She's cold and she's cruel, but she knows what she's doin'

“she's cold and she's cruel

{Name: Susanna Driscoll
{Nicknames: Suze, Zan, 'Anna
{Age: Ageless; looks about 23
{Gender: Female
{Species: Immortal (of Deception)

“but she knows what she's doin'

{Occupation: Susanna is a (weekly) gossip/humor columnist for the local newspaper-- The Providence Journal aka "Projo"-- and an occasional street performer. She's also finishing up her formal schooling at Brown University RISD to be an actress.

”knows just what to say

{Skills and Abilities: As the Immortal of Deception, Susanna has a small handful of... "abilities." To be specific, she can "shapeshift" (to an extent), fabricate illusions, perform sleight of hand (minor and major), and can discern lies. In detail--

Susanna can change her appearance at will. Whether into another person with different clothes, or a lamp post off the sidewalk with chipping paint, or a stray cat with a broken tail; it doesn't matter. Nobody but her fellow immortals and the higher-class demons/angels can tell the difference.

But she can't/doesn't just change how she looks; she can change how anything looks. Whether it's to get a good laugh out of watching someone's reaction when she makes them think they're seeing their keys locked in their car, or to make an assailant think they're lost, she can do it. Humans and lower-level demons/angels are easily fooled by her trickery; Immortals and those of higher levels... not so much.

Sleight of hand-- usually only attributed to magicians or pickpockets. Susanna can do it. She can easily lift a gentleman's wallet from the inside pocket of his blazer, or replace an attacker's weapon with a bouquet of flowers. From simple card tricks or jugglery, to relieving a security guard of his undergarments with him none the wiser; Susanna's a pro. More than a pro; she invented the game.

As the Immortal of Deception, Susanna simply cannot be lied to or tricked. She's bored to tears anytime someone tries to feed her a falsity, and she laughed to herself when the Trojan's built their gift-horse. Street magicians lose money to her, and the FBI/CIA can only wish they WERE her.

{Weaknesses: It is uncomfortable for her to shapeshift into things other than a human. She can, no problem-- she just doesn't like to. And it sort of makes her itchy, sore, or gives her headache.

She has an irrational fear/aversion of 100% pure elements. They're the most honest things on the planet-- they are what they are and simply cannot be anything else. For example, throw a handful of manganese chips at her and it'll have the same effect as plugging a Jumper up to 1000 volts (see "Jumper" the movie).

”so my whole day is ruined

{Height: 5' 8'' (or whatever she changes it to)
{Weight: 129 lbs (or " ")
{Build: Very slim, and slender. She has her feminine curves, but since she's thin it's like they're stretched at the top and bottom-- making her look longer rather than rounder-in-the-right-places. She has apparent muscle under her fair, petal-pink and white skin; evidence that she's more than just a pretty face.
{ Hair: Usually dark brown dyed blond at the front; but she changes it whenever she likes.
{Eyes: Faded, sage-green eyes with the pupil ringed in a small sun of army-color khaki.

{Appearance: Susanna likes to be her own stylist, make-up/costume team, and dress-up doll. She'll blow her entire paycheck on a single scarf if she thinks it's worth it. She's fashionable to a fault (though what fault could that be?) but shies away from designer clothes. However, she dresses for comfort first and style second. You can see her walking down the street in a retro outfit of ripped jeans and over-sized hoodie on a day when she's feeling lazy.

And, the fun part is, it doesn't really matter what she wears. She has the kind of body type prepubescent girls across the globe can only dream about. Sure, it's a little on the too-skinny side, but other than that... it'll make most fellows of the fairer sex sigh with envy and certain of the opposite turn the necks for a second peek.

She likes to play around with her hair, but has generally come to the conclusion that shorter to compliment her dramatic cheekbones and jaw line goes best. Her nose is straight and dignified, pointing almost arrogantly toward but away from her small, but potent lips and nostalgically childish chin. Her graceful, swan-like neck holds her regal head erect from her set, sloping shoulders.
{Face Claim: Erm... "Eros," I guess.

”cause she's bittersweet

{Personality: Susanna is intelligent, clever, and very witty. She halfway loves to argue; only halfway because she only loves it if she wins. She's never, ever bored-- and simply adores a challenge. Which, it happens, is hard to find for the Immortal of Deception. What can trick her? And so she lives for riddles. They are the only things she cannot immediately figure out, because it is a question posed with an answer that needs to be found-- not a purpose or end that is either right or wrong.

