Title: Young Justice TV Show on the Way

It's official; Young Justice is headed to a television near you, from Greg Wiesman and Sam Register.

It's been four years since the animated series Teen Titans ended, but Cartoon Network today announced their plans for a new take on the teenage sect of the DC Comics universe. Using the name of a currently-defunct DC Comic, Young Justice will focus on Robin, Aqualad, Superboy, Kid Flash, Miss Martian and Artemis.

If you're a fan of superhero-derived animated series, one particularly notable component of Young Justice is that Greg Weisman is among the producers. Weisman of course was one of the main creative forces behind the great The Spectacular Spider-Man, whose demise was only confirmed in the past week – and it looks like Marvel's loss is DC's gain. Weisman will be joined by producer Brandon Vietti ( Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman: Doomsday, The Batman) and executive producer Sam Register (Teen Titans, Ben 10, Batman: The Brave and the Bold).

Miss Martian is there for some reason and Aqualad is black. Weird. But whatever.

Artemis? What?

dl316bh - April 21, 2010 08:57 PM (GMT)
Pretty sure they mean Arrowette; either that or the character was stupidly renamed.

that25lyne - April 21, 2010 09:15 PM (GMT)
I've never heard of Arrowette. But I'd much rather have that than Artemis. LOL -Facepalm-

And once again nothing contributed from the Wonder Family. Seriously, what's the deal with that? We've got one from the Batclan, one from the Supers, but no Wonder. Can someone explain to me what the legal issues are with that?

Ugh you don't think they renamed Arrowette Artemis in some attempt at sort of fixing that problem in a very round-about and rather unclear way, do you?

Plissken - April 21, 2010 09:51 PM (GMT)
It might be, since there is in fact an Artemis in Wonder Woman. She even became Wonder Woman in Diana's place for a time. She also happens to be depicted using her bow, and while her hair color is usually red, it can be blonde too. Pics:

She also appeared in the Wonder Woman movie:

Likely it is supposed to be Arrowette, and they just renamed her Artemis.

But its also possible that, being that they can't use Wonder Girl, they sort of melded together her friend Artemis with Arrowette and created a new character to be in her place and represent the Amazons.

DeTroyes - April 21, 2010 10:26 PM (GMT)
Not to mention that Artemis as a name comes from Greek mythology, which means it would be hard for anyone to claim the character via the Wonder Woman license.

My guess is, she's going to be an amalgam of Cassie/Wonder Girl and Arrowette.

I'm wondering if this is going to be treated as being in the same universe as TT:TAS, but a few years later. When these rumors first started popping up, a Nightwing image was also circulating; perhaps this is meant to be "Teen Titans: The Next Generation", and some of the characters from the old series might get occasional guest spots?

Just a thought.

Lizard-Man - April 21, 2010 11:15 PM (GMT)
I don't think so De, different art style, different characters, certainly a different production team, I think this is a seperate universe of sorts. We MAY see a guest spot from the old guys, but more then likely they're not the same characters from the old series.

For one thing, the Aqualad in the old series, not black.

Xipz - April 21, 2010 11:44 PM (GMT)
What't the whole deal with the Bat Embargo the one that says that there can only be one incarnation of the bat family characters in one tv show at a time?

I'd like an exact wording of that "Rule", as I'd like to rub it in the face of some certain People who want the TTAS back.

Robin's mostly the problem. Others can explain it better than I can. It's kind of a similar problem Wonder Girl faces. There are rights issues that extend all the way back to the days of radio; deals made when folks were thinking less about the future.

A Robin can't appear on more than one show at a time (it doesn't matter which it is, as it refers to the concept in general) and with Wonder Girl she can't seem to be on any shows at all.

Unless Aqualad can magically turn black at the drop of a hat or Dick got surgery to be a carbon copy of Tim Drake, I highly doubt it.

Who knows, maybe they'll put in one of those other dimension episodes like they did for the Ninja Turtles in "Turtles Forever". XP

But if anything, they'll have the old guys as guest stars., that is if their not to busy with bring in the YJ members not mentioned with the title. Lil' Lobo, come on down. X3

As for "Afro-Garth", weird, but a hell of a lot better then that stupid bishie they made him out to be in the other series.

If they did that, it would be other versions of Young Justice, though.

Possible, but I wouldn't hedge my bets.

I can agree with this.

Such just reminds me of how retarded that show was in trying to look like it came out of Japan.

that25lyne - April 22, 2010 02:39 AM (GMT)
I think they should upgrade their policies concerning those characters. How are they supposed to get them out there and noticed if they can't get them out there. But whatever. If she's an Arrowette/Wonder Girl cross then...ugh. Whatever. Just have to wait and see.

