Survival of the Fittest > Announcements > A Solution to the Inactivity

Posted by: Kaishi May 16 2006, 10:50 PM
As mentioned in http://s10.invisionfree.com/SurvivalOfTheFittest/index.php?showtopic=844 thread, site inactivity is becoming a huge problem. We've got handlers that haven't come here in weeks, topics that have come to a halt, and more things that, at this point in time, shouldn't be happening. We've come this far and "this" close to V1 completion, so much so that we can't have Danya blow up the whole island just because of inactive players. What we need to do, to start making things snappy, is find a solution that works. As far as we know, things like inactivity sweeps aren't getting the job done. Inactive Person A, in most cases, would just post to make sure that Character A doesn't get killed off then go back into the shadows. I'm not pointing fingers, but since this has happened atleast once before, there's little doubt in my mind of something like that happening again with another sweep.

I've thought over this for a while, and came up with a fix. All the inactive players (the ones without messages posted in the "Away" topic) are now NPCs to be controlled by whomever is currently roleplaying with them. Move them along as far as you need to. Don't kill them off.

Since they're NPCs, that means that they're adoptable, aswell, by both new players and old ones that do not currently have a character. There will be a twenty four hour adopting window on an inactive character before the transaction is confirmed. If anyone else is wanting to claim that inactive character before the twenty four hours is up, then the two claimers will have to work it out, either by challenging eachother to a writing competition or any other way they can think of.

If there are enough people wanting to go with this idea, then I'll make the claiming topic. If there aren't, feel free to make suggestions to improve on this plan or suggest something else that'll be better for Survival of the Fittest. happy.gif

I love you, you wonderful girl! <3 I knew you'd come to save us from the evil inactivity bug.

Posted by: Theseus May 16 2006, 11:10 PM
I think this is an awesome idea and hopefully will solve the problem so we can get this show on the road! I'm all for it

Posted by: Queen Asshat May 16 2006, 11:11 PM
I'll start off by asking to adopt Peri Barclay.

Posted by: mitsuko2 May 16 2006, 11:18 PM
Where will the adoptions take place? I'll gladly take a charecter. biggrin.gif

I really have alot of free time. I'm on the site almost every day!

Could I have one of the charecters in the hospital? maybe clemance or Takara?

I fully Support you Man!

now that the real life shit has stopped hitting the Fan, I wonder who adoptable characters are

Posted by: Lien May 17 2006, 01:10 AM
Great idea, but I'll wait for the list before deciding which character I would like (if I would like one and if I don't get challenged and pwned).

Posted by: Kaishi May 17 2006, 02:52 AM
Good news. No more nasty Red Xs. I'll be sprucing up the forum later on, maybe tomorrow, so we can have cool gradients again. For now, though, we get the plain gray bars. happy.gif

I know im always defending peri but, yeah hes a buddy...

Thing is, his computer fucked up again and hes waiting to get it fixed, he did write avery long post for both dorian and peri but my internet turned itself off before he posted, and he well, you know how it is, can we give peri a couple days atleast? its likely he'll be round mine at some point in the next two days and i doubt he would let peri go like that, and if he stops posing again i could always bug the shit out of him.

Posted by: Swoosh May 17 2006, 12:59 PM
Oh Kai, I love you.

I might adopt someone when the list comes up, but in theory I've got Ryan Torres for now. But yay, this solves everything!

And Megami, now we can die happy XDD

Posted by: Megami May 17 2006, 03:18 PM
With all due respect, Bloody... he hasn't posted in a month. With either of his characters. Granted, people's computers mess up and whatnot, but we didn't even get an away message. Through all the personal stuff everyone on this site's undergone, for the most part, they've found the time to take ten seconds out of their day and say "Hey, I'm gonna be gone for a while." And I mean... he's done two posts with Peri in the past two months. Two. I'm not trying to start anything, but I, personally, don't really think it's fair if he's cut slack and allowed to keep his character when everyone else who's gone inactive isn't. If Kai made an exception for him, she'd sort of have to make it for everyone, don't you think?

Posted by: Bloody_Fists May 17 2006, 03:37 PM
Yeah i know exactly where your coming from, but im just sticking up for a friend here, ill do my best for him to post, but we go different colleges and he has work, dont worry ill make time for him to come over mine nd post, couple days all im asking if kai says no, then its peris problem, cant blame for sticking up for a friend?