She is somewhat on the self-centered side, in the which that she cannot ever be bested, wrong, or slandered. She is generally very patient with problems and people; but that is akin to a very long fuse leading to a very large bomb. (Know what I mean? -nudge, nudge, elbow, elbow-) Susanna is relatively vengeful-- wanting compensation for whatever she was cheated, but not to the extent of pure maliciousness or sadism. Sure, she likes to laugh at people in confusion; but not necessarily pain.

Susanna is a fun-loving soul. The only problem comes in where she likes to get her fun. Usually, that is in the form of one-upping someone in mind games, causing a gaggle of biddies to titter about some not-necessarily-true (haha) news, spreading rumors, telling lies, stealing childrens' left socks, and other such mildly unpleasant things that cause confusion and... gasp! Deception. It's not that she's a black-hearted fiend, no. She just rules deception. Can you blame her? I mean, honestly. Some people just do make the funniest faces when they don't know what the heck is going on.

Strategy escapes Susanna. Chess and other such games only serve to irritate her. She's an opportunist, a go-getter. She acts on impulse, and very rarely plans anything. Her instincts run her life, and that sometimes gets her into compromising situations. But, really. Jail's not so bad when you can convince the jailer that it was all a mistake. (The perks of lying through your teeth so well it's 99% a truth. To others, anyway.)

She's childish and occasionally immature. She's unpredictable and likes to think that everything is a game; and if anyone bumps, hinders, or tries to stop that game, they're instantly on her Black List. And that list is burned into her mind like a tattoo on your eyelid. They say an elephant never forgets, but that's comparatively pathetic to the impeccable memory of someone who weaves and upkeeps lies in her sleep.

{Likes: Riddles, puzzles, word searches, mazes, animals (to an extent), trees, storms, cooking/baking, games/playing, laughing, music, Immortal of Chaos (friendly), being right, etc.
{Dislikes: Poodles, stupidity (most of the time), cloudless days, chess, rigidity, honesty (obviously), structure, flowers, etc.
{Habits and Quirks: She runs her tongue along the bottoms/tops of her teeth when she's nervous, has a tendency to chew on things when she's thinking/concentrating (her lips, cheeks, a pencil, her knuckles), grinds her teeth/clenches her jaw when she's irritated, can't help bouncing or skipping when she's unabashedly happy, hates hates HATES waking up earlier than nine AM, but has a tendency to stay up late. Hm.
{Other: She has various tattoos-- that she got the ACTUAL way (she didn't just make them appear cuz she felt like it. She has a sort of Celtic, tribal dragon in black and blue across her upper back spanning from shoulder blade to shoulder blade and down to her mid-back. Her left shoulder is capped by a red-and-orange rendition of Earth. The inside of her right wrist sports an inch-and-a-half long bar code complete with "Made in the U.S.A." underneath and, randomly, dice dangling from the A.

”she knocks me off of my feet

{Family: As she doesn't really have a "real" family to speak of, she considers her fellow Immortals her "family," most of the time-- complete with favorite sibling and semi-bitter rival. Some people (and/or angels or demons) she meets, however, she deigns to consider friends. Or at least pleasant acquaintances.

”and I can't help myself; I don't want anyone else

{Birthplace: She doesn't really remember ever not being Immortal, or ever not being her 23-looking self (which may be why she seemingly is compensating by being somewhat childish), but for some reason she's always been attracted to Europe. Specifically Italy. (Which may be why she loves Italian food so unnaturally much.)
{History: Her way-back-there past is, strangely, a blur to Susanna. She cannot remember ever being born, or raised, or going through puberty, or (as stated above) ever not being her Immortal, 23-looking self. Most of her unending life, however, she has spent traveling the world. She liked some places better than others-- specifically Italy. She "settled down" (in a sense) for many, many years there. Sure, it had been hard; she'd had to change her appearance nigh-constantly to keep from raising suspicion by the whole never-aging thing, but it had been worth it. At least, she thinks so.

