As reported by Wikipedia and Ain't It Cool News, the remake rights for Battle Royale have been bought by New Line Cinemas. It is slated for a 2008 release and is being produced by Neil Moritz and Roy Lee, producers of such movies as.. Gridiron Gang, xXx, the Fast and the Furious trilogy (Neil Moritz), The Ring remakes, and the Grudge remakes (Roy Lee, who is also producing an Oldboy remake). If you have IMDBpro (i have no idea why anyone would pay $100 a year for this site), you can view its IMDB page for more information.

As quoted by Ain't It Cool News "..a project that could either be utterly fantastic or a steaming pile of shit." And apparently the "tragically hip producer" Neil Moritz will ultimately drive this project into the ground. I don't know much about producers, but after finding out about the movies these producers had previously made, i can't say my hopes are too high.

However, i can't say that i'm not curious how this is going to turn out. I always wondered what an American version of this movie would be.

Any thoughts?

(and if this info has been posted before.. my bad..)

No, that one discussed a hypothetical one, this is the actual one. I don't know, news pertaining to BR tends to be very biased, though supposedly the concept will remain the same and will incorporate elements from the original novel (the producers are fans), so I might keep an eye on it.

Somewhere someone found an article awhile back, so actually we have talked about it. I just posted the wrong link... I tried to search for it too early in the morn'.

They're probably gonna do what they do to get child porn into the US, say the Child is an 18 year old midget at the very least.

It could be 'okay,' and I use the term loosely, but it really depends on who's making it. The producers aren't the important thing(sort of) . It's what director they attach to it. Still based on speculation, it's probably not gonna turn out that great, but I'll still watch it.
