Ha.
Haha.
I wonder what this huge Conner/Cassie shipper I know will say to this. Me? I don't care. The only Wonder I want to know about in any relationship is Diana. Which makes me feel sad for Donna. But not Cassie.
I noticed that this picture has Cassie with cascading wavy hair that I’ve never seen her have before. Why?
dl316bh - January 17, 2010 02:57 AM (GMT)
I just want Wonder Girl to leave the team. She reminds me of those bitchy blondes you know and hate through High School. She's stinking up the Teen Titans book with her bitchitude.

Probably just to stylize the cover.

Were they tryin' to make her look like Diana or something? Kinda seemed like that to me since Diana's kinda got wavy hair like that as well.
Man, I like Conner. But why, why her? :arg:

Young Justice. The two had an ongoing flirtation there, so the two as a couple is a pretty firmly established thing. So I sadly suspect that no matter how bitchy she gets, Conner will be stuck with her.

It's pretty simple why. For ages people have been pushing for a Superman/Wonderwoman romance, but DC would never do this as Superman has a long standing romance with Lois and if they broke that up then no relationship in the DCU would have a chance. When young justice rolloed out, they realized that they could do the second best thing by hooking the Jr's up.
I quite frankly don't care for either of them and hope they will be perfectly happy together (as happy as their shallowness will allow)
However, I bet this is how they are writing Wondergirl out. They are probably going to move her to Adventure comics with Conner. In fact, I bet this move was planned before deciding to move BB and Rae back to the old team. I'm sure that Once Jhons got Adventure comics he wanted Cassie to be there (he really liked them as a couple) That left a leadership void for the Teen Titans and then I bet they decided to use Beast Boy to fill the void.
If thats the case, I commend them for re-introducing BB several issue before hinting to Cassie's departure. Most the times something like this happens, The new leader shows up in the same book where the old leader leaves and it always feels so convienient. So good call here (if it is the case)

Five page preview.
http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=34873Covers changed too; the one that was changed for #83 is now on this one.
They really need to make up their minds on these covers.

You know, I find thats a really REALLY big themes with some comics actually. Any Elseworlds story that comes out the majority of the time Wondy and Supes end up in some relationship together through varingy means ranging from convuluted to interesting.
Kingdom Come for example, Lois had died years before and the two get together as they whip the new heroes into shape. But other elseworlds I've heard of or read, they do the same thing. Red Son, Act of God, its kinda like expected.
Elseworlds about Superman or with Superman? Oh well this is a perfect opportunity to stick him with Wonder Woman!
It doesn't bother me, its Elseworlds, but it gets old. Wish they'd, you know, mix it up a bit. Then again, most of the time Elseworlds are just silly stories that seem more like company authorized fanfiction then anything. So maybe its just the majority of shippers finally being given a pen and told by the company "Go nuts".
See this is the dangers of shipping, the people grow up and obtain ridiculous amounts of power over the fandom universe! It's a god complex! A god complex! They hold the keys to the kingdom! AHHHH!
Anyway, my own question, if lots of folks keep clamouring for Wondy and Supes together, and theres a good portion Elseworlds stories that make those dreams a reality why does Marvel's equivalent of Elseworlds "What ifs...?" have a similar trend? How many crazy Black Cat/Spidey shippers are there? Why aren't there more stories like that in "What if...?" is it because What ifs are usually more darker and more forboding then Elseworlds usually ending on a bittersweet or sad ending?
dl316bh - April 27, 2010 11:18 PM (GMT)
Marvel doesn't do a lot of What-If's these days, so it's a moot point. They have maybe two or three what-if specials a year, but these days they always focus on "what if event X ended in a way different from canon ending Y". Smaller stuff like "what if Mariko hadn't died" or "what if Spider-Man hadn't discovered the black suit was an alien" just don't happen anymore.
The most AU stuff I can think of that they do right now is the Noir line and the MAX books.
DC's stepped back from Elseworlds as well. I can't even remember the last one they did. The Kingdom, maybe.
Lizard-Man - April 27, 2010 11:28 PM (GMT)
I guess you can only do so many What ifs before you run out of ideas.
I mean, "What if Venom worked at a taco joint?" just doesn't have the same panash as "What if the symbiote got to Frank Castle?"
GhettoMac - April 28, 2010 02:14 AM (GMT)
Hmmm, fire extinguisher!?! Never seen that pop outta Vic.
Anyone else feelin some kinda AS vibe from the quipping in the issue? Cause this banter seems about as dull as the last one, while at the same time, sounds like something AS Robin would say during battle.
"Big bully with little brain"!?! Is that the best they can come up with??