It's not that simple though. It's a bunch of complicated rights issues that aren't simple to solve. With Robin you can use him at least; but Wonder Girl is so wrapped up in crap from forty years ago that they couldn't even have her guest star in Teen Titans. They had to have an un-named, non speaking character that looked like her appear in the background to get away with it.

that25lyne - April 22, 2010 03:04 AM (GMT)
Never thought it would be simple, but it would open up a few more characters to have them be able to star in shows like this. It would just be a really cool thing to do, though we probably won't ever see it happen.

Found some leaked footage from Comic-Con, included with annoying fan reactions.

Lizard-Man - November 10, 2010 05:57 AM (GMT)
I actually found that already and put it up in the stupidity thread a month ago

GhettoMac - November 12, 2010 06:15 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm stupid like that. The least I can mention the pilot ep. will debut on November 26.

Lizard-Man - November 22, 2010 07:36 PM (GMT)
I'm psyched for the premiere episode! I really hope this time Wiseman's show sticks around longer. Maybe he'll have better luck with a company that isn't Disney. He always has bad luck with them whenever his show is in anyway connected to them. I'm not sure why, must be bad luck.

Anyway, once again against my better jusdgement, I was at Scans Daily (I know stupid me) looking for possible comic news. Apparently the Plutonian of Irredemable has be straightjacketed by aliens and placed into a happy wonderland where all his crimes have apaprently been undone by a magic gem.

Too good a fate for him I say.

Back to the point, saw a Young Justice thread and it was okay with a good chunk of highly optimistic folks and people who seemed genuinely excited. Then there were two stupid extremist feminists who were complaining about how none of the female characters were in the pilot and therefore it was another case of "a superhero show packed with male characters! Therefore I have bad feelings this will be sexist!"

People tried to explain to these idiots that the premiere is already stuffed with things going on, therefore you can't squeeze everyone into it. Hell, Avengers only has one chick on the team so far and even they didn't have every character that's meant to be on the roster in the first episode.

But story concepts and structure be damned! Lets overload the first episode that contains FIVE superhero teenagers breaking into Cadmus and causing general havoc and find someway to stuff one of the girls meant to be on the show in there at random. Seriously, they were getting all bitchy for absolutely no reason. The only solace I had was that there were some fellow Wiseman fans to stand up for sanity for once.

What is it about feminism and fandumb that makes such a horrible combination of stupid?

Anyway, can't wait for the premiere.

KingoftheBeasts - November 27, 2010 01:14 PM (GMT)
Saw the show and it was actually pretty good. All the continuity issues aside it promises to be a good watch.

But DL be warned, Aqualad's outfit is without footware. I know how you feel about it :P

"No, Speedy's Green Arrow's sidekick."
"Well that makes no sense."

I enjoyed it. :) Really like the new Aqualad, apparently he's the leader of the team? Or so wiki tells me. Not gonna lie Lizard-Man, I was disappointed that the girls weren't in the pilot (e/c for the brief appearance of MM at the end), but I can grudgingly accept storywise why they did it.
The writing was pretty strong for a pilot. It feels like they have things planned out (there's already however Artemis takes Speedy's place), and I'll be excited to see where they take it. Just have to wait until January now.... :meh2:

I had to laugh when I noticed that. XD How is that ever practical...

Lizard-Man - November 28, 2010 12:53 AM (GMT)
Fair enough, but at least you understand. Me'gann will have a bigger role in the next episodes that premiere in January. I'm sure of it.

I just Hope J'onn is lying to the league about her being his nurse so that they will trust her. Because if they make M'gann a green martian it will take away alot from her character.

Lizard-Man - November 28, 2010 05:11 AM (GMT)
That's Niece KoB.

In truth her actual origins are probably a cover made up by the league itself. That's hardly a continuity issue anyway since M'gann's origins were largely a secret for a good little while before they came out. Besides, you can't expect the writers to just show all their cards up front.

If thats one of the continuity issues you saw I don't really see a problem with it.

That's totally what I meant. I was rather sleep deprived when I wrote that. Can't imagine what I was thinking when I typed nurse when I was thinking neice. sorry everyone.

Anyway, that wasn't one of the continuity issues I was talking about...

The Robin featured is Dick, and he is portrayed as younger than Superboy and new Aqualad.

Lizard-Man - November 30, 2010 06:27 AM (GMT)
This is set in a universe where Superman has only been around for about a decade, Batman slightly as long and Robin has come onto the scene a few years before. Its not the traditional DC universe. It's set in a timeframe when heroes are, for the most part, still new on the scene.

So Dick being Robin is hardly an issue for me.

As for the traditional Aqualad, they say he's around.. somewhere. We'll see him eventually.

So who's up for some Young Justice pre-powered Gar?
user posted image
And apparently he along with Barbra Gordan and Mal Duncan will be returning in their super hero roles in season 2.

Kookoo-nut - March 26, 2012 04:26 PM (GMT)
wow... that's NOT the way i imagined him.
though it still makes more sense than red Gar.

Lizard-Man - March 26, 2012 07:15 PM (GMT)
Looking forward to seeing Barb in uniform myself. Bat family rules!
