Italy's Valentino Rossi secured his seventh world MotoGP crown and after finishing third in the rain-delayed Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang.

Rossi, 30, began in pole and only needed a top-four finish, with Yahama team-mate Jorge Lorenzo the only rider able to catch up in the standings.

Australian Casey Stoner won the race on his Ducati ahead of Spaniard Dani Pedrosa (Honda), with Lorenzo fourth.

The final race of the championship is in Valencia in two weeks.

Rossi, who is on 286 points in the standings ahead of Lorenzo (245) and Stoner (220), now has nine world titles in total.

What a guy, I don't follow Moto GP but well done.

Incidentally I am very surprised that at 18.57 I am the first post of this !!!!! unsure.gif

despite starting from pole with Lorenzo in the pitlane he decided it would be fun to let half the field through including Lorenzo, he did very well to clinch his 7th WDC with a podium... well done Valentino

Congratulations to Rossi on the title. Lorenzo ran him close but made too many mistakes to keep the pressure up. Stoner's illness and absence also helped his cause this season. He may not be that fortunate next season.

Rossi showed a lot of determination though, the factors above take nothing away from that. But, he's also made uncustomary mistakes at times.