Which is slightly strange, if you know her. She is definitely not the happily-sit-still-and-be-quiet type of girl. No, she likes/liked her nomadic lifestyle-- how she got to move whenever she wanted and stay however long she wanted. But for some reason, from the moment she stepped onto Italy's shore from a small fishing boat she'd sort-of hijacked from Greece, she loved it. Maybe it was how everyone spoke one of the most beautiful languages in the world. Maybe it was the incredible cuisine and how she was ALLOWED, even encouraged, to take a break from work and nap in the middle of the day. Maybe it was just the romantic, semi-antique air about the entire, family-like country. Whatever it was, she hung out there for decades upon decades.

Until Mussolini in World War II. The dictator, she knew, led away the hearts of those loving, beautiful, big-hearted and loud people with propaganda. With promises. With pretty speeches.

With lies.

She blamed herself for the pain it brought to her favorite people in the world. She knew it had to have been her continual presence in that country and that side of the world that had kindled all the dishonesty that later betrayed thousands and millions.

Which, again, is odd for Susanna. She never feels guilty for any confusion she causes. She usually glories in misleading people and making them believe something of her fabrication. But there is one thing she is not-- and that is a sadist. She doesn't watch pain. Not sorrow, not misery, tragedy, death.

So, she hitched the next boat out to America. She needed to be nearer to Truth. (The Immortal of Truth, that is.) To balance herself out. Her carefree existence needed a buffer. So she roamed the Northern American continent. She spent a couple of decades or so in Canada, and eventually ended up in Rhode Island. Providence, to be exact.

”she's a mystery, she's too much for me

{Role-playing Sample: (This isn't Susanna. I hope that's okay.)
QUOTE
It was late at night (like it usually was) and she was still awake (like she usually was), but this time she had no idea way. Well, that wasn't entirely true— there were too many reasons, so she thought it would just be easier to say there weren't any.

She was dressed for sleep in her usual livery of boy boxers and the shirt she'd been wearing all day; but, as shown by her rumpled and twisted sheets and blankets, the Sandman had eluded her entirely. She lay on her back, her arms and legs casually spread eagle, auburn hair in disarray across the pillow, and gray eyes roaming the ceiling of her bedroom aimlessly. She idly read over again all the quotes she'd stuck up there on different colored paper, in different styles and different ways. It was funny— she'd read them all so many times, but each time she did so she was surprised at what she found, instead of having long ago memorized them.

As was her habit whenever personally distressed— as she obviously was tonight, signified by her body's rejection of rest—, she closed her eyes and watched the black of the back of her eyelids. She would wait until her mind registered one color in particular out of the whorls and sparkles her tired eyes and imagination produced. She would then opened her eyes and the first quote she saw with that color on it, she would read. Usually, it would help her out of whatever funk in which she was stuck. So, she waited and almost immediately saw only pure white, opened her eyes, and proceeded to read.

“'Experience: The most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn.'
-C.S. Lewis”

Her thin, expressive mouth twitched into an ironic smile. Learning, she definitely was. Whether she liked it or not, wanted to or not. But that quote didn't exactly help her situation; it just restated it. So she repeated her process, and read the next quote.

“'Even if you have nothing to write, write and say so.'
-Marcus Tullius Cicero”

Now that was specific. Her eyebrows furrowed and she half-involuntarily turned her head and looked at the laptop perched on her desk. It looked almost expectant as it sat there, back to her, and she realized that maybe getting everything down would soothe her agitated subconscious and she could sleep. Isn't that why some people went and talked to therapists and psychiatrists? Supposedly talking about your problems and saying them out loud made your brain or soul or whatever click, and fix yourself? She blinked a few times, glanced off to the side somewhere while she considered, and chewed the inside of her cheek. Then she promptly shrugged, thinking, Oh, what the heck. It couldn't possibly make anything worse, and pulled herself from off the bed.

Sitting in her comfortable, reclining, “office”-type chair in front of her laptop, she started it back up and watched the status bar as it loaded. She logged in, waited for that to finish, and opened up a blank document. After a second, a straight, perky little black cursor winked at her at the top of the cyber sheet of “paper,” and she hesitated. She eased in a breath through her nose, and sighed it out between her lips. How was she to start? She raised her hands, and her fingers stretched across the keyboard and landed in their familiar position. A half-amused, half-sheepish smile teased one side of her mouth and she laughed softly out her nose. Her fingers moved.

ACCEPTED!

I love the intro. :3 and it's fine about the roleplaying sample. Just one thing; RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) is the school for acting, not Brown. That's OK, though.
