I know with guitar and bass theres standard tuning (EADG/BE) and Drop-D (DADG/BE) but have you ever heard of Drop-C?

I read that to have Drop-C on guitar/bass, you need different strings that can work with going that low. Does anyone know:

A) if this is true?
2) how to reach Drop-C?

I read its something like taking the low E down to C, and then changing ever other string by a semitone...?

Any help? Is it worthwhile? huh.gif

Sorry it took me so long to get around to responding to this-

To get that low open C - it's going to be much easier if you have a 7 string guitar, seeing as standard american tuning for the extra string is a low B (brazillian styles generally use a low C and drop to a B )

It's not impossible to get it on a 6 string guitar - tuning down your low E string two steps. However odds are your string will be too loose to get a good sound out of it.

Since the semi-recent nu-metal craze, 7-string guitars have been getting increasingly easier to come by, since that's how they accomplish drop-C.

I'd never even heard of a 7 string guitar until I saw Dino Cazares' ex-band Brujeria. (He played a seven string Ibanez with an extra fret so he could play lower).

Well, I wasn't so much wondering for guitar, but yeah I see what you mean really, I was wondering for Bass...

Would it work on a six string bass? Cause I know they go BEADGC but could they go CBEADG? I doubt I'll ever use it, but it's nice to know these things when you're trying to play something a little different.

You really only need a 5-string bass.

BEADG

You can tune the B up to a low C.

Great. (I only said six string cause you were on about guitars i think).

I really want a five string bass, so to have the option of Low B, Drop C and Drop D all on the one bass is a godsend. Doesn't help that the ones I like are either out of the colour I want, or are made in Korea. dry.gif

But thanks anyway! Just means I have to get through my exams and I'll have a shiny new five stringer to ask questions about! =D

I bought an LTD B-55, other than a few things with it (due to poor care it recieved in the store) it has served me quite well. And being an LTD, you can probably get it in the color you want.

Sorry for the double post -

But if you want to hear something fairly amazing, check out the song "Hanging On A Star" by Nick Drake.

I'm fairly certain that he has his 6-string tuned down to a BF#BEBE.