That is horrible quippage man, just horrible.
Well at least they aren't annoying adding "boy" to every juxtaposition in a vaqin attempt to make it an insult.
Still, lame ass banter make me sad.
DeTroyes - April 29, 2010 02:11 AM (GMT)
Okay, did anyone pick this issue up?
GhettoMac - April 29, 2010 02:25 AM (GMT)
Okay, went to my comic stop to take a look. I'd have to say much like the last one, this was a refreshing change, only with one downer.
Okay, let's start off after the five page preview. After that....well, it's pretty much more fighting and bad banter. The only good banter seems to be coming from the villains. Anyway, once Cassie's free, everyone else starts coming to or breaking free, while Conner, Bart, and Vic continue to to put Holocaust out. Raven, however, is still unconscious from Meg's psyche blast, which adds in some distrust from Bombshell. Back at the battle scene, the Titans are putting put out the ragging fire around them........by having Vic, Jamie, and Bomb blast it (I don't get it either) while Cassie and Gar evacuate civi's. During this, Static hacks into to the computer system to find out out what they got on this virus that infected Dakota, when BOOOOM, Holo blows the place sky high.
Thinking he's won, Holo calls up accountant to write off the warehouse when he gets decked by Conner and Bart, who are beyond pissed thinking that the Titans are dead. When out from the ground pop the Titans, thanks to Gar......who from what I can see....is a phoenix. Anyways, back together, they lay a hurting on Holo, and for the qu de gra, Bart spins up a vortex so fast that when he stops, it creates a vacuum so powerful it sucks Holo to the earth's core, which according to Static, is still too tough for the core to kill him. The only downer (as I mentioned) in this is Cassie still gets the credit as leader.
In the end, outta nowhere, the "Control Freak" guy turns out to be the Ox head from the Wyld, destroys the Titan's ship, opens a dimensional rift, and escapes with Raven while Gar tries to stop the guy.......as a dragon.
All in all, bad banter from the good guys, good banter from the bad guys, Conner, Bart, and Cassie hogging the credit, transformations in Gar that we haven't seen in a while, and the hunt for Raven story-line beginning earlier then we thought.

Cassie... gets credit... as leader...
NEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

Gar as phoenix and as a dragon.
Who says he's got a wimpy power?
So, Vic is with them as they go after Raven?

Actually, no. When theOx head blow up the ship, the Titans that can fly were busy catching the Titans that couldn't fly. Even the ones that were just flying were just standing there. Gar was the only one headin after Raven. In the end, this kinda ended like the "date issue", with Gar shouting the heavens.

As cool as it seemed, it didn't prove to be very effective. In fact, it looked like Gar was aiming his fire at Raven more then the Ox head, but that probably from the perspective view.

How do you get credit for something when you were stuck in a bubble for an issue or so and didn't do anything?
How is it that everything they do with Cassie just makes us hate her more?

My guess is she got it when after phoenix Gar brought everyone to the surface, she took command and "organized" the the take down.
Still, you can't help but the question again.
Lizard-Man - April 29, 2010 04:15 AM (GMT)
Seems more like it was a team effort and she wouldn't have been able to give those orders if Gar hadn't done what he did. He deserves some kudos is all I'm saying.

Oh, Vic give him total credit for sure. And I'm pretty sure the others do too, even though they didn't say anything.
that25lyne - April 29, 2010 04:21 AM (GMT)
Maybe the writer is just...fond of Cassie. I dunno. Biased, then.

Meh, whatever, I'm just pessimistic a bit and bias myself.

As most of this issue was battling with Holocaust, just got three scans to share.
Unconcious Rae is unconcious.

Gar bust the team out from the ground.

Now that is a cool lookin' pheonix....and who took Casey's forehead?
The last page, Control Ox Head Freak making a getaway with Raven...FLLOOOOOMPP.

