Admin Validation for New Accounts |
| Posted by Avarí - 10-18-07 10:03 - 1 comments |

I'm sorry to say that it's come to this, but from now on, whenever a new account is made, an administrator is going to have to approve to account before said new user can post. While I realize this is something of a hassle for people who want to get in and start posting right away, I can think of no alternative to stop this flood of advertisers.
Almost every morning, I wake up, log into Taiar, and see some sort of ad posted on my boards. I'm sick and tired of it, and I refuse to just sit here. All I can do is delete the topic, ban the IP, and delete the member. But more keep coming, and coming, and coming.
So my solution to all this is, new members/accounts will have to have an administrator validate them before they can post. Now, I'm not going to get all persnickety about it, I promise. I can promise that probably 95% of all the names will get approved- this is just to stop those who think that putting ten thousand numbers in their name (2287667) or ad names such as "tyme2pe" from being able to post.
I'm very sorry to all the people who are honestly joining for the joy of role-playing. I can't assure you same-day validation, but I do promise to get it done as quickly as possible. I'm on Taiar every morning for ad sweeps, and I try to get on in the afternoons/evening when my homework permits me. I am more than happy to take every opportunity that I am online to help get validations done and over with so you can start posting, and I'm sure the other admins will feel the same way.
Again, I really am very sorry to have to do this to ya'll, but I've given you my reasons, and I hope you all understand them.
You crazy head admin, Ava |

Locations Update |

Carol and I have reached an agreement that the Location threads have a small (but fixable) flaw. Posting in these threads, despite the fact that they are OOC, still increases your post count. While some people wouldn't really give a flying monkey's howl about it, others would not, I am afraid to say, be above using this little glitch to increase their post count, so that they can sooner apply for positions of power, such as god/dess, royal family member, etc. Posting repeatedly int these threads would enable them to increase their post count without having to work.
So, in order to combat this, I have come up with this solution: All these threads will be LOCKED, and anyone wishing to make an addition may PM either Myself or Carol on her Pathos account (or both of us, if you think you'll die if it doesn't go up in the next 10 seconds), and one of us will add it to the locked topic.
While I realize this is something of an inconvenience to many of you, and I do not want to question the integrity and honesty of any of you, those of you who truly didn't think of this won't mind, I don't think, in order to ensure that all posts are earned fairly.
Thank you for your time -Ava |

Part of the problem with co-creating a world between a group of people is in the little details about location and NPCs (non-player characters, or the random characters you invent to help fill in a storyline that don't belong to any one account.) While it is easy enough to invent an inn to stay in or a guardsman or an elf traveller if you happen to need them, what's harder is to mantain consistancy - so that two characters, in two different threads, can visit the selfsame inn.
Bianca brought this problem to light and I like the way she had of dealing with it, so you will see a new policy around Taiar. In every subforum, a new "sticky" topic will be posted with the name of that forum. Under that thread, any of those unique individual places (and people, cultures, details, and so forth belonging to those places) will be listed. That way, if you happen to be rping in Cheale, you can take a quick look in the thread to see what kinds of things already exist there, and use them (and their names, the people associated, etc) if you want.
These will be open threads. So if you throw in a new palace or theater or inn (or whatever! captain of the guard, stable, it doesn't matter) in Cheale, go ahead and post a reply to the sticky topic with a short description of whatever it is you're adding to the city. This applies to landscapes also - villages, roving marauder bands, pirate gangs - anything specific and important to a particular area. The admins (well, THIS admin anyways) will be reading the topics as they're modified, and if we find anything that's out of place, we'll notify the poster by pm to see if we can correct the issue.
I hope everyone participates as they create threads and adds to this construction of the multidimensional tapestry that is Taiar's background.

After some talk on the Admin Discussion board, and concern over the direction Taiar is headed with reference to the Supernatural, Carol was given the go-ahead to organize how this World—not only Taiar, but Darkmore and the adjacent lands as well—functions with regards to this subject.
The most powerful beings on Taiar able to be controlled by individual players are the Fifteen Gods [5 for each alignment]. As Godhood has been big in the announcements recently, I’ll assume you all know how one becomes a God and the roles they play in maintaining balance in Taiar. There are more powerful forces than the deities, however! They are known as the Four Winds, and are NOT sentient entities. Think of them rather like the four forces of physics, except in the supernatural field. The Winds are what cause the selection and enable the ascension of various mortals into Godhood. The Winds are often referenced, but are NEVER played by any character. Do NOT do this.
The Winds select the Gods to govern the two planes of Taiar [note: there are two, and only two planes]. One plane, ruled most absolutely by the Deity of Life, is the “living” plane. It is this plane on which all (or the vast majority) of the threads here at Taiar take place. This is the ordinary physical plane, populated by the characters you create. The second plane is ruled most absolutely by the Deity of Déath, and is the “dead” plane or the “soul” plane. The spirits and souls of the deâd who successfully depart—that is, are not chained as an early-raised undead or lingering soul or vengeful spirit—go to this plane, which is populated by them.
It is possible to move in an interplanar fashion, though rare. Powerful magicusers may successfully open portals from one to the other (I don’t think I need to stress the danger of this!). In addition, the Gods have the ability to freely move fr ...read more |
