Providence Train Station If you're going somewhere out of the city, this is your first stop, unless you have a car or are taking an airplane. These trains go to places like Boston or as far away as California (well, you have to change trains in between, but it'll take you on the first leg).

Johnson and Whales The culinary arts and business school of Rhode Island is located here. If you want to be a chef or an accountant, this is where you come. (Paul Mitchell is for hairdressing, sorry.)

City Hall Less fancy than the state house, City Hall is still decked out in marble. It's a great place for politician spotting, if you're into that kind of thing.

Providence-Newport Ferry This high speed boat will take you from Providence to Newport in a flash. For a price, of course. It may be cheaper to drive.

The Cheesecake Factory Not actually a factory, but fine dining. They make the most delicious deserts ever. Of course, good food comes with a price, and as a result it is an extremely expensive restaurant.

Providence Place Mall A popular hangout for everyone, Providence Place is three stories of shops, and a fourth story containing a movie theater, the IMAX theater, and Dave and Busters. There is a large food court, and the whole place contains over 170 stores. There is a large (though tricky) parking garage and a few restaurants on the bottom floor.

Providence Public Library Full of books, this library probably has everything you need. It has a children's section, as well. If it doesn't have what you're looking for, you can always use inter-library loan and borrow a book from elsewhere in the state.

The Highway This confusing mess of bridges and roads can get you anywhere you need to go, if you know the way. It spans the Blackstone River, which runs through the city. It is currently being redone to make it less confusing, but that process will take another five years or so. Only motorized vehicles. When driving down the highway, be sure to keep an eye out for Nibbles Woodaway, the largest bug in the country, also known as 'The Big Blue Bug'.

Mill Apartments High class living in the center of the city. Facing the mall, these apartments are remodeled mills and factories from the industrial revolution. They are rather expensive to live in, but they come with their own kayak rack.
