Lupine Were (or any other Supernatural for that matter) would need many weeks to study and learn any other Beast tongue.
Wolf-Were FAQ:(also added to the race list)
1. Can Wolf-Weres be Dog-Weres?Yes! Though some circles/packs of pure-blooded Wolf-Weres may look down on the practice. Dogs are the creation of man, only after stealing pups from the Wolf-Weres wild kin and after years and years of selective breeding did the dog come to be. It is a form of slavery and most Wolves think that dog’s are as much a victim to Humans as any other species. A beast whose mind is so warped that they willingly serve man...? Surely it is a sin, and they must be either destroyed or freed. You’ll find extremists on both side of the spectrum, so breeding with such a species is like a 50-50 gamble. They might be accepted, or...they might be hunted and slain.
2. What about Coyote-Weres? Fox-Weres?Coyote-Weres, yes, though sometimes the two can be distrusting of each other. After all, wolves were the purist warriors, coyotes were the tricksters. Same with jackals and any other canis breed, however...foxes are not canis, they are vulpis, so therefore they cannot breed with wolves or procreate with Wolf-Weres. Foxes have their own changing breeds.
Devil's Hunter FAQ:(also added to the race list)
1. Are there any precise positions within the Devil's Hunter hierarchy?Yes. Lucifer keeps as much of an eye on His children as is absolutely possible, but as we all know things can slip. But in most cases Devil’s Hunter see each other as family, and the older a Hunter gets the more respect he’s offered because age carries with it strength (though Bloodline can as well). Naturally, a child of a Hunter whose lineage is strong will be born strong, but age will always sharpen their skills and enhance their capabilities.
Basic Devil’s Hunter society is separated into age groups. All Devil’s Hunters start out as Implings (somewhat of a pet name for young Hunters/those just born), as they grow they become the universal Vampire term of Youngblood (a term used by Outcasts, Nosferatu, Sired and Hunters alike). If a Hunter makes it to his 100th year he’s seen as a Brother or Sister, and if he survives to his 250th year he’s a Veteran. It becomes difficult after that, a Hunter must reach his 500th year to be seen as an Elder and anything past 1000 is a Master, the eldest and strongest of Vampires.
So the hierarchy works based mostly on age, but can also work around personal achievement as well. It has been seen that a Veteran Hunter has been acknowledged for his brave and heroic feats and is inducted as an Elder for personal recognition. Most Devil’s Hunter circles work much like a clan or cult would. You have your leader (maybe even a pair of trio of figureheads), your seconds in command and your brute force soldiers; then of course your young generations looking to prove their mettle. Some Hunters covens/clans/cults are as small as a family, while others are as numerous as a roost of bats. Either way, most Hunters have respect for those older than themselves, after all, they all do the Devil’s work. They’re all family.
2. What is the age acceptable for a Devil's Hunter character? Most ages are accepted. One just has to keep in mind the reference to the War of Heaven says simply “several millennia before Jesus Christ was born” so we can assume Lucifer was cast out anywhere between 3,000-5,000 BC (at least I would, lol). In this setting, Lucifer molded his children shortly after he was cast out, perhaps a couple centuries at best later. They’ve been in existence a long time but became really prolific during the era of ancient Greece and Rome, and then later around the European Renaissance. Some are thousands of years old, others hundreds, and even more under 100 years of age. It seems many of the Masters have disappeared as time has gone on, some serve Lucifer directly at his side while others have taken important roles all around the world. It’s more likely one would meet an Elder or Veteran as opposed to a Master, as they tend to be very important and highly respected.
3. Could a Devil's Hunter have the job of hunting down an Outcast?God am I glad somebody asked this. lol,
YES. Obviously, Lucifer wouldn’t like the fact creatures have strayed from his “flock”. It is not uncommon for Hunters to be sent out to find ex-Hunters gone Outcast to either A. try and recruit them back or B. kill them because they’ll just be a nuisance. There are times when Outcasts are left alone, some just aren’t important enough to track i.e. a young Hunter barely 20 years of age would most likely be overlooked where as a Hunter who’d been such for 250 years or more would be an asset. Obviously Daddy would want to know why he suddenly turned his back on his family. lol
Lycanthrope FAQ:(also added to the race list)
1. The "inner beast", Infected cannot control this?It varies. What I've really narrowed it down to is this: every strain of Lycanthropy craves something. Nutrients, to multiply, adrenaline...something it drives the host to obtain. Once a host learns what sates his particular strain of virus, he can sate it purposely to keep it in check. The more satisfied the virus, the more control an infected has. The longer you go without sating the virus, and worse your uncontrollable fits and shifts become.
The "shift" is actually a defense mechanism to help perpetuate the virus and protect the host, but the host can learn to live with the virus and use those shifts to his/her advantage. But also, the more one sates the virus, the more the host hastens his complete loyalty to the virus itself. Soon the virus will take over completely, turning the host into almost nothing but a vessel for which to help meet the virus' needs.
2. For Infected, do they choose a shape? All Lycanthropes have only one alternate shape, and that is the human/feral hybrid, your A-typical large, lumbering anthro of sorts. lol, Depending on strain and species roots.
3. So does it conform to basic preservation of mass?Yes and no. While realism is appreciated it's not always necessary. My take on it is always "does it hold water?" If something is believable enough without being hardcore physics approved, it's usually fine. But also, don't feel the need to completely conform to any set of standard, this is a game, and sometimes certain things make better sense no matter how physically unrealistic.
Just don't go ape****. lol
