Title: Extended Tournies?

C Bass - June 4, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
Why don't we start having extended tournies on Sundays? Even if it's only maybe once a month or something it would really fun. Please think about.
Thanks :)

More TWO HEADED GIANT!!!! And not the limited kind!!!

The reason you havn't seen much extended is that it is not the right season. For various reasons we have decided to follow the overseas seasons of standard, block constructed and extended just before worlds. So expect to see a disproportionate amount of extended after nationals. (end august)

And the 2HG?

Andrew - June 6, 2006 03:03 PM (GMT)
2HG is a great format and I'd be keen to see ppl tackle it for Constructed as well as Limited.

That being said from now until mid August the Sunday tournaments will be focused entirely on Constructed (that's normal Constructed and NOT Rav Block - as mentioned elsewhere on the site).

After Nats the scene will become much more relaxed and I'm very happy to see as many popular alternative formats as possible. i.e. peon highlander is probably out but 2HG is very much in :)

Extended would be great but how many people actually have good extended decks? Most people would build a pile of crap and lose to the more tuned decks, play a standard concoction or just dust off their affinity or tnn decks. Is extended a legit option in the Cape Town tournament scene?

I agree with Egg on this one...people who play extended are a special breed of people, a breed we lack in CT. I'm not of that breed myself, so I only offer my stance on the subject except to say that maybe in a couple of years time when more of the newer guys have libraries of older cards they still want to use can we have largely attended extended tournies. For now there isn't that many that'd be interested and i'm sorry if that offends the 8-14 guys who are interested.

People who play extended are similar to purists...decks from one expansion are sacreligious and affinity should be left dead!!!!

PS: the only real point of this post is to speak out as an anti-affinity activist! Thanks God for the banning of Artifact land (and just then 13 ninjas were sent on a quest to assassinate Calos.)

How do you know? I was just speculating. Maybe it would be possible to run tournaments. Maybe people have the cards stashed away at home and just don't bring them to the standard tournies.

Okay fine, how many people have actually taken the time to post their wanting of extended tournies? Two...Egg and C Bass. That's lead me to the belief that there aren't that many interested. If you take into account the ratio of people that post that could've been inhterested.

As for the purist thing? You don't seem to like the fact that people will just.."dust off" their affinity and bring that to the tounies therefore (since that is a legal deck at extended) you are a purist in the extended format preferring to have a range of sets in an extended deck.

There, both points answered? PS: Read my sig, it disclaims all my posts from majority opinion, clearly stating these are my opinions...good or bad.

i am interested!!! craig will be interested, jaco's interested!!! a hell of a lot of people will play extended, make no mistakes...

Great, then make a stand and demand it! Say it like you mean it. Bring out the passion! Let me know you want it, cause i'm not so sure I'm convinced.

...and CUT!! Beautiful people that's great! Ok, check the gate and let do it one more time.

I was merely refering to the fact that if there were extended tournies there would be a lot of Ravager and Tooth in them. I said nothing about not likin them. And just so you know, Ravager extended is slightly less powerful than ravager in standard cos of the bannings.

This is stated as a fact, not an opinion.

Thats all I have to say with respect to that. Im finished with this debate.

At everone else, just post here if you are interested. Maybe we are on to something.

The way I see it is that extended doesn't have to be an expensive and hard to play format. Ravager, contrary to belief is not the strongest deck by any measure in extended. The diversity of decks makes the format so fun. And tooth and nail is too slow.

Psychatog is relatively cheap (aside from all the lands it needs), but WG beats is cheap ( and uses a lot of the current type 2 staples). I am going to play WGR eternal slide and the deck cost me a couple of bucks, but the main pieces are cheap and I use loxodon hierarchs (which everybody seems to have these days). If you actually take the time to look at what's viable in extended you'll soon realise that the world is your oyster. take some cards build a deck and come and have some fun. If you lose, too bad. At least you played somethoing else for a change other than turn one plagued rusalka...

The Luckshack got a shitload of older cards in thanks to a friend of mine selling all his beautiful cards :( so you can't really complain about the stuff not being available. I just know that I am personally sick and tired of Type 2 at the moment...
