QUOTE (Dabs @ Dec 2 2009, 09:16 PM)
http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/2009/1...ne_says_he.html

I cannot believe this.  I cannot believe that New York, easily the second most liberal state in the union, behind California, could not pass this bill.  This needs to be voted on, not debated by senators who are solely looking out for their own interests.

Not to start a fire here, but...

Not everyone wants gay marriage
Plus, marriage is not a right. The state can deny marriage licenses to heterosexual couples for whatever reason it wants. Much like hidden and open sidearm carry permits. While the 2nd Amendment guarantees us the right to own weapons, it does not mean that everyone can carry hidden weapons. Love is a right, marriage is a privilege derived from that right.

It doesn't matter how many people want it or not, the constitution forbids the involvement of religion in government matters. Yes, the state can deny marriage rights to heterosexual couples, but it's not because of their sexual preference. Let's not forget that there are actually religions out there, minor as they may be, that actually support gay marriage, so shall we infringe upon their right to practice what they believe as well? Comparing this to the second amendment doesn't make much sense since weapons kill people and are dangerous, while marriage is not.

Also, that link you provided didn't work.

Remember Dabs, If all else fails to make sense in politics. The politicians in the US probably do things like that to satisfy the complaints of the largest group of people possible in order to be reelected.

I tend to avoid politics and politicians due to the fact that I don't trust people who's jobs have a requirement to be the most popular. I don't know if they're being sincere or just trying to gain my vote.

And here is a random bit of information or a quote until I change it:

The Caterpillar 797B dump truck is currently the largest in the world and has a load capacity of 380 tons. It is powered by a turbocharged diesel engine making 3550 horsepower. It is 21.5 feet tall, 28 feet wide, and 47.7 feet long, and has an empty operating weight of 278 tons. Each tire is 13 feet tall, weighs four tons, and costs 25,000 USD.

You have a good point there. I just can't believe that New York of all places would vote against something like this. We recognize gay marriage, so I don't see why we wouldn't be allowed to practice it.
