If you want a...

Easy Game: choose Bulbasaur.

Medium Difficulty Game: choose Squirtle.

Hard Game: choose Charmander.

all of them are easy to train

Charmander = Suicune

Squirtle = Raikou

Bulbasaur = Entei

Your starter pokemon affects what legendary dog you get to catch (unless you use glitches angry.gif , but of course thats cheating)

But

Charmander OWNS! and fire pokemon are awesome. and charmanders family look cool!

Go Charmander!

well you can think gym wise
the first gyms are
rock
water
electric
grass

therefore the ideal choice would be bulbasaur
squirtle works up to lt surge
charmander a joke for the beginning

but futher into the game

poison
psychic
fire
ground

bulbasaur is uneffective agains poison
weak to psychic and fire
it has only got a slight advantage over giovanni
squirtle becomes quite useful
charmander is still disadvantaged

in the elite four

ice
fighting
ghost
dragon

bulbasaur is weak to ice
no apparent advantage over bruno note after you get the two gems in the sevii islands his onixes evolve to steelixes and become immune to poison
most of agatha's pokemon will hold advantage over bulbasuar (eg crobat-flying poison, gengar with psychic)
most of lances pokemon with ice beam
squirtle is slightly useful with resistance to and ability to use ice moves
charmander is immensely useful at this stage because
ice is weak to fire
flying types will literally murder fighting
and charizard can learn dragon moves to kill off lance's pokemon

That's sorta what I said. But anyway I always choose Charmander. It's hard in the beginning but at the Elite 4 I win fast. =D

thats wat you said
which isn't true
at viridian you can catch nidorans which, with doulbe kick, wins easy against brock
never mind about themankeys
cerulean city is full or grass type pokemon
if you didn't catch a geodude in mt moon your stupid and theres always diglet cave to stock up ground types for lt surge
you must have caught a pidgey which can easily deal with erika
one butterfree or haunter can last through your battle with koga
ghost works with sabrina as well
cinnebar is surrounded by sea
giovanni- you faced him before, not hard to beat him again
pkmn mansion in cinnebar loads you with fire types and if you go to the fighting dojo, one of the two hitmons will do
bruno- flying and water will do
agatha- any psychic can do it
lance-seafoam island-need i say more?

STARTER POKEMON? NOT NECESSARY

no its what i do too since i have yellow
so pikachu by himself can't alway deal with misty and hardly damages brock
so i train up things to deal with the gym leaders instead of just using starter pokemon
