Third one's a joke. Anyway, exactly what the poll says. Personally, I think they shouldn't, for reasons stated in the Plastic Hammer Awards.

I say yes. That way, you can induce the paranoia around certain people. Say I kill someone in self defense. odds are, people don't know that.

I just think it's better.

Personally, I say no. Why?

On a deeper level, SOTF v2 is a game of trust. It's a game where the line between friends and deadly enemies is not all that clear, and that there are those who may not appear who they are to be.

Having the killers unnannounced will make people start to guess: Who can they trust and who can't they? This in itself will create a paranoia in which there will be some people who start to think that EVERYBODY is a killer. EVERYBODY is deadly, and that there will be NOBODY that they can trust. If everybody knows who the killers are, at the very least they had a VERY good idea just who to avoid.

Then again, Dodd has his point at the paranoia and dramatic irony of the characters not knowing what the audience does.

While knowing who the killer is can lead to an interesting vengeance/avoidance angle for some players, I'm gonna have to say no. Although I wouldn't be opposed at all to listing the top 5 killers or whatever. You already do that though, right?

That's the great thing about having checkboxes instead of buttons. You really can't resist temptation.

The killers' names are already given on the SOTFwiki here, along with a running tally for individual persons. I think this alone would influence how the handler causes their player to act, if they've managed to read that wiki and if they haven't already read their death-specific forum threads.

It's confusing, I know.

No offense, but what does that have to do with the announcements?

Well it's funny you should mention it, Laz, because it seems everyone else has. You bastard, you.

I'm saying that people can essentially get the advance jump (per se) on the announcements (if they are made) to plot out what will happen to their character next... Of course whether they use it or not will make more of a spontaneous difference than that planned out.

I don't think the killers should be announced, because if a killer's announced everyone knows they're a killer, you'd get no situations like in the original BR with Yuichiro beleiving Mitsuko was innocent and then her betraying them.

Wait, I still don't understand what Lazardo is saying. Like, use the information on the wiki to influence your characters behavior? Isn't that information off-limits to kids on an island without computers? Or the internet for that matter? I'm s'confused.

Yeah, I think he misinterpreted the question. Of course the handlers would know who the killers were, but the question is if the characters should be told in the announcements.