Have we ever seen Gar as a dragon before? I like dragon Gar.
DeTroyes - April 29, 2010 02:47 PM (GMT)
Some comments:
1) Phoenix Gar... looks an awful lot like Raven when she's attacking in her soul-self mode. A clue?
2) Gar has been a dragon before. He was a Chinese dragon when he killed Madame Rogue, and in the X-Men/Teen Titans crossover he took on the form of a giant Lockheed:

So far as I can recall, that's been it.
3) That last page read more like a comic strip than a comic book. I think Henderson simply ran out of room and decided to cram as much as she could on the last page.
4) Gar is really poorly drawn in that last panel.
Xipz - April 29, 2010 02:58 PM (GMT)
Is it just me, or does Vic look like the terminator, crawling on the ground?
Plissken - April 29, 2010 05:32 PM (GMT)
Who designed the T-Jet?
Because putting critical systems in the top of the jet where puncturing a hole causes the whole jet to begin exploding was probably a huge design flaw.
Also, I assume their ejection system needs work. Why?
Well, besides the fact that there is no way a hole in the roof of the jet would cause all of them to suddenly fall out the bottom, they somehow ended up falling several hundred meters away from the side of the jet, and are in fact falling at the same level of the jet. So I assume with critical damage, a teleporter activates to move the occupants a safe distance away from the jet immediately... though apparently without any sort of safety feature for the non-fliers.
That's some pretty bad design.
In short, I agree with DT; I think Felicia ran out of room, what with all that witty banter sucking up panels early on, and had to shove in the rest of the story into a page.

Keep your fingers crossed, but its sounding like we're going to get an announcement of some kind in the coming weeks. Hopefully it will be a writer change after the Wyld arc ends.
dl316bh - April 29, 2010 06:17 PM (GMT)
Love that sound effect.
FLOOOOMP.
My goodness, Cassie is a total bitch, but we knew that already, didn't we.
Wait a second, is that...
GAR'S GOT SHOES ON AGAIN!
Also, I'm wondering now if Vic is going to be guest starring in the Wyld arc.

It reminded me more of comics from the early eighties on back. Especially Silver Age Superman. Those comics were so compressed most of the storytelling was done through text and the art often came off more like a slideshow.

I've seen much, much worse; but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to someone better on the book.
Felicia was tossed on a book with high expectations for her first assignment. It shouldn't come as a surprise she's had loads of difficulty living up.

Man, if that were really what it was, that would be the most meta thing I could think of in a comic book this side of Morrison.
Plissken - April 29, 2010 06:20 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't say she sucks--she's green. I mean, honestly, Gar has been a bit better than he was under Judd's pen. At least he's not being an obnoxious jerk... a bit impotent, but at least not grating to be around.
But, yes, she's very green, and I don't see her staying on the series too much longer, unless DC really does feel like Teen Titans is a sub-par book not worth their attention (it does seem that way sometimes).
Still don't know what to make of what she's doing with Gar and Rae. Also wondering if Miss Martian will end up being a traitor--either because of mind control from the wild, possession from her white Martian doppelganger (that was never resolved), or because she actually decides to betray them. Something might be up--its possible that Miss Martian was purposely keeping Raven in a coma to make her easy to catch. guess we'll see.
dl316bh - April 29, 2010 06:36 PM (GMT)
Doubt it. Not with Miss Martian as a featured character in the Young Justice cartoon. I wouldn't be surprised if the evil future self thing came back into play though.
Lizard-Man - April 29, 2010 06:51 PM (GMT)
I don't like the art overall, and the last scan, panels seem a bit confusing, like we're missing some things. Like how does everyone fall out of the jet? Where's our transition of that? One second fat dude is punching out, the nexty bam everyone is free falling.

I mean, look at him! Fat overweight guy in a superman shirt too small for him; that alone screams "fanboy" stereotype. And now he's running off with Raven (who seems to have a large number of over protective fans) back to his home dimension and taking her away from that vile shape-changer who isn't nearly good enough for her. Its practically a SAPOR wet dream!
OK, I'm probably way off base. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if at least some of that was deliberate as a subtle swipe at certain fans.