Posted by: Slayer May 17 2006, 08:07 PM
No, but we can't cut him any slack just because he decides to blame it on a "computer" and hang around back. I agree with Kaishi's idea.

Posted by: Bloody_Fists May 17 2006, 09:10 PM
Ok, its not nice that no one is even considering it, come on were all friedns here, have a heart.

Posted by: Slayer May 17 2006, 10:23 PM
We had a heart for the first month, and he only posted once. Fuck having a heart, I say we focus on getting the game moving and ending the inactivity.

Posted by: Bloody_Fists May 17 2006, 10:58 PM
Oh how i hate you all.....

Posted by: Slayer May 18 2006, 01:19 AM
Tell someone who gives a shit and let's stop derailing the topic (unless we were on topic the whole time in which case the above statement is null and void pending I don't get a warning/ban *pleading look to mods and admins* for my response).

Posted by: d0ddi0slave May 18 2006, 06:01 AM
I'm all for it. And all for taking on more characters once I get back and running (if not just to give them nice gory deaths, but I digress).

And for any that are wondering, Sidney Crosby, Adam Dodd, and Kaige are all sort of in suspended animation until my blasted CPU gets back to my house...stupid Future Shop and their stupid three week minimum.

*sigh*

Your point is valid, as is Bloody_Fists, it would just be nice to... say it in a nicer manner. You kinda come on a bit aggressive, yo XD We're a peaceful forum!

As for Peri, I feel forced to agree. He's had a lot of time. I realise he may have had computer issues, but would it be so hard as to post an away message? I mean, for all we know, he could have just given up on us. It's not fair to those who are still playing, who have been playing throughout this inactivity, to give him yet another chance when he's been given one already.

I understand how you just want to help him out, but it's really not fair to everyone else to give him special treatment.

And I mean, it's been a couple of days since this announcement anyway... where is he?

Posted by: Megami May 18 2006, 08:17 PM
And you know, Bloody... nobody's saying we don't want him here. Quite the contrary, actually. You have to remember too that the V2 pre-game roleplay should be starting up pending four more deaths. Maybe by the time that rolls around he'll have his CPU back in working order. Nobody's saying they want Mismatched to leave forever or anything like that, we're just saying that he hasn't been around and we'd like to continue on with and end the game soon, which is something we can't do with all the inactives running around here. And yeah, I'm sure he's got stuff going on, everyone does. That's why we have 8-9 inactive characters. tongue.gif

But yeah man, seriously, it's nothing against Mismatched at all. We'd just like to finish the game s'all. It's been said before, but it IS coming up on a year, after all. I respect you trying to defend your friend and trying to keep his character around for him, it's admirable. Despite that, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, ya know? We've got a whole bunch of newcomers waiting to play and old members who've lost their characters and they're just stuck sitting out there in cyberspace until things kick into gear, and holding things up for one person isn't really fair to all those people, now is it?

Anyway, it just sort of seems like we're jumping down your throat about it, but it's not like that. I totally see where you're coming from. But you have to think of it like... if we give him yet another chance, and then someone else comes along with a similar situation and asks for extended time, Kai'd pretty much be forced to give it to them as well, because it wouldn't be fair to grant it to one person and not the other, you know? But yeah... I don't want you to think anybody's trying to shoot the messenger or anything, I know where you're coming from, I'm simply looking at the best interests of the forum. Seems sort of silly to hault the entire game for one person, don't you agree? And in essence, that's what we'd be doing, because we can't progress through and finish the game with inactive characters keeping other people tied up.

Posted by: Kaishi May 18 2006, 09:58 PM
Okay, first of all, Slayer, you're way out of line. With what you've said, you've added nothing at all to the topic except for flaming. Bloody_Fists hasn't taken the thread off topic at all and, if you have to worry about getting a warning/ban with a post, then don't do it at all. You're not a moderator or an Admin for that matter, so what was the point in writing what you did? "Tell someone who gives a shit?" Right. You forgot that I always do, no matter who the member(s) involved is/are. For this reason, I'm giving you a formal warning.

Did some of you guys not see what was written in my first post? All inactives, right now, are NPCs. If you're worried, atm, about someone holding up a topic, then don't be. Control the NPCs, make them move, whatever. Don't kill them or do anything drastic, such as moving them across the island for no apparent reason other than to get rid of them. After the claiming-the-inactives topic shows up, there's a twenty four hour confirmation period before the character claimed is yours. If Peri is able to post during or before that, then that's alright. His character is all his. Elsewise, he's given up to whomever wants him. I'm sorry. I wish I could have it any other way, but I can't. Everyone gets a fair chance.

Besides, I saw him online a few days ago. What kept him from posting then? Even the simplest "my computer is still messed up" would be fine. Not trying to jump all over anyone, I'm just saying. ...Do get him to post ASAP if you can, Bloody_Fists. There's nothing wrong with sticking up for a friend at all, so don't worry about it. I agree completely with what Megami posted latest. It's all true~.

If the topic isn't posted tonight (I'd post it now-ish but I've got an instrumental lesson to go to) then it will be tomorrow. That should give anyone worrying over their inactive characters a little more time.

Posted by: Bloody_Fists May 19 2006, 02:14 PM
Peri was online, when he was writing the death post for dorian graywood and a post for peri but as he was typing it out my internet turned itself off and it got lost, and he needed to go then so. And yeah, i doubt ill get him to post now, ill see him tonight but we wont have a computer handy. just saying thanks for understanding but really i couldent care less now. My last request is that peri goes to someone known for there writing skills, i think the character deserves it seeing as how far he's come, i dont want to see him go to waste.

Posted by: d0ddi0slave May 19 2006, 03:46 PM
Far be it for me to get presumptuous but when my computer gets back up and running, I'd gladly take 'im on. Granted, I have the maximum three characters, but that could be solved. wink.gif

And I know there're others who want characters, so...wink.gif Can't get greedy now.

Posted by: Bloody_Fists May 19 2006, 04:21 PM
Lol, i was hoping you'd ask for him dodd, just need to wait and see now.

Posted by: Kuze May 19 2006, 08:09 PM
Well Scince I doubt some people would object to Slacker's adoption of Peri so I'd would also like to adopt Peri

I didn't understand what you meant when you were referring to Slacker, Kuze.

And yeah, Kai's dealing with this a lot better than me so... *whistles*

You can't have clemence... how am i supposed to be held accountable for the inactivity in that thread since i was the last person to post there. Sheesh.

Are you honestly saying that, this whole time, something has stopped you from doing a double post and moving Clemence on?

Posted by: MooCow May 19 2006, 09:59 PM
Nope i could have done that i suppose your right. I'm sorry if you're all pissed at me. I honestly didn't think about that but i have been checking the forum every couple days to see if someone would post in the thread...

Posted by: Swoosh May 19 2006, 10:01 PM
Well, from what Kai has said, I assume you can re-claim Clemence...

Posted by: Megami May 19 2006, 10:04 PM
As long as he posts before the adoption topic is made... that was my understanding, anyway. Nobody's mad at you, we're just all frustrated with the fact that we have 10 inactive characters, but I know you're stuck in a tough spot because it's really hard to up and write your character out of the middle of a fight scene. Even still...

Posted by: Queen Asshat May 19 2006, 10:33 PM
Damn you Dodd! I was going to talk to you so we can plan out Peri's death! How the fuck can I compete with Adam fucking Dodd for adopting a character! He's like the Chuck Noriss of character...users?

Posted by: Megami May 19 2006, 10:43 PM
Well, considering Kaishi mentioned something about members that don't currently have any characters, you might still have a chance.

Posted by: Sephy May 19 2006, 11:02 PM
Don't want anyone to bite my head off but I have a suggestion: Maybe if people actually posted and did something with thier characters instead of just whining about the decision being unfair or whatever it might do some good ^^;

Posted by: mitsuko2 May 20 2006, 02:06 AM
Sorry Moocow, but Cleamence IS a very awesome charecter.

Posted by: Kaishi May 20 2006, 02:14 AM
Dodd can't have Peri Barclay. I thought I had written this in the first post, but I guess I'll have to bring it up again.

And, by the way, MooCow's in the right. Clemence isn't an inactive character, since she was the one who posted last. It's asano and kuro whom are holding up the topic, not Clemence. Don't worry about it, Moo'.

Once I switch to my laptop and do a little research, I'll make the topic. Please don't claim prematurely in this thread -- no claims stated here, if any, count. smile.gif

EDIT:
I'm not feeling too good about all of this overall, so I'm just going to close the thread since I got what I wanted from you all.

Closed.
